1'Mina olen tõeline viinapuu ja mu Isa on aednik.
1I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2Iga oksa minu küljes, mis ei kanna vilja, lõikab ta ära, ja igaühte, mis kannab vilja, ta puhastab, et see kannaks rohkem vilja.
2[As to] every branch in me not bearing fruit, he takes it away; and [as to] every one bearing fruit, he purges it that it may bring forth more fruit.

3Ye are already clean by reason of the word which I have spoken to you.
4Jääge minusse, ja mina jään teisse. Nii nagu oks ei suuda kanda vilja omaette, kui ta ei jää viinapuu külge, nõnda ka teie, kui te ei jää minu külge.
4Abide in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abide in the vine, thus neither [can] ye unless ye abide in me.
5Mina olen viinapuu, teie olete oksad. Kes jääb minusse ja mina temasse, see kannab palju vilja, sest minust lahus ei suuda te midagi teha.
5I am the vine, ye [are] the branches. He that abides in me and I in him, *he* bears much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.
6Kes ei jää minu külge, heidetakse välja nagu oks, ja ta kuivab. Ja nad kogutakse kokku ja visatakse tulle ja nad põlevad ära.
6Unless any one abide in me he is cast out as the branch, and is dried up; and they gather them and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7Kui te jääte minusse ja minu sõnad jäävad teisse, siis paluge, mida te iganes tahate, ning see sünnib teile.
7If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall come to pass to you.
8Selles on minu Isa kirgastatud, et te kannate palju vilja ja saate minu jüngriteks.
8In this is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit, and ye shall become disciples of mine.
9Nõnda nagu Isa on armastanud mind, olen minagi armastanud teid. Jääge minu armastusse!
9As the Father has loved me, I also have loved you: abide in my love.
10Kui teie peate minu käske, siis te jääte minu armastusse, nõnda nagu mina olen pidanud oma Isa käske ja jään tema armastusse.
10If ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.
11Seda ma olen teile rääkinud, et minu rõõm oleks teis ja teie rõõm saaks täielikuks.
11I have spoken these things to you that my joy may be in you, and your joy be full.
12Minu käsk on see: armastage üksteist, nagu mina olen armastanud teid!
12This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13Ei ole olemas suuremat armastust kui see, et keegi annab elu oma sõprade eest.
13No one has greater love than this, that one should lay down his life for his friends.
14Teie olete mu sõbrad, kui te teete, mida ma teid käsin.
14Ye are my friends if ye practise whatever I command you.
15Ma ei nimeta teid enam orjadeks, sest ori ei tea, mida ta isand teeb. Teid olen ma nimetanud sõpradeks, sest teile olen ma andnud teada kõik, mida ma olen kuulnud oma Isalt.
15I call you no longer bondmen, for the bondman does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things which I have heard of my Father I have made known to you.
16Teie ei ole valinud mind, vaid mina olen valinud teid ja olen seadnud teid, et te läheksite ja kannaksite vilja ja et teie vili jääks. Mida te iganes Isalt palute, seda ta annab teile minu nimel.
16Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and have set you that ye should go and [that] ye should bear fruit, and [that] your fruit should abide, that whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name he may give you.
17Selle käsu annan ma teile: armastage üksteist!
17These things I command you, that ye love one another.
18Kui maailm teid vihkab, siis teadke, et ta on mind vihanud enne teid.
18If the world hate you, know that it has hated me before you.
19Kui te oleksite maailmast, siis maailm armastaks teid kui omi, aga et teie ei ole maailmast, vaid mina olen teid maailmast ära valinud, seepärast maailm vihkab teid.
19If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on account of this the world hates you.
20Pidage meeles sõna, mis mina teile olen öelnud: 'Ei ole teener suurem kui ta isand!' Kui nad on taga kiusanud mind, kiusavad nad taga teidki. Kui nad on pidanud minu sõna, peavad nad teiegi sõna.
20Remember the word which I said unto you, The bondman is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my word, they will keep also yours.
21Kuid seda kõike nad teevad teile minu nime pärast, sest nad ei tunne teda, kes minu on saatnud.
21But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they have not known him that sent me.
22Kui ma ei oleks tulnud ja neile rääkinud, ei oleks neil pattu, aga nüüd ei saa nad vabandada oma pattu.
22If I had not come and spoken to them, they had not had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.
23Kes vihkab mind, see vihkab ka mu Isa.
23He that hates me hates also my Father.
24Kui ma ei oleks nende keskel teinud tegusid, mida ei ole teinud ükski teine, siis ei oleks neil pattu, aga nüüd nad on küll näinud, ent ometi vihanud nii mind kui ka minu Isa.
24If I had not done among them the works which no other one has done, they had not had sin; but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25Kuid see on sündinud, et läheks täide nende Seadusesse kirjutatud sõna: 'Nad on mind vihanud põhjuseta.'
25But that the word written in their law might be fulfilled, They hated me without a cause.
26Kui tuleb Lohutaja, kelle ma teile Isa juurest saadan, Tõe Vaim, kes lähtub Isast, siis tema tunnistab minust.
26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes forth from with the Father, *he* shall bear witness concerning me;
27Ja teiegi tunnistate, sest te olete olnud minuga algusest peale.
27and ye too bear witness, because ye are with me from [the] beginning.
