¹Pärast seda oli juutide püha ja Jeesus läks üles Jeruusalemma.

¹After these things was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

²Aga Jeruusalemmas on Lambavärava juures tiik, mida heebrea keeles hüütakse Betsata; sellel on viis sammaskäiku.

²Now there is in Jerusalem, at the sheepgate, a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.

³Siin lamas suur hulk haigeid, pimedaid, jalutuid, halvatuid [kes ootasid vee liikumist,

³In these lay a multitude of sick, blind, lame, withered, [awaiting the moving of the water.

⁴For an angel descended at a certain season in the pool and troubled the water. Whoever therefore first went in after the troubling of the water became well, whatever disease he laboured under.]

⁵Aga seal oli inimene, kes oli olnud haige kolmkümmend kaheksa aastat.

⁵But there was a certain man there who had been suffering under his infirmity thirty and eight years.

⁶Kui Jeesus nägi teda seal lamamas ja sai teada, et ta on juba nii kaua aega haige, küsis ta temalt: 'Kas sa tahad terveks saada?'

⁶Jesus seeing this [man] lying [there], and knowing that he was [in that state] now a great length of time, says to him, Wouldest thou become well?

⁷Haige vastas talle: 'Isand, mul ei ole kedagi, kes mind aitaks tiiki, kui vesi hakkab liikuma. Sellal kui mina olen alles teel, astub mõni teine sisse enne mind.'

⁷The infirm [man] answered him, Sir, I have not a man, in order, when the water has been troubled, to cast me into the pool; but while I am coming another descends before me.

⁸Jeesus ütles talle: 'Tõuse üles, võta oma kanderaam ja kõnni!'

⁸Jesus says to him, Arise, take up thy couch and walk.

⁹Ja inimene sai otsekohe terveks, võttis oma kanderaami ja kõndis. Kuid see päev oli hingamispäev.

⁹And immediately the man became well, and took up his couch and walked: and on that day was sabbath.

¹⁰Siis ütlesid juudid tervenenule: 'Nüüd on hingamispäev ja seepärast sa ei tohi kanderaami kanda.'

¹⁰The Jews therefore said to the healed [man], It is sabbath, it is not permitted thee to take up thy couch.

¹¹Tema aga vastas neile: 'See, kes mu terveks tegi, ütles mulle: Võta oma kanderaam ja kõnni!'

¹¹He answered them, He that made me well, *he* said to me, Take up thy couch and walk.

¹²Nad küsisid temalt: 'Kes on see inimene, kes sulle ütles: Võta oma kanderaam ja kõnni!?'

¹²They asked him [therefore], Who is the man who said to thee, Take up thy couch and walk?

¹³Aga tervenenu ei teadnud, kes see oli, sest Jeesus oli läinud kõrvale seal paigas oleva rahva hulka.

¹³But he that had been healed knew not who it was, for Jesus had slidden away, there being a crowd in the place.

¹⁴Pärastpoole leidis Jeesus tema pühakojast ja ütles talle: 'Vaata, sa oled saanud terveks. Ära tee enam pattu, et sinuga ei juhtuks midagi halvemat!'

¹⁴After these things Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art become well: sin no more, that something worse do not happen to thee.

¹⁵Inimene läks ja ütles juutidele, et see oli Jeesus, kes ta terveks tegi.

¹⁵The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁶Seepärast hakkasidki juudid Jeesust varitsema, et ta oli seda teinud hingamispäeval.

¹⁶And for this the Jews persecuted Jesus [and sought to kill him], because he had done these things on sabbath.

¹⁷Aga Jeesus kostis neile: 'Minu Isa tegutseb tänini ja ka mina tegutsen.'

¹⁷But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto and I work.

¹⁸Siis otsisid juudid veel enam võimalust teda tappa, sellepärast et ta oli lisaks hingamispäeva rikkumisele nimetanud Jumala oma Isa olevat, tehes ennast Jumalaga võrdseks.

¹⁸For this therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he had not only violated the sabbath, but also said that God was his own Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁹Siis Jeesus vastas neile: 'Tõesti, tõesti, ma ütlen teile, Poeg ei saa midagi teha iseenesest, ta teeb vaid seda, mida näeb tegevat Isa, sest mida iganes Isa teeb, seda teeb ka Poeg.

¹⁹Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing of himself save whatever he sees the Father doing: for whatever things *he* does, these things also the Son does in like manner.

²⁰Isa armastab ju Poega ning näitab talle kõike, mida ta ise teeb, ning tahab temale näidata suuremaid tegusid, kui need on, nõnda et te seda panete imeks.

²⁰For the Father loves the Son and shews him all things which he himself does; and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may wonder.

²¹Sest nõnda nagu Isa äratab üles surnuid ja teeb elavaks, nõnda teeb ka Poeg elavaks, keda tahab.

²¹For even as the Father raises the dead and quickens [them], thus the Son also quickens whom he will:

²²Ja tõepoolest: Isa ei mõista kellegi üle kohut, vaid on andnud kohtumõistmise täiesti Poja kätte,

²²for neither does the Father judge any one, but has given all judgment to the Son;

²³et kõik austaksid Poega, nõnda nagu nad austavad Isa. Kes ei austa Poega, see ei austa ka Isa, kes on tema läkitanud.

²³that all may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He who honours not the Son, honours not the Father who has sent him.

²⁴Tõesti, tõesti, ma ütlen teile, kes kuuleb minu sõna ja usub teda, kes minu on saatnud, sellel on igavene elu, ning ta ei lähe kohtu alla, vaid on läinud surmast ellu.

²⁴Verily, verily, I say unto you, that he that hears my word, and believes him that has sent me, has life eternal, and does not come into judgment, but is passed out of death into life.

²⁵Tõesti, tõesti, ma ütlen teile, tund tuleb, ja see ongi juba käes, mil surnud peavad kuulma Jumala Poja häält, ning kes seda kuulevad, peavad elama.

²⁵Verily, verily, I say unto you, that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that have heard shall live.

²⁶Sest otsekui Isal on elu iseendas, nõnda on ta andnud ka Pojale, et elu on temas endas,

²⁶For even as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son also to have life in himself,

²⁷ja ta on temale andnud meelevalla ka kohut pidada, sellepärast et tema on Inimese Poeg.

²⁷and has given him authority to execute judgment [also], because he is Son of man.

²⁸Ärge pange seda imeks; sest tuleb tund, mil kõik, kes on haudades, kuulevad tema häält

²⁸Wonder not at this, for an hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs shall hear his voice,

²⁹ning tulevad välja: need, kes on teinud head, elu ülestõusmiseks, aga need, kes on teinud halba, hukkamõistmise ülestõusmiseks.

²⁹and shall go forth; those that have practised good, to resurrection of life, and those that have done evil, to resurrection of judgment.

³⁰Mina ei saa iseenesest teha midagi. Ma mõistan kohut nõnda, nagu ma kuulen, ja minu otsus on õiglane, sest ma ei otsi oma tahtmist, vaid tema tahtmist, kes minu on saatnud.

³⁰I cannot do anything of myself; as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my will, but the will of him that has sent me.

³¹Kui ma tunnistaksin iseenese kohta, ei oleks mu tunnistus kehtiv.

³¹If I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is not true.

³²See, kes minu kohta tunnistab, on keegi teine, ja ma tean: see tunnistus, mida tema minu kohta tunnistab, on kehtiv.

³²It is another who bears witness concerning me, and I know that the witness which he bears concerning me is true.

³³Teie olete läkitanud saadikuid Johannese juurde, ja tema on tunnistanud tõtt.

³³Ye have sent unto John, and he has borne witness to the truth.

³⁴Aga mina ei vaja mingit inimese tunnistust, vaid räägin seda selleks, et teie võiksite pääseda.

³⁴But I do not receive witness from man, but I say this that *ye* might be saved.

³⁵Johannes oli lamp, mis põles ja paistis, teie aga tahtsite üürikest aega ilutseda tema valguses.

³⁵*He* was the burning and shining lamp, and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

³⁶Aga minul on suurem tunnistus kui Johannese oma: teod, mis Isa mulle on andnud täide viia, needsamad teod, mida ma teen, tunnistavadki minust, et Isa on minu läkitanud.

³⁶But I have the witness [that is] greater than [that] of John; for the works which the Father has given me that I should complete them, the works themselves which I do, bear witness concerning me that the Father has sent me.

³⁷Ja Isa, kes minu on saatnud, tema ise tunnistab minu kohta. Teie ei ole iialgi kuulnud tema häält ega näinud tema nägu

³⁷And the Father who has sent me himself has borne witness concerning me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor have seen his shape,

³⁸ega püsi tema sõna teis, sest te ei usu teda, kelle tema on läkitanud.

³⁸and ye have not his word abiding in you; for whom *he* hath sent, him ye do not believe.

³⁹Te uurite pühi kirju, sest te arvate nendest saavat igavese elu - ja just need on, mis tunnistavad minust.

³⁹Ye search the scriptures, for ye think that in them ye have life eternal, and they it is which bear witness concerning me;

⁴⁰Aga te ei taha tulla minu juurde, et saada elu.

⁴⁰and ye will not come to me that ye might have life.

⁴¹Mina ei vaja austust inimestelt,

⁴¹I do not receive glory from men,

⁴²kuid ma tunnen teid: teie sees ei ole armastust Jumala vastu.

⁴²but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

⁴³Mina olen tulnud oma Isa nimel, ja ometi ei võta te mind vastu. Kui mõni teine tuleb iseenese nimel, siis tolle te võtate vastu.

⁴³I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not; if another come in his own name, him ye will receive.

⁴⁴Kuidas te võite uskuda, kui te ootate austust üksteiselt ega otsi seda austust, mis tuleb üksnes Jumalalt?

⁴⁴How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and seek not the glory which [comes] from God alone?

⁴⁵Ometi ärge arvake, et mina hakkan teid Isa ees süüdistama. See, kes teid süüdistab, on hoopis Mooses, kelle peale te oma lootuse olete pannud,

⁴⁵Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is [one] who accuses you, Moses, on whom ye trust;

⁴⁶sest kui te usuksite Moosest, siis te usuksite ka mind, sest tema on kirjutanud minust.

⁴⁶for if ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed me, for he wrote of me.

⁴⁷Aga kui te isegi tema kirju ei usu, kuidas te siis saate uskuda minu sõnu?'

⁴⁷But if ye do not believe his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
