¹Aga Jeesus läks Õlimäele.

¹But Jesus went to the mount of Olives.

²Kuid koidu ajal tuli ta tagasi pühakotta ning kogu rahvas tuli tema juurde ning ta istus ja õpetas neid.

²And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him; and he sat down and taught them.

³Aga kirjatundjad ja variserid tõid abielurikkumiselt tabatud naise, panid ta keskele seisma

³And the scribes and the Pharisees bring [to him] a woman taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,

⁴ja ütlesid Jeesusele: 'Õpetaja, see naine tabati abielurikkumiselt.

⁴they say to him, Teacher, this woman has been taken in the very act, committing adultery.

⁵Mooses on Seaduses käskinud niisugused kividega surnuks visata. Mida nüüd sina ütled?'

⁵Now in the law Moses has commanded us to stone such; thou therefore, what sayest thou?

⁶Aga seda nad ütlesid teda proovile pannes, et nad saaksid teda süüdistada. Jeesus kummardus ja kirjutas sõrmega maa peale.

⁶But this they said proving him, that they might have [something] to accuse him [of]. But Jesus, having stooped down, wrote with his finger on the ground.

⁷Aga kui nad küsides peale käisid, ajas Jeesus enese sirgu ja ütles neile: 'Kes teie seast ei ole pattu teinud, visaku teda esimesena kiviga!'

⁷But when they continued asking him, he lifted himself up and said to them, Let him that is without sin among you first cast the stone at her.

⁸Ja ta kummardus jälle ja kirjutas maa peale.

⁸And again stooping down he wrote on the ground.

⁹Ja seda kuuldes lahkusid nad üksteise järel, vanematest alates, jäid üksnes tema ja keskel seisev naine.

⁹But they, having heard [that], went out one by one beginning from the elder ones until the last; and Jesus was left alone and the woman standing there.

¹⁰Jeesus ajas enese sirgu ja ütles talle: 'Naine, kus nad on? Kas keegi ei ole sind surma mõistnud?'

¹⁰And Jesus, lifting himself up and seeing no one but the woman, said to her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Has no one condemned thee?

¹¹Tema ütles: 'Ei keegi, Issand!' Aga Jeesus ütles: 'Ega minagi mõista sind surma. Mine, ja nüüdsest peale ära enam tee pattu!']

¹¹And she said, No one, sir. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

¹²Siis Jeesus rääkis neile taas: 'Mina olen maailma valgus. Kes järgneb mulle, ei käi pimeduses, vaid tal on elu valgus.'

¹²Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹³Siis ütlesid variserid talle: 'Sina tunnistad iseenese kohta, sinu tunnistus ei ole õige.'

¹³The Pharisees therefore said to him, Thou bearest witness concerning thyself; thy witness is not true.

¹⁴Jeesus kostis: 'Isegi kui ma enese kohta tunnistan, on minu tunnistus õige, sest ma tean, kust ma olen tulnud ja kuhu ma lähen. Aga teie ei tea, kust ma olen tulnud ja kuhu ma lähen.

¹⁴Jesus answered and said to them, Even if I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is true, because I know whence I came and whither I go: but ye know not whence I come and whither I go.

¹⁵Teie mõistate kohut maailma kombel, mina ei mõista kohut kellegi üle.

¹⁵Ye judge according to the flesh, I judge no one.

¹⁶Aga kui ma mõistangi kohut, siis on minu otsus õige, sest mina ei ole üksi, vaid minuga on Isa, kes minu on saatnud.

¹⁶And if also I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who has sent me.

¹⁷Ja peale selle on ka teie Seadusesse kirjutatud, et kahe inimese tunnistus on õige.

¹⁷And in your law too it is written that the testimony of two men is true:

¹⁸Mina ise olen tunnistajaks enese kohta ning minu kohta tunnistab Isa, kes minu on saatnud.'

¹⁸I am [one] who bear witness concerning myself, and the Father who has sent me bears witness concerning me.

¹⁹Siis nad ütlesid talle: 'Kus on sinu Isa?' Jeesus vastas: 'Teie ei tunne mind ega minu Isa. Kui te tunneksite mind, tunneksite te ka mu Isa.'

¹⁹They said to him therefore, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me nor my Father. If ye had known me, ye would have known also my Father.

²⁰Neid sõnu rääkis Jeesus pühakojas aardekirstu juures õpetades, ja ükski ei vahistanud teda, sest tema tund ei olnud veel tulnud.

²⁰These words spoke he in the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no one took him, for his hour was not yet come.

²¹Siis ütles Jeesus neile taas: 'Mina lähen ära ja te otsite mind, ja te surete oma pattudesse. Kuhu mina lähen, sinna ei saa teie tulla.'

²¹He said therefore again to them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin; where I go ye cannot come.

²²Nüüd ütlesid juudid: 'Kas ta ehk kavatseb ennast tappa, et ta ütleb: Kuhu mina lähen, sinna ei saa teie tulla?'

²²The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he says, Where I go ye cannot come?

²³Ja Jeesus ütles neile: 'Teie olete alt, mina ülalt. Teie olete sellest maailmast, mina ei ole sellest maailmast.

²³And he said to them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above. Ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴Ma just ütlesin teile, et te surete oma pattudesse; sest kui te ei usu, et mina olen see, siis te surete oma pattudesse.'

²⁴I said therefore to you, that ye shall die in your sins; for unless ye shall believe that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.

²⁵Nüüd nad küsisid temalt: 'Kes sa siis oled?' Jeesus ütles neile: 'Mis ma üldse teiega räägin?

²⁵They said therefore to him, Who art thou? [And] Jesus said to them, Altogether that which I also say to you.

²⁶Mul on palju rääkida teie kohta, ka kohut mõista. Kuid tema, kes minu on saatnud, on tõene, ja mina räägin maailmale vaid seda, mida ma temalt olen kuulnud.'

²⁶I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but he that has sent me is true, and I, what I have heard from him, these things I say to the world.

²⁷Nad ei saanud aru, et ta rääkis neile Isast.

²⁷They knew not that he spoke to them of the Father.

²⁸Siis ütles Jeesus: 'Kui te Inimese Poja olete ülendanud, siis te mõistate, et mina olen see ja et ma ei tee midagi iseenesest, vaid räägin nõnda, nagu Isa mind on õpetanud.

²⁸Jesus therefore said to them, When ye shall have lifted up the Son of man, then ye shall know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself, but as the Father has taught me I speak these things.

²⁹Ja minuga on tema, kes minu on saatnud, ta ei ole jätnud mind üksi, kuna ma teen alati seda, mis talle meeldib.'

²⁹And he that has sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, because I do always the things that are pleasing to him.

³⁰Kui ta seda rääkis, hakkasid temasse uskuma paljud.

³⁰As he spoke these things many believed on him.

³¹Siis ütles Jeesus juutidele, kes temasse uskusid: 'Kui te jääte minu sõnasse, siis te olete tõesti minu jüngrid

³¹Jesus therefore said to the Jews who believed him, If ye abide in my word, ye are truly my disciples;

³²ning tunnetate tõde, ja tõde vabastab teid.'

³²and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.

³³Nad vastasid talle: 'Me oleme Aabrahami järglased ega ole iial kedagi orjanud, kuidas sina siis ütled: Te saate vabaks?'

³³They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and have never been under bondage to any one; how sayest thou, Ye shall become free?

³⁴Jeesus vastas neile: 'Tõesti, tõesti, ma ütlen teile, igaüks, kes teeb pattu, on patu ori.

³⁴Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Every one that practises sin is the bondman of sin.

³⁵Ori ei jää majja alatiseks, poeg jääb alatiseks.

³⁵Now the bondman abides not in the house for ever: the son abides for ever.

³⁶Kui nüüd Poeg teid vabastab, siis olete tõepoolest vabad.

³⁶If therefore the Son shall set you free, ye shall be really free.

³⁷Ma tean, et te olete Aabrahami järglased, kuid te otsite võimalust mind tappa, sest minu sõna ei mahu teisse.

³⁷I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word has no entrance in you.

³⁸Mina räägin, mida ma olen näinud oma Isa juures, ja teie teete, mida te olete kuulnud oma isalt.'

³⁸I speak what I have seen with my Father, and ye then do what ye have seen with your father.

³⁹Nad kostsid: 'Meie isa on Aabraham.' Jeesus ütles neile: 'Kui te oleksite Aabrahami lapsed, siis te teeksite Aabrahami tegusid.

³⁹They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus says to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham;

⁴⁰Aga nüüd te otsite võimalust tappa mind - inimest, kes ma olen teile rääkinud tõtt, mida ma Jumala juures olen kuulnud. Seda ei ole Aabraham teinud.

⁴⁰but now ye seek to kill me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, which I have heard from God: this did not Abraham.

⁴¹Teie teete oma isa tegusid.' Nad ütlesid talle: 'Meie ei ole sündinud liiderdamisest, meil on üks isa - Jumal.'

⁴¹Ye do the works of your father. They said [therefore] to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one father, God.

⁴²Jeesus ütles neile: 'Kui Jumal oleks teie Isa, siis te armastaksite mind, sest mina olen pärit Jumalast ja tulnud siia. Mina ei ole ju tulnud omapäi, vaid tema on minu läkitanud.

⁴²Jesus said to them, If God were your father ye would have loved me, for I came forth from God and am come [from him]; for neither am I come of myself, but *he* has sent me.

⁴³Miks te ei mõista mu kõnet? Seepärast, et teie ei suuda kuulata minu sõna.

⁴³Why do ye not know my speech? Because ye cannot hear my word.

⁴⁴Teie olete oma isast kuradist ning tahate teha oma isa himude järgi. Tema on mõrtsukas algusest peale, ta ei püsinud tões, sest temas ei ole tõde. Kui ta räägib valet, siis ta räägib enda oma, sest ta on valetaja ja vale isa.

⁴⁴Ye are of the devil, as [your] father, and ye desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks falsehood, he speaks of what is his own; for he is a liar and its father:

⁴⁵Aga et mina kõnelen tõtt, siis te ei usu mind.

⁴⁵and because I speak the truth, ye do not believe me.

⁴⁶Kes teist saab tõestada mul ühegi patu olevat? Kui ma räägin tõtt, miks te siis ei usu mind?

⁴⁶Which of you convinces me of sin? If I speak truth, why do ye not believe me?

⁴⁷Kes on Jumalast, see kuuleb Jumala sõnu. Teie ei kuule selle pärast, et teie ei ole Jumalast.'

⁴⁷He that is of God hears the words of God: therefore ye hear [them] not, because ye are not of God.

⁴⁸Juudid kostsid talle: 'Eks meil ole õigus, kui me ütleme, et sina oled samaarlane ja et sinus on kuri vaim?'

⁴⁸The Jews answered and said to him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a demon?

⁴⁹Jeesus vastas: 'Minus ei ole kuri vaim, vaid ma austan oma Isa, teie aga teotate mind.

⁴⁹Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me.

⁵⁰Aga mina ei taotle tunnustust iseendale. On üks, kes on uurija ja kohtunik.

⁵⁰But I do not seek my own glory: there is he that seeks and judges.

⁵¹Tõesti, tõesti, ma ütlen teile, kui keegi paneb tallele mu sõnad, siis ta ei näe surma iialgi!'

⁵¹Verily, verily, I say unto you, If any one shall keep my word, he shall never see death.

⁵²Juudid ütlesid talle: 'Nüüd on selge, et sinus on kuri vaim. Aabraham on surnud ja prohvetid on surnud, ent sina ütled: Kui keegi paneb tallele mu sõnad, siis ta ei maitse surma iialgi.

⁵²The Jews therefore said to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham has died, and the prophets, and thou sayest, If any one keep my word, he shall never taste death.

⁵³Kas sina oled suurem kui meie isa Aabraham, kes on surnud? Ja prohvetid on samuti surnud. Kelleks sina ennast pead?'

⁵³Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who has died? and the prophets have died: whom makest thou thyself?

⁵⁴Jeesus vastas: 'Kui ma ülistaksin iseennast, siis ei oleks mu ülistus mitte midagi. See, kes mind ülistab, on mu Isa, kellest teie ütlete: 'Ta on meie Jumal.'

⁵⁴Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who glorifies me, [of] whom ye say, He is our God.

⁵⁵Teie küll ei tunne teda, aga mina tunnen. Ja kui mina ütleksin, et ma teda ei tunne, siis ma oleksin teiesarnane valetaja. Kuid mina tunnen teda ja panen tallele tema sõna.

⁵⁵And ye know him not; but I know him; and if I said, I know him not, I should be like you, a liar. But I know him, and I keep his word.

⁵⁶Teie isa Aabraham tundis suurt rõõmu sellest, et ta saab näha minu päeva, ja ta nägi seda ja rõõmustas.'

⁵⁶Your father Abraham exulted in that he should see my day, and he saw and rejoiced.

⁵⁷Nüüd ütlesid juudid temale: 'Sina ei ole veel viiekümneaastanegi ja tahad olla näinud Aabrahami?'

⁵⁷The Jews therefore said to him, Thou hast not yet fifty years, and hast thou seen Abraham?

⁵⁸Jeesus ütles neile: 'Tõesti, tõesti, ma ütlen teile, enne kui Aabraham sündis, olen mina.'

⁵⁸Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

⁵⁹Nüüd nad võtsid kive, et teda nendega surnuks visata. Aga Jeesus peitis enese ära ja lahkus pühakojast.

⁵⁹They took up therefore stones that they might cast [them] at him; but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, [going through the midst of them, and thus passed on.]
