1Eks hüüa tarkus, eks tõsta arukus häält?
1Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding give forth her voice?
2Küngastel tee ääres, teelahkmetel, on ta võtnud aset.
2On the top of high places by the way, at the cross-paths she taketh her stand.
3Väravate kõrval, linna sissekäigus, seal, kus ustest sisse minnakse, kisendab ta:
3Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors, she crieth aloud.
4'Teile, mehed, ma hüüan, ja mu hääl kõlab inimlastele!
4Unto you, men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of man:
5Õppige, rumalad, mõistlikkust, ja albid, hakake aru saama!
5O ye simple, understand prudence; and ye foolish, understand sense.
6Kuulge, sest ma räägin tõtt ja mu huuled on avatud õigeks asjaks!
6Hear, for I will speak excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
7Jah, mu suulagi toob kuuldavale tõe, aga õelus on mu huultele jäle.
7For my palate shall meditate truth, and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8Kõik mu suu sõnad on siirad, neis pole midagi kavalat ega väära.
8All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing tortuous or perverse in them.
9Need kõik on selged arukale ja õiged neile, kes on leidnud tunnetuse.
9They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
10Võtke vastu mu õpetus, aga mitte hõbedat, pigem teadlikkus kui valitud kuld!
10Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold:
11Sest tarkus on parem kui pärlid ja ükski ihaldatav asi ei ole sellega võrdne.
11for wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things that may be desired are not equal to it.
12Mina, tarkus, olen mõistlikkuse naaber, ja ma leian tunnetuse ning targa nõu.
12I wisdom dwell [with] prudence, and find the knowledge [which cometh] of reflection.
13Issanda kartus on kurja vihkamine. Ma vihkan kõrkust ja ülbust, halbu eluviise ja pöörast suud.
13The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil; pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth do I hate.
14Mul on nõu ja kordaminek, ma olen mõistus, mul on võimus.
14Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am intelligence; I have strength.
15Minu abiga valitsevad kuningad ja võimukandjad korraldavad õiglust.
15By me kings reign, and rulers make just decrees;
16Minu abiga valitsevad vürstid ja suursugused, kõik õiged kohtumõistjad.
16by me princes rule, and nobles, all the judges of the earth.
17Mina armastan neid, kes armastavad mind, ja kes otsivad mind, need leiavad minu.
17I love those that love me; and they that seek me early shall find me.
18Minu juures on rikkus ja au, jääv varandus ja hüvang.
18Riches and honour are with me; durable wealth and righteousness.
19Minu vili on kullast parem, parem koguni kui puhas kuld, ja mu saak on parem kui valitud hõbe.
19My fruit is better than fine gold, yea, than pure gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
20Ma jäin õigluse rajale, keset õiguse jalgteid,
20I walk in the path of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
21et anda jõukust neile, kes mind armastavad, ja et täita nende varakambreid.
21that I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasuries.
22Issand lõi mind oma töö alguses, esimesena oma töödest muistsel ajal.
22Jehovah possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
23Igavikust alates on mind eraldatud, ürgajast peale, enne maailma algust.
23I was set up from eternity, from the beginning, before the earth was.
24Ma olen sündinud enne sügavusi, enne kui puhkesid allikad.
24When there were no depths, I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water.
25Veel enne kui mäed paigale pandi, enne künkaid sündisin mina,
25Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth;
26kui ta veel ei olnud teinud maad ega maastikku, ei maailma esimest tolmukübetki.
26while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the beginning of the dust of the world.
27Kui tema valmistas taevad, olin mina seal, siis kui ta joonistas sõõri sügavuse pinnale,
27When he prepared the heavens I was there; when he ordained the circle upon the face of the deep;
28kui ta kinnitas pilved ülal, kui said jõuliseks sügavuse allikad,
28when he established the skies above, when the fountains of the deep became strong;
29kui ta merele pani piiri, et veed ei astuks üle tema käsust, kui ta kinnitas maa alused,
29when he imposed on the sea his decree that the waters should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
30siis olin mina tema kõrval kui lemmiklaps, olin päevast päeva temale rõõmuks, mängisin igal ajal tema ees,
30then I was by him [his] nursling, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
31mängisin tema maailma maa peal ja tundsin rõõmu inimlastest.
31rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth, and my delights [were] with the sons of men.
32Ja nüüd, pojad, kuulge mind! Õndsad on need, kes hoiavad minu teed.
32And now, sons, hearken unto me, and blessed are they that keep my ways:
33Kuulge õpetust ja saage targaks, ärge jätke seda tähele panemata!
33hear instruction and be wise, and refuse it not.
34Õnnis on inimene, kes kuulab mind, kes päevast päeva valvab mu ustel, on vahiks mu uksepiitade juures.
34Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
35Sest kes leiab minu, leiab elu ja saab Issanda hea meele osaliseks.
35For whoso findeth me findeth life, and obtaineth favour of Jehovah;
36Aga kes ei taba mind, teeb kahju oma hingele; kõik, kes vihkavad mind, armastavad surma.'
36but he that sinneth against me doeth violence to his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
