1[] Η γλυκεια αποκρισις καταπραυνει θυμον· αλλ' ο λυπηρος λογος διεγειρει οργην.
1A soft answer turneth away fury; but a grievous word stirreth up anger.
2[] Η γλωσσα των σοφων καλλωπιζει την γνωσιν· το στομα δε των αφρονων εξερευγεται μωριαν.
2The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright; but the mouth of the foolish poureth out folly.
3[] Οι οφθαλμοι του Κυριου ειναι εν παντι τοπω, παρατηρουντες κακους και αγαθους.
3The eyes of Jehovah are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
4[] Η υγιαινουσα γλωσσα ειναι δενδρον ζωης· η δε διεστραμμενη, συντριψις εις το πνευμα.
4Gentleness of tongue is a tree of life; but crookedness therein is a breaking of the spirit.
5[] Ο αφρων καταφρονει την διδασκαλιαν του πατρος αυτου· ο δε φυλαττων ελεγχον ειναι φρονιμος.
5A fool despiseth his father's instruction; but he that regardeth reproof becometh prudent.
6[] Εν τω οικω του δικαιου ειναι θησαυρος πολυς· εις δε το εισοδημα του ασεβους διασκορπισμος.
6In the house of a righteous [man] is much treasure; but in the revenue of a wicked [man] is disturbance.
7[] Τα χειλη των σοφων διαδιδουσι γνωσιν· αλλ' η καρδια των αφρονων δεν ειναι ουτως.
7The lips of the wise disperse knowledge, but not so the heart of the foolish.
8[] Η θυσια των ασεβων ειναι βδελυγμα εις τον Κυριον· αλλ' η δεησις των ευθεων ευπροσδεκτος εις αυτον.
8The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9[] Βδελυγμα ειναι εις τον Κυριον η οδος του ασεβους· αγαπα δε τον θηρευοντα την δικαιοσυνην.
9The way of a wicked [man] is an abomination to Jehovah; but him that pursueth righteousness he loveth.
10[] Η διδασκαλια ειναι δυσαρεστος εις τον εγκαταλειποντα την οδον· ο μισων τον ελεγχον θελει τελευτησει.
10Grievous correction is for him that forsaketh the path; he that hateth reproof shall die.
11[] Ο αδης και η απωλεια ειναι εμπροσθεν του Κυριου· ποσω μαλλον αι καρδιαι των υιων των ανθρωπων;
11Sheol and destruction are before Jehovah; how much more then the hearts of the children of men!
12[] Ο χλευαστης δεν αγαπα τον ελεγχοντα αυτον, ουδε θελει υπαγει προς τους σοφους.
12A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him; he will not go unto the wise.
13[] Καρδια ευφραινομενη ιλαρυνει το προσωπον· υπο δε της λυπης της καρδιας καταθλιβεται το πνευμα.
13A joyful heart maketh a cheerful countenance; but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.
14[] Η καρδια του συνετου ζητει γνωσιν· το δε στομα των αφρονων βοσκει μωριαν.
14The heart of an intelligent [man] seeketh knowledge; but the mouth of the foolish feedeth on folly.
15[] Πασαι αι ημεραι του τεθλιμμενου ειναι κακαι· ο δε ευφραινομενος την καρδιαν εχει ευωχιαν παντοτεινην.
15All the days of the afflicted are evil; but a cheerful heart is a continual feast.
16[] Καλητερον το ολιγον εν φοβω Κυριου, παρα θησαυροι πολλοι και ταραχη εν αυτοις.
16Better is little with the fear of Jehovah than great store and disquietude therewith.
17Καλητερον ξενισμος λαχανων μετα αγαπης, παρα μοσχος σιτευτος μετα μισους.
17Better is a meal of herbs where love is, than a fatted ox and hatred therewith.
18[] Ο θυμωδης ανθρωπος διεγειρει μαχας· ο δε μακροθυμος καταπαυει εριδας.
18A furious man stirreth up contention; but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19[] Η οδος του οκνηρου ειναι ως πεφραγμενη απο ακανθας· αλλ' η οδος των ευθεων ειναι εξωμαλισμενη.
19The way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns; but the path of the upright is made plain.
20[] Υιος σοφος ευφραινει πατερα· ο δε μωρος ανθρωπος καταφρονει την μητερα αυτου.
20A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21[] Η μωρια ειναι χαρα εις τον ενδεη φρενων· ο δε συνετος ανθρωπος περιπατει ορθως.
21Folly is joy to him that is void of sense; but a man of understanding regulateth his walk.
22[] Οπου συμβουλιον δεν υπαρχει, οι σκοποι ματαιονονται· εν δε τω πληθει των συμβουλων στερεονονται.
22Without counsel purposes are disappointed; but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
23[] Χαρα εις τον ανθρωπον δια την αποκρισιν του στοματος αυτου, και λογος εν καιρω, ποσον καλος ειναι.
23A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; and a word in its season, how good is it!
24[] Η οδος της ζωης εις τον συνετον ειναι προς τα ανω, δια να εκκλινη απο του αδου κατω.
24The path of life is upwards for the wise, that he may depart from Sheol beneath.
25[] Ο Κυριος καταστρεφει τον οικον των υπερηφανων· στερεονει δε το οριον της χηρας.
25Jehovah plucketh up the house of the proud; but he establisheth the boundary of the widow.
26[] Οι λογισμοι του πονηρου ειναι βδελυγμα εις τον Κυριον· των δε καθαρων οι λογοι ευαρεστοι.
26The thoughts of the evil [man] are an abomination to Jehovah; but pure words are pleasant.
27[] Ο δωροληπτης ταραττει τον οικον αυτου· αλλ' οστις μισει τα δωρα θελει ζησει.
27He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
28[] Η καρδια του δικαιου προμελετα δια να αποκριθη· το δε στομα των ασεβων εξερευγεται κακα.
28The heart of a righteous [man] studieth to answer; but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29[] Ο Κυριος ειναι μακραν απο των ασεβων· εισακουει δε της δεησεως των δικαιων.
29Jehovah is far from the wicked; but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30[] Το φως των οφθαλμων ευφραινει την καρδιαν· και η καλη φημη παχυνει τα οστα.
30That which enlighteneth the eyes rejoiceth the heart; good tidings make the bones fat.
31[] Το ωτιον, το οποιον ακουει τον ελεγχον της ζωης, διατριβει μεταξυ των σοφων.
31The ear that heareth the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.
32[] Οστις απωθει την διδασκαλιαν, αποστρεφεται την ψυχην αυτου· αλλ' οστις ακουει τον ελεγχον, αποκτα συνεσιν.
32He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul; but he that heareth reproof getteth sense.
33[] Ο φοβος του Κυριου ειναι διδασκαλια σοφιας· και η ταπεινωσις προπορευεται της δοξης.
33The fear of Jehovah is the discipline of wisdom, and before honour [goeth] humility.
