¹આ પછી, ઈસુએ ગાલીલના પ્રદેશની આજુબાજુ મુસાફરી કરી. ઈસુ યહૂદિયામાં મુસાફરી કરવા ઈચ્છતો નહોતો, કારણ કે ત્યાંના યહૂદિઓ તેને મારી નાખવા ઈચ્છતા હતાં.

¹After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn’t walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

²તે યહૂદિઓના માંડવાપર્વનો સમય પાસે હતો.

²Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.

³તેથી ઈસુના ભાઈઓએ તેને કહ્યું, “તારે અહીંથી નીકળી જવું જોઈએ અને યહૂદિયાના ઉત્સવમાં જવું જોઈએ. પછી ત્યાં તારા શિષ્યો તું જે ચમત્કારો કરે છે તે જોઈ શકશે.

³His brothers therefore said to him, “Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.

⁴જો કોઈ વ્યક્તિ, લોકો તેને ઓળખે તેમ ઈચ્છતી હોય તો પછી તે વ્યક્તિએ તે જે કામ કરે તે છુપાવવા જોઈએ નહિ. તારી જાતને જગત સમક્ષ જાહેર કર. તું જે ચમત્કારો કરે તે તેઓને જોવા દે.”

⁴For no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”

⁵(ઈસુના ભાઈઓએ પણ તેનામાં વિશ્વાસ કર્યો નહિ.)

⁵For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.

⁶6ઈસુએ તેના ભાઈઓને કહ્યું, “મારા માટેનો યોગ્ય સમય હજુ આવ્યો નથી. પરંતુ તમારા જવા માટે કોઈ પણ સમય યોગ્ય છે.

⁶Jesus therefore said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.

⁷જગત તમને ધિક્કારી શકશે નહિ. પરંતુ જગત મને ધિક્કારે છે. શા માટે? કારણ કે હું જગતમાં લોકોને કહું છું કે તેઓ ભૂંડા કામો કરે છે.

⁷ The world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.

⁸તેથી તમે પર્વમાં જાઓ. હવે હું પર્વમાં જઈશ નહિ. મારા માટેનો યોગ્ય સમય હજુ આવ્યો નથી.”

⁸ You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.”

⁹ઈસુ આમ કહ્યા પછી ગાલીલમાં રહ્યો.

⁹Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.

¹⁰તેથી ઈસુના ભાઈઓ પર્વમાં જવા વિદાય થયા. તેઓના વિદાય થયા પછી ઈસુ પણ ગયો. પરંતુ લોકો તેને ન જુએ તે રીતે ગયો.

¹⁰But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.

¹¹યહૂદિઓ પર્વમાં ઈસુને શોધતા હતા. યહૂદિઓએ કહ્યું, “તે માણસ ક્યાં છે?”

¹¹The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, “Where is he?”

¹²ત્યાં લોકોનો મોટો સમૂહ હતો. આ લોકોમાંના ઘણા એકબીજા સાથે અંદરોઅંદર ઈસુ વિષે ગુપ્ત રીતે વાતો કરતા હતા. કેટલાક લોકોએ કહ્યું, “તે એક સારો માણસ છે,” પણ બીજા લોકોએ કહ્યું, “ના, તે લોકોને મૂર્ખ બનાવે છે.”

¹²There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.”

¹³પરંતુ લોકોમાંથી કોઈની પણ જાહેરમાં ઈસુ વિષે બોલવાની હિંમત ન હતી. લોકો યહૂદિ આગેવાનોથી ડરતા હતા.

¹³Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

¹⁴પર્વ લગભગ અડધુ પૂરું થયુ હતુ. પછી ઈસુ મંદિરમાં ગયો અને બોધ શરું કર્યો.

¹⁴But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

¹⁵યહૂદિઓ આશ્ચર્ય પામ્યા. તેઓએ કહ્યું, “આ માણસે શાળામાં કદી અભ્યાસ કર્યો નથી. આટલી બધી વિધા તે કેવી રીતે શીખ્યો?”

¹⁵The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”

¹⁶ઈસુએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “હું જે બોધ આપું છું તે મારો પોતાનો નથી પણ જેણે મને મોકલ્યો છે તેનો (દેવ) છે.

¹⁶Jesus therefore answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.

¹⁷જો કોઈ માણસ દેવ જે ઈચ્છે છે તે કરવા ઈચ્છે તો પછી તે વ્યક્તિ જાણશે કે મારો બોધ દેવ પાસેથી આવે છે. અથવા

¹⁷ If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.

¹⁸કોઈ વ્યક્તિ તેના વિચારનો બોધ આપે છે તેના પોતાના માટે માન મેળવવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરે છે. પરંતુ જે વ્યક્તિ તેને મોકલનાર માટે માન મેળવવા પ્રયત્ન કરે છે તે વ્યક્તિ સાચું કહે છે. તેનામાં કશું ખોટું હોતું નથી.

¹⁸ He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

¹⁹તમને નિયમશાસ્ત્ર આપ્યુ. ખરું ને? પરંતુ તમારામાંના કોઈએ તેનું પાલન કર્યુ નથી. તમે શા માટે મને મારી નાખવા પ્રયત્ન કરો છો?”

¹⁹ Didn’t Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?”

²⁰લોકોએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “તારામાં અશુદ્ધ આત્મા પ્રવેશેલો છે અને તને ગાંડો બનાવ્યો છે! અમે તને મારી નાખવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરતા નથી.”

²⁰The multitude answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?”

²¹ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું, “મેં એક ચમત્કાર કર્યો અને તમે બધા અચરજ પામ્યા.

²¹Jesus answered them, “I did one work, and you all marvel because of it.

²²મૂસાએ તમને સુન્નતનો નિયમ આપ્યો છે. (પરંતુ ખરેખર મૂસાએ તમને સુન્નતનો નિયમ આપ્યો નથી. મૂસાના પહેલા જે લોકો જીવી ગયા તેઓની પાસેથી સુન્નતનો નિયમ આવ્યો છે.) તેથી કેટલીક વાર વિશ્રામવારે શિશુની સુન્નત કરવામાં આવે છે.

²² Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.

²³આ બતાવે છે કે વ્યક્તિ વિશ્રામવારે મૂસાના નિયમનું પાલન કરવા સુન્નત કરાવી શકે છે. તેથી વિશ્રામવારના દિવસે માણસના આખા શરીરને સાજા કરવા માટે મારા પર શા માટે ગુસ્સે થયા છો?

²³ If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?

²⁴વસ્તુઓ જે રીતે દેખાય છે તેના આધારે ન્યાય કરવાનું બંધ કરો. ન્યાયી બનો અને જે સાચું છે તેનો યથાર્થ ન્યાય કરો.”

²⁴ Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

²⁵પછી કેટલાક લોકો જે યરૂશાલેમમાં રહે છે તેઓએ કહ્યું, “આ તે માણસ છે જેને તેઓ મારી નાખવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરે છે.

²⁵Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this he whom they seek to kill?

²⁶પરંતુ તે જ્યાં બધા જોઈ શકે અને તેને સાંભળી શકે ત્યાં બોધ આપે છે. અને કોઈ પણ વ્યક્તિ તેને બોધ આપતા અટકાવવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરતા નથી. અધિકારીઓએ શું ખરેખર નિર્ણય કર્યો હશે કે તે ખરેખર ખ્રિસ્ત જ છે?

²⁶Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?

²⁷પણ અમે જાણીએ છીએ કે આ માણસનું ઘર ક્યાં છે. પણ ખરેખર ખ્રિસ્ત જ્યારે આવશે ત્યારે કોઈ વ્યક્તિ જાણશે નહિ કે તે ક્યાંથી આવે છે?”

²⁷However we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from.”

²⁸ઈસુ હજી મંદિરમાં શીખવતો હતો. ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “હા, તમે મને જાણો છો અને હું ક્યાંનો છું એ પણ તમે જાણો છો. પણ હું મારી પોતાની સત્તાથી આવ્યો નથી. જેણે મોકલ્યો છે તે (દેવ) સત્ય છે. તમે તેને ઓળખતા નથી.

²⁸Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know.

²⁹પણ હું તેને ઓળખું છું અને હું તેની પાસેથી આવ્યો છું. તેણે મને મોકલ્યો છે.”

²⁹ I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”

³⁰જ્યારે ઈસુએ આ કહ્યું, લોકોએ તેની ધરપકડ કરવા પ્રયત્ન કર્યો. પણ કોઈ વ્યક્તિએ ઈસુ પર હાથ નાખ્યો નહિ. હજુ ઈસુને મારી નાખવા માટેનો યોગ્ય સમય ન હતો.

³⁰They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

³¹પરંતુ લોકોમાંના ઘણા ઈસુમાં વિશ્વાસ રાખતા હતા. લોકોએ કહ્યું, “અમે ખ્રિસ્તની આવવાની રાહ જોઈએ છીએ. જ્યારે ખ્રિસ્ત આવશે, ત્યારે તે શું આ માણસ (ઈસુ) કરતા વધારે ચમત્કારો કરશે? ના! આથી આ માણસ જ ખ્રિસ્ત હોવો જોઈએ.”

³¹But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “When the Christ comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”

³²ઈસુ વિષે લોકો જે ગણગણાટ કરતા હતા તે ફરોશીઓએ સાંભળ્યું. તેથી મુખ્ય યાજકો અને ફરોશીઓએ કેટલાક મંદિરના ભાલદારોને ઈસુની ધરપકડ કરવા મોકલ્યા.

³²The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

³³પછી ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “હજુ થોડો સમય હું તમારી સાથે રહીશ. પછી હું જેણે (દેવ) મને મોકલ્યો છે તેની પાસે પાછો જઈશ.

³³Then Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.

³⁴તમે મારી શોધ કરશો, પણ તમે મને શોધી શકશો નહિ. અને જ્યાં હું છું ત્યાં તમે આવી શકશો નહિ.”

³⁴ You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come.”

³⁵યહૂદિઓએ એકબીજાને કહ્યું, “આ માણસ ક્યાં જશે કે આપણે શોધી શકીશું નહિ. જ્યાં આપણા લોકો રહે છે તે ગ્રીક શહેરમાં તે જશે? શું તે ગ્રીક લોકોને ત્યાં બોધ આપશે?

³⁵The Jews therefore said among themselves, “Where will this man go that we won’t find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

³⁶માણસ (ઈસુ) કહે છે, ‘તમે મને શોધશો પણ તમે મને શોધી શકશો નહિ.’ અને તે એમ પણ કહે છે, ‘હું જ્યાં છું ત્યાં તમે આવી શકશો નહિ’ તેનો અર્થ શો?”

³⁶What is this word that he said, ‘You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come’? ”

³⁷પર્વનો છેલ્લો દિવસ આવ્યો. તે ઘણો જ અગત્યનો દિવસ હતો. તે દિવસે ઈસુ ઊભો થયો અને મોટા સાદે કહ્યું, “જો કોઈ માણસ તરસ્યો હોય તો તે મારી પાસે આવે અને પીએ.

³⁷Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!

³⁸જો કોઈ માણસ મારામાં વિશ્વાસ મૂકે છે તો તેના હૃદયમાંથી જીવતા પાણીની નદીઓ વહેશે. શાસ્ત્ર જે કહે છે તે એ જ છે.”

³⁸ He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.”

³⁹ઈસુ પવિત્ર આત્મા વિષે કહેતો હતો. પવિત્ર આત્મા હજુ લોકોને આપવામાં આવ્યો ન હતો કારણ કે હજુ ઈસુ મૃત્યુ પામીને મહિમાવાન થયો ન હતો. પણ પાછળથી પેલા લોકો જે ઈસુમાં વિશ્વાસ રાખશે તેઓ આત્માને પ્રાપ્ત કરશે.

³⁹But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.

⁴⁰લોકોએ ઈસુએ જે બધી બાબતો કહી તે સાંભળી. કેટલાક લોકોએ કહ્યું, “આ માણસ ખરેખર પ્રબોધક જ છે.”

⁴⁰Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, “This is truly the prophet.”

⁴¹બીજા કેટલાક લોકોએ કહ્યું, “તે જ ખ્રિસ્ત છે.” બીજા લોકોએ કહ્યું, “ખ્રિસ્ત ગાલીલમાંથી આવશે નહિ.

⁴¹Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?

⁴²શાસ્ત્ર કહે છે, ખ્રિસ્ત દાઉદના વંશમાંથી આવનાર છે, અને શાસ્ત્ર કહે છે કે ખ્રિસ્ત બેથલેહેમમાંથી આવનાર છે, જે શહેરમાં દાઉદ હતો.”

⁴²Hasn’t the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, 2 Samuel 7:12 and from Bethlehem, Micah 5:2 the village where David was?”

⁴³તેથી લોકો ઈસુ વિષે એકબીજા સાથે સંમત થયા નહિ.

⁴³So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.

⁴⁴કેટલાક લોકો ઈસુની ધરપકડ કરવા ઈચ્છતા હતા. પણ આમ કરવાનો કોઈએ પ્રયત્ન કર્યો નહિ. યહૂદિ અધિકારીઓએ વિશ્વાસ કરવાની ના પાડી

⁴⁴Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.

⁴⁵મંદિરના ભાલદારો મુખ્ય યાજકો અને ફરોશીઓ પાસે પાછા ગયા. યાજકો અને ફરોશીઓએ પૂછયું, “તમે ઈસુને શા માટે લાવ્યા નથી?”

⁴⁵The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him?”

⁴⁶મંદિરના ભાલદારોએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “તે જે બાબતો કહે છે તે કોઈ પણ માણસના શબ્દો કરતા મહાન છે.”

⁴⁶The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”

⁴⁷ફરોશીઓએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “ઈસુએ તમને પણ મૂર્ખ બનાવ્યા શું!

⁴⁷The Pharisees therefore answered them, “You aren’t also led astray, are you?

⁴⁸અધિકારીઓમાંથી કોઈએ તેનામાં વિશ્વાસ કર્યો? ના! શું આપણા ફરોશીઓમાંથી કોઈને તેનામાં વિશ્વાસ હતો? ના!

⁴⁸Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?

⁴⁹પણ પેલા લોકો બહાર છે તેઓ નિયમશાસ્ત્ર વિષે જાણતા નથી. તેઓ દેવના શાપિત છે!”

⁴⁹But this multitude that doesn’t know the law is accursed.”

⁵⁰નિકોદેમસ ત્યાં તે સમૂહમાં હતો. નિકોદેમસ તેઓમાંનો એક જે અગાઉ ઈસુ પાસે આવ્યો હતો. નિકોદેમસે કહ્યું,

⁵⁰Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,

⁵¹“માણસને પહેલા સાંભળ્યા વિના શું આપણું નિયમશાસ્ત્ર આપણને તેનો ન્યાય કરવા દે છે? જ્યાં સુધી તેણે શું કર્યું છે તે આપણે જાણીએ નહિ ત્યાં સુધી આપણે તેનો ન્યાય કરી શકતા નથી.”

⁵¹“Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?”

⁵²યહૂદિ અધિકારીઓએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “શું તું પણ ગાલીલનો છે? શાસ્ત્રોનો અભ્યાસ કર, તું વાંચી શકીશ કે કોઈ પ્રબોધક ગાલીલમાંથી આવનાર નથી.” (યોહાનની કેટલીક પ્રાચીન નકલોમાં 7:53-8:11 કલમો ઉમેરેલ નથી)

⁵²They answered him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee. See Isaiah 9:1 and Matthew 4:13-16. ”

⁵³બધા યહૂદિ અધિકારીઓ તેને છોડીને ગયા.
