1ויהי כאשר קרבו לירושלים אל בית פגי ובית היני בהר הזיתים וישלח שנים מתלמידיו׃
1And when they draw near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sends two of his disciples,
2ויאמר אליהם לכו אל הכפר אשר ממולכם והיה כבאכם שמה תמצאו עיר אסור אשר לא ישב עליו אדם אותו התירו והביאו׃
2and says to them, Go into the village which is over against you, and immediately on entering into it ye will find a colt tied, upon which no [child] of man has ever sat: loose it and lead it [here].
3וכי יאמר אליכם איש למה תעשו זאת ואמרתם האדון צריך לו וברגע ישלחנו הנה׃
3And if any one say to you, Why do ye this? say, The Lord has need of it; and straightway he sends it hither.
4וילכו וימצאו העיר אסור אל השער בחוץ על אם הדרך ויתירוהו׃
4And they departed, and found a colt bound to the door without at the crossway, and they loose him.
5ואנשים מן העמדים שם אמרו אליהם מה זאת תעשו להתיר את העיר׃
5And some of those who stood there said to them, What are ye doing, loosing the colt?
6ויאמרו אליהם כאשר צום ישוע ויניחו להם׃
6And they said to them as Jesus had commanded. And they let them [do it].
7ויביאו את העיר אל ישוע וישליכו עליו את בגדיהם וישב עליו׃
7And they led the colt to Jesus, and cast their clothes upon it, and he sat on it;
8ורבים פרשו את בגדיהם על הדרך ואחרים כרתו ענפים מן העצים וישטחו על הדרך׃
8and many strewed their clothes on the way, and others cut down branches from the trees [and went on strewing them on the way].
9וההלכים לפניו ואחריו צעקים לאמר הושע נא ברוך הבא בשם יהוה׃
9And those going on before and those following cried out, Hosanna! blessed [be] he that comes in [the] Lord's name.
10ברוכה מלכות דוד אבינו הבאה בשם יהוה הושע נא במרומים׃
10Blessed [be] the coming kingdom of our father David. Hosanna in the highest!
11ויבא ישוע ירושלים ואל בית המקדש וירא ויתבונן על הכל והיום רפה לערוב ויצא אל בית היני עם שנים העשר׃
11And he entered into Jerusalem and into the temple; and having looked round on all things, the hour being already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
12ויהי ממחרת בצאתם מבית היני וירעב׃
12And on the morrow, when they were gone out of Bethany, he hungered.
13וירא תאנה מרחוק ולא עלים ויבא לראות הימצא בה פרי ויקרב אליה ולא מצא בה כי אם עלים לבד כי לא היתה עת תאנים׃
13And seeing from afar off a fig-tree which had leaves, he came, if perhaps he might find something on it. And having come up to it he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the time of figs.
14ויען ויאמר אליה מעתה איש אל יאכל פרי ממך עד עולם וישמעו תלמידיו׃
14And answering he said to it, Let no one eat fruit of thee any more for ever. And his disciples heard [it].
15ויבאו ירושלים ויבא ישוע אל המקדש ויחל לגרש משם את המוכרים ואת הקונים ויהפך את שלחנות השלחנים ואת מושבות מכרי היונים׃
15And they come to Jerusalem, and entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who sold and who bought in the temple, and he overthrew the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of the dove-sellers,
16ולא הניח לאיש לשאת כלי דרך המקדש׃
16and suffered not that any one should carry any package through the temple.
17וילמד ויאמר להם הלא כתוב כי ביתי בית תפלה יקרא לכל העמים ואתם עשיתם אתו מערת פריאים׃
17And he taught saying to them, Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? but *ye* have made it a den of robbers.
18וישמעו הסופרים וראשי הכהנים ויתנכלו אתו להשמידו כי יראו מפניו יען אשר כל העם משתוממים על תורתו׃
18And the chief priests and the scribes heard [it], and they sought how they might destroy him; for they feared him, because all the crowd were astonished at his doctrine.
19ויהי בערב ויצא אל מחוץ לעיר׃
19And when it was evening he went forth without the city.
20ויהי הם עברים בבקר ויראו את התאנה כי יבשה עם שרשיה׃
20And passing by early in the morning they saw the fig-tree dried up from the roots.
21ויזכר פטרוס ויאמר אליו רבי הנה התאנה אשר אררתה יבשה׃
21And Peter, remembering [what Jesus had said], says to him, Rabbi, see, the fig-tree which thou cursedst is dried up.
22ויען ישוע ויאמר אליהם תהי נא בכם אמונת אלהים׃
22And Jesus answering says to them, Have faith in God.
23כי אמן אמר אני לכם כל אשר יאמר אל ההר הזה הנשא והעתק אל תוך הים ואין ספק בלבבו כי אם יאמין כי יהיה כאשר אמר כן גם יהיה לו׃
23Verily I say to you, that whosoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou taken away and cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but believe that what he says takes place, whatever he shall say shall come to pass for him.
24על כן אני אמר לכם כל אשר תשאלו בהתפללכם האמינו כי תקחו ויהי לכם׃
24For this reason I say to you, All things whatsoever ye pray for and ask, believe that ye receive it, and it shall come to pass for you.
25וכי תעמדו להתפלל תסלחו לכל איש את אשר בלבבכם עליו למען יסלח לכם אביכם שבשמים אף הוא את פשעיכם׃
25And when ye stand praying, forgive if ye have anything against any one, that your Father also who is in the heavens may forgive you your offences.
26ואתם אם לא תסלחו אף אביכם שבשמים לא יסלח לכם את פשעיכם׃
26But if *ye* do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in the heavens forgive your offences.
27וישובו ויבאו ירושלים ויהי הוא מתהלך במקדש ויבאו אליו הכהנים הגדולים והסופרים והזקנים׃
27And they come again to Jerusalem. And as he walked about in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders come to him,
28ויאמרו אליו באי זו רשות אתה עשה אלה ומי נתן לך את הרשות הזאת לעשות את אלה׃
28and they say to him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority, that thou shouldest do these things?
29ויאמר ישוע אליהם גם אני אשאלה אתכם דבר אחד ואתם השיבוני ואמר לכם באי זו רשות אני עשה אלה׃
29And Jesus answering said to them, *I* also will ask you one thing, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things:
30טבילת יוחנן המן השמים היתה אם מבני אדם השיבוני׃
30The baptism of John, was it of heaven, or of men? answer me.
31ויחשבו כה וכה בקרבם לאמר אם נאמר מן השמים יאמר מדוע אפוא לא האמנתם לו׃
31And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we should say, Of heaven, he will say, Why [then] have ye not believed him?
32או הנאמר מבני אדם וייראו את העם כי כלם חשבו את יוחנן לנביא באמת׃
32but should we say, Of men -- they feared the people; for all held of John that he was truly a prophet.
33ויענו ויאמרו אל ישוע לא ידענו ויען ישוע ויאמר אליהם אם כן גם אני לא אמר לכם באי זו רשות אני עשה אלה׃
33And they answering say to Jesus, We do not know. And Jesus [answering] says to them, Neither do *I* tell you by what authority I do these things.
