1Lalu berkatalah Bildad, "Berapa lama lagi kaubicara begitu? Kata-katamu seperti angin yang menderu.
1Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
2(8:1)
2How long wilt thou speak these things? And [how long] shall the words of thy mouth be [like] a mighty wind?
3Allah tidak pernah membengkokkan keadilan; tidak pernah gagal menegakkan kebenaran.
3Doth God pervert justice? Or doth the Almighty pervert righteousness?
4Mungkin anak-anakmu berdosa terhadap Dia, maka sepantasnyalah mereka dihukum oleh-Nya.
4If thy children have sinned against him, And he hath delivered them into the hand of their transgression;
5Tetapi jika kepada-Nya engkau bernaung, meminta belas kasihan dan memohon ampun,
5If thou wouldest seek diligently unto God, And make thy supplication to the Almighty;
6jika hatimu jujur, tanpa cela, Allah akan menolongmu dengan segera; dan sebagai imbalan, rumah tanggamu akan dipulihkan.
6If thou wert pure and upright: Surely now he would awake for thee, And make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.
7Kekayaanmu yang hilang itu tidak berarti dibandingkan dengan apa yang kaudapat nanti.
7And though thy beginning was small, Yet thy latter end would greatly increase.
8Orang arif di zaman dahulu hendaknya kauperhatikan, dan kaurenungkan pengalaman para nenek moyang.
8For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, And apply thyself to that which their fathers have searched out:
9Hidup kita pendek, kita tak tahu apa-apa; hari-hari kita seperti bayangan belaka.
9(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, Because our days upon earth are a shadow);
10Dengarkan perkataan orang arif itu dahulu, mereka memberi pelajaran ini kepadamu,
10Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, And utter words out of their heart?
11'Di tempat berair saja tumbuh gelagah; pandan hanya terdapat di tanah bencah.
11Can the rush grow up without mire? Can the flag grow without water?
12Jika airnya kering, gelagah itu merana, lebih cepat daripada tumbuhan lainnya. Padahal masih segar dan belum saatnya, ia dipotong dan diambil manfaatnya.
12Whilst it is yet in its greenness, [and] not cut down, It withereth before any [other] herb.
13Begitulah orang yang tidak bertuhan. Ia lupa pada Allah, maka hilanglah harapan.
13So are the paths of all that forget God; And the hope of the godless man shall perish:
14Seutas benang yang lembut menjadi andalannya; sarang laba-laba menjadi kepercayaannya.
14Whose confidence shall break in sunder, And whose trust is a spider's web.
15Kuatkah sarang itu jika dijadikan sandaran? Tahankah benang itu jika dijadikan pegangan?'
15He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: He shall hold fast thereby, but it shall not endure.
16Seperti ilalang, segarlah orang yang tidak bertuhan; jika disinari surya, ia tumbuh subur dan memenuhi taman.
16He is green before the sun, And his shoots go forth over his garden.
17Akarnya membelit batu-batu di tanah; melilit kuat, ia tak mudah goyah.
17His roots are wrapped about the [stone] -heap, He beholdeth the place of stones.
18Tetapi, coba, cabutlah sekarang ilalang itu, maka seolah-olah tak pernah ia ada di situ.
18If he be destroyed from his place, Then it shall deny him, [saying], I have not seen thee.
19Ya, kesenangan orang jahat cuma itu saja; orang lain datang dan menggantikan dia.
19Behold, this is the joy of his way; And out of the earth shall others spring.
20Tapi Allah tak pernah meninggalkan orang setia, dan tak pernah pula Ia menolong orang durhaka.
20Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, Neither will he uphold the evil-doers.
21Mulutmu akan dibuat-Nya tertawa, bibirmu akan bersorak-sorak ria.
21He will yet fill thy mouth with laughter, And thy lips with shouting.
22Pembencimu akan malu dan merasa rendah, dan rumah penjahat akan dirusak hingga musnah."
22They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; And the tent of the wicked shall be no more.
