¹このように、キリストは肉において苦しまれたのであるから、あなたがたも同じ覚悟で心の武装をしなさい。肉において苦しんだ人は、それによって罪からのがれたのである。

¹Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;

²それは、肉における残りの生涯を、もはや人間の欲情によらず、神の御旨によって過ごすためである。

²that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

³過ぎ去った時代には、あなたがたは、異邦人の好みにまかせて、好色、欲情、酔酒、宴楽、暴飲、気ままな偶像礼拝などにふけってきたが、もうそれで十分であろう。

³For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.

⁴今はあなたがたが、そうした度を過ごした乱行に加わらないので、彼らは驚きあやしみ、かつ、ののしっている。

⁴They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming:

⁵彼らは、やがて生ける者と死ねる者とをさばくかたに、申し開きをしなくてはならない。

⁵who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

⁶死人にさえ福音が宣べ伝えられたのは、彼らは肉においては人間としてさばきを受けるが、霊においては神に従って生きるようになるためである。

⁶For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit.

⁷万物の終りが近づいている。だから、心を確かにし、身を慎んで、努めて祈りなさい。

⁷But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer.

⁸何よりもまず、互の愛を熱く保ちなさい。愛は多くの罪をおおうものである。

⁸And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.

⁹不平を言わずに、互にもてなし合いなさい。

⁹Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.

¹⁰あなたがたは、それぞれ賜物をいただいているのだから、神のさまざまな恵みの良き管理人として、それをお互のために役立てるべきである。

¹⁰As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.

¹¹語る者は、神の御言を語る者にふさわしく語り、奉仕する者は、神から賜わる力による者にふさわしく奉仕すべきである。それは、すべてのことにおいてイエス・キリストによって、神があがめられるためである。栄光と力とが世々限りなく、彼にあるように、アァメン。

¹¹If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

¹²愛する者たちよ。あなたがたを試みるために降りかかって来る火のような試錬を、何か思いがけないことが起ったかのように驚きあやしむことなく、

¹²Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.

¹³むしろ、キリストの苦しみにあずかればあずかるほど、喜ぶがよい。それは、キリストの栄光が現れる際に、よろこびにあふれるためである。

¹³But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.

¹⁴キリストの名のためにそしられるなら、あなたがたはさいわいである。その時には、栄光の霊、神の霊が、あなたがたに宿るからである。

¹⁴If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.

¹⁵あなたがたのうち、だれも、人殺し、盗人、悪を行う者、あるいは、他人に干渉する者として苦しみに会うことのないようにしなさい。

¹⁵For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters.

¹⁶しかし、クリスチャンとして苦しみを受けるのであれば、恥じることはない。かえって、この名によって神をあがめなさい。

¹⁶But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter.

¹⁷さばきが神の家から始められる時がきた。それが、わたしたちからまず始められるとしたら、神の福音に従わない人々の行く末は、どんなであろうか。

¹⁷For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don’t obey the Good News of God?

¹⁸また義人でさえ、かろうじて救われるのだとすれば、不信なる者や罪人は、どうなるであろうか。だから、神の御旨に従って苦しみを受ける人々は、善をおこない、そして、真実であられる創造者に、自分のたましいをゆだねるがよい。

¹⁸“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?” Proverbs 11:31

¹⁹だから、神の御旨に従って苦しみを受ける人々は、善をおこない、そして、真実であられる創造者に、自分のたましいをゆだねるがよい。

¹⁹Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.
