¹そこで、あなたがたのうちの長老たちに勧める。わたしも、長老のひとりで、キリストの苦難についての証人であり、また、やがて現れようとする栄光にあずかる者である。

¹I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and who will also share in the glory that will be revealed.

²あなたがたにゆだねられている神の羊の群れを牧しなさい。しいられてするのではなく、神に従って自ら進んでなし、恥ずべき利得のためではなく、本心から、それをしなさい。

²Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly;

³また、ゆだねられた者たちの上に権力をふるうことをしないで、むしろ、群れの模範となるべきである。

³neither as lording it over those entrusted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock.

⁴そうすれば、大牧者が現れる時には、しぼむことのない栄光の冠を受けるであろう。

⁴When the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn’t fade away.

⁵同じように、若い人たちよ。長老たちに従いなさい。また、みな互に謙遜を身につけなさい。神は高ぶる者をしりぞけ、へりくだる者に恵みを賜うからである。

⁵Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Proverbs 3:34

⁶だから、あなたがたは、神の力強い御手の下に、自らを低くしなさい。時が来れば神はあなたがたを高くして下さるであろう。

⁶Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;

⁷神はあなたがたをかえりみていて下さるのであるから、自分の思いわずらいを、いっさい神にゆだねるがよい。

⁷casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

⁸身を慎み、目をさましていなさい。あなたがたの敵である悪魔が、ほえたけるししのように、食いつくすべきものを求めて歩き回っている。

⁸Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

⁹この悪魔にむかい、信仰にかたく立って、抵抗しなさい。あなたがたのよく知っているとおり、全世界にいるあなたがたの兄弟たちも、同じような苦しみの数々に会っているのである。

⁹Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings.

¹⁰あなたがたをキリストにある永遠の栄光に招き入れて下さったあふるる恵みの神は、しばらくの苦しみの後、あなたがたをいやし、強め、力づけ、不動のものとして下さるであろう。

¹⁰But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

¹¹どうか、力が世々限りなく、神にあるように、アァメン。

¹¹To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

¹²わたしは、忠実な兄弟として信頼しているシルワノの手によって、この短い手紙をあなたがたにおくり、勧めをし、また、これが神のまことの恵みであることをあかしした。この恵みのうちに、かたく立っていなさい。

¹²Through Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.

¹³あなたがたと共に選ばれてバビロンにある教会、ならびに、わたしの子マルコから、あなたがたによろしく。愛の接吻をもって互にあいさつをかわしなさい。キリストにあるあなたがた一同に、平安があるように。

¹³She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, greets you; and so does Mark, my son.

¹⁴愛の接吻をもって互にあいさつをかわしなさい。キリストにあるあなたがた一同に、平安があるように。

¹⁴Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
