¹Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother,

²to the saints and faithful brothers The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” in Christ at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

³わたしたちは、いつもあなたがたのために祈り、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神に感謝している。

³We give thanks to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

⁴これは、キリスト・イエスに対するあなたがたの信仰と、すべての聖徒に対していだいているあなたがたの愛とを、耳にしたからである。

⁴having heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which you have toward all the saints,

⁵この愛は、あなたがたのために天にたくわえられている望みに基くものであり、その望みについては、あなたがたはすでに、あなたがたのところまで伝えられた福音の真理の言葉によって聞いている。

⁵because of the hope which is laid up for you in the heavens, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the Good News,

⁶そして、この福音は、世界中いたる所でそうであるように、あなたがたのところでも、これを聞いて神の恵みを知ったとき以来、実を結んで成長しているのである。

⁶which has come to you; even as it is in all the world and is bearing fruit and growing, as it does in you also, since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth;

⁷あなたがたはこの福音を、わたしたちと同じ僕である、愛するエペフラスから学んだのであった。彼はあなたがたのためのキリストの忠実な奉仕者であって、

⁷even as you learned of Epaphras our beloved fellow servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf,

⁸あなたがたが御霊によっていだいている愛を、わたしたちに知らせてくれたのである。

⁸who also declared to us your love in the Spirit.

⁹そういうわけで、これらの事を耳にして以来、わたしたちも絶えずあなたがたのために祈り求めているのは、あなたがたがあらゆる霊的な知恵と理解力とをもって、神の御旨を深く知り、

⁹For this cause, we also, since the day we heard this, don’t cease praying and making requests for you, that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

¹⁰主のみこころにかなった生活をして真に主を喜ばせ、あらゆる良いわざを行って実を結び、神を知る知識をいよいよ増し加えるに至ることである。

¹⁰that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

¹¹更にまた祈るのは、あなたがたが、神の栄光の勢いにしたがって賜わるすべての力によって強くされ、何事も喜んで耐えかつ忍び、

¹¹strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory, for all endurance and perseverance with joy;

¹²光のうちにある聖徒たちの特権にあずかるに足る者とならせて下さった父なる神に、感謝することである。

¹²giving thanks to the Father, who made us fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light;

¹³神は、わたしたちをやみの力から救い出して、その愛する御子の支配下に移して下さった。

¹³who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the Kingdom of the Son of his love;

¹⁴わたしたちは、この御子によってあがない、すなわち、罪のゆるしを受けているのである。

¹⁴in whom we have our redemption, TR adds “through his blood,” the forgiveness of our sins;

¹⁵御子は、見えない神のかたちであって、すべての造られたものに先だって生れたかたである。

¹⁵who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

¹⁶万物は、天にあるものも地にあるものも、見えるものも見えないものも、位も主権も、支配も権威も、みな御子にあって造られたからである。これらいっさいのものは、御子によって造られ、御子のために造られたのである。

¹⁶For by him all things were created, in the heavens and on the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and for him.

¹⁷彼は万物よりも先にあり、万物は彼にあって成り立っている。

¹⁷He is before all things, and in him all things are held together.

¹⁸そして自らは、そのからだなる教会のかしらである。彼は初めの者であり、死人の中から最初に生れたかたである。それは、ご自身がすべてのことにおいて第一の者となるためである。

¹⁸He is the head of the body, the assembly, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

¹⁹神は、御旨によって、御子のうちにすべての満ちみちた徳を宿らせ、

¹⁹For all the fullness was pleased to dwell in him;

²⁰そして、その十字架の血によって平和をつくり、万物、すなわち、地にあるもの、天にあるものを、ことごとく、彼によってご自分と和解させて下さったのである。

²⁰and through him to reconcile all things to himself, by him, whether things on the earth, or things in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of his cross.

²¹あなたがたも、かつては悪い行いをして神から離れ、心の中で神に敵対していた。

²¹You, being in past times alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil works,

²²しかし今では、御子はその肉のからだにより、その死をとおして、あなたがたを神と和解させ、あなたがたを聖なる、傷のない、責められるところのない者として、みまえに立たせて下さったのである。

²²yet now he has reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and without blemish and blameless before him,

²³ただし、あなたがたは、ゆるぐことがなく、しっかりと信仰にふみとどまり、すでに聞いている福音の望みから移り行くことのないようにすべきである。この福音は、天の下にあるすべての造られたものに対して宣べ伝えられたものであって、それにこのパウロが奉仕しているのである。

²³if it is so that you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the Good News which you heard, which is being proclaimed in all creation under heaven; of which I, Paul, was made a servant.

²⁴今わたしは、あなたがたのための苦難を喜んで受けており、キリストのからだなる教会のために、キリストの苦しみのなお足りないところを、わたしの肉体をもって補っている。

²⁴Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the assembly;

²⁵わたしは、神の言を告げひろめる務を、あなたがたのために神から与えられているが、そのために教会に奉仕する者になっているのである。

²⁵of which I was made a servant, according to the stewardship of God which was given me toward you, to fulfill the word of God,

²⁶その言の奥義は、代々にわたってこの世から隠されていたが、今や神の聖徒たちに明らかにされたのである。

²⁶the mystery which has been hidden for ages and generations. But now it has been revealed to his saints,

²⁷神は彼らに、異邦人の受くべきこの奥義が、いかに栄光に富んだものであるかを、知らせようとされたのである。この奥義は、あなたがたのうちにいますキリストであり、栄光の望みである。

²⁷to whom God was pleased to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory;

²⁸わたしたちはこのキリストを宣べ伝え、知恵をつくしてすべての人を訓戒し、また、すべての人を教えている。それは、彼らがキリストにあって全き者として立つようになるためである。わたしはこのために、わたしのうちに力強く働いておられるかたの力により、苦闘しながら努力しているのである。

²⁸whom we proclaim, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus;

²⁹わたしはこのために、わたしのうちに力強く働いておられるかたの力により、苦闘しながら努力しているのである。

²⁹for which I also labor, striving according to his working, which works in me mightily.
