1Follow after love, and be emulous of spiritual [manifestations], but rather that ye may prophesy.
2Win yețmeslayen tutlayin ur nețwassen ara, mačči i yemdanen i gețmeslay lameɛna i Ṛebbi, imi yiwen ur ifehhem acu i d-yeqqaṛ ; axaṭer s tezmert n Ṛṛuḥ iqedsen i d-iqqaṛ ayen ur nezmir a t-nefhem.
2For he that speaks with a tongue does not speak to men but to God: for no one hears; but in spirit he speaks mysteries.
3Ma d win i d-ițxebbiṛen s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi, ițmeslay-ed i yemdanen, yesnernay liman-nsen, inehhu-ten, yețṣebbiṛ-iten.
3But he that prophesies speaks to men [in] edification, and encouragement, and consolation.
4Win yețmeslayen tutlayin ur nețwassen ara, yesseǧhad iman-is di liman, ma d win i d-ițxebbiṛen s wayen i d-ițțasen s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi, yesseǧhad tajmaɛt n Sidi Ṛebbi meṛṛa.
4He that speaks with a tongue edifies himself; but he that prophesies edifies [the] assembly.
5Bɣiɣ aț-țemmeslayem meṛṛa s tutlayin ur nețwassen ara, lameɛna bɣiɣ axiṛ ma tețxebbiṛem s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi. Win yețxebbiṛen s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi yenfeɛ akteṛ n win yețmeslayen tutlayin-agi, anagar ma yella izmer a d-yessefhem ayen i d-yenna, iwakken tajmaɛt meṛṛa aț-țestenfeɛ.
5Now I desire that ye should all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy. But greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, unless he interpret, that the assembly may receive edification.
6Tura ay atmaten, lemmer a n-aseɣ ɣuṛ-wen a wen-d mmeslayeɣ s tutlayt ur nețwassen ara, deg wacu ara kkun-nefɛeɣ ? A kkun-nefɛeɣ ma wwiɣ-awen-d ayen i yi-d-ițțuweḥḥan d wayen i yi-d-yețțuxebṛen s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi, neɣ țamusni akk-d uselmed !
6And now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I shall speak to you either in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophecy, or in teaching?
7A d-nefk lemtel n dduzan n lmusiqa am tjewwaqt d snitra : ma yella ur yemxalaf ara ṣṣut-nsent, amek ara neɛqel ṣṣut n tjewaqt neɣ win n snitra ?
7Even lifeless things giving a sound, whether pipe or harp, if they give not distinction to the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
8Neɣ daɣen m'ur neɛqil ara mliḥ ṣṣut n lbuq s wayes i țheggin imnayen iman-nsen ɣer imenɣi, anwa ara iheggin iman-is ɣer umenɣi ?
8For also, if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for war?
9Kunwi daɣen, ma yella tneṭqem-d s tutlayt ur nețwassen ara, amek ara nefhem d acu i d-teqqaṛem ? Am akken tețmeslayem i waḍu !
9Thus also *ye* with the tongue, unless ye give a distinct speech, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye will be speaking to the air.
10Llant aṭas n tutlayin yemxalafen di ddunit, lameɛna sɛant akk lmeɛna.
10There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of undistinguishable sound.
11Ma yella ur fhimeɣ ara tameslayt n walebɛaḍ, ad iliɣ d abeṛṛani ar ɣuṛ-es, nețța daɣen ad yili ɣuṛ-i d abeṛṛani.
11If therefore I do not know the power of the sound, I shall be to him that speaks a barbarian, and he that speaks a barbarian for me.
12Kunwi daɣen, imi tețnadim aț-țesɛum tukciwin i d-yețțak Ṛṛuḥ iqedsen, nadit axiṛ aț-țesɛum ayen ara inefɛen tajmaɛt n Sidi Ṛebbi.
12Thus *ye* also, since ye are desirous of spirits, seek that ye may abound for the edification of the assembly.
13Daymi, win yețmeslayen tutlayt ur netwassen ara ilaq ad issuter i Ṛebbi a s-d-yefk ad yessefhem ayen i d-iqqaṛ.
13Wherefore let him that speaks with a tongue pray that he may interpret.
14Axaṭer ma yella deɛɛuɣ s tutlayt ur nețwassen ara, d ṛṛuḥ-iw i gdeɛɛun ɣer Sidi Ṛebbi mačči d lefhama-inu.
14For if I pray with a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15D acu ara xedmeɣ ihi ? Ad dɛuɣ s ṛṛuḥ, lameɛna ad dɛuɣ daɣen s lefhama-inu ; ad cnuɣ s ṛṛuḥ, ad cnuɣ daɣen s lefhama-inu.
15What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, but I will pray also with the understanding; I will sing with the spirit, but I will sing also with the understanding.
16Axaṭer ma yella tḥemdeḍ Ṛebbi s ṛṛuḥ-ik kan s tutlayt ur nețwassen ara, win yeqqimen gar-awen, ur nessin ara, amek ara d-yini « amin » i yimeslayen-ik, m'ur yefhim ara d acu i d-teqqaṛeḍ ?
16Since otherwise, if thou blessest with [the] spirit, how shall he who fills the place of the simple [Christian] say Amen, at thy giving of thanks, since he does not know what thou sayest?
17Ɣas yimeslayen-ik s wayes i tḥemdeḍ Ṛebbi gerrzen aṭas, ur nfiɛen ara win ur nefhim ara d acu i d-teqqaṛeḍ.
17For *thou* indeed givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18Ad ḥemdeɣ Ṛebbi imi țmeslayeɣ tutlayin ur nețwassen ara akteṛ-nwen meṛṛa.
18I thank God I speak in a tongue more than all of you:
19Meɛna di tejmaɛt, axiṛ-iyi a d-iniɣ xemsa yimeslayen yețwafehmen iwakken ad lemden wiyaḍ, wala ɛecṛa alaf imeslayen s tutlayt ur nețwassen ara.
19but in [the] assembly I desire to speak five words with my understanding, that I may instruct others also, [rather] than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20Ay atmaten, ur țțilit ara am arrac m'ara tmeyyzem ɣef kra, lameɛna sɛut lɛeqliya n imeqqranen ; ma ɣef wayen yeɛnan cceṛ, ilit am arrac.
20Brethren, be not children in [your] minds, but in malice be babes; but in [your] minds be grown [men].
21Atan wayen yuran di tira : Sidi Ṛebbi yenna-d : A d-mmeslayeɣ i wegdud-agi+ seg imawen n ibeṛṛaniyen + s tutlayin nniḍen+ , meɛna ur iyi-d-smeḥsisen ara.+ +
21It is written in the law, By people of other tongues, and by strange lips, will I speak to this people; and neither thus will they hear me, saith the Lord.
22Ihi tutlayin-agi ur nețwassen ara, d licaṛa i wid ur numin ara mačči i wid yumnen ; ma d win i d ițxebbiṛen s ɣuṛ Ṛebbi, d licaṛa i wid yumnen mačči i wid ur numin ara.
22So that tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to unbelievers; but prophecy, not to unbelievers, but to those who believe.
23Ma yella nnejmaɛen imasiḥiyen meṛṛa deg yiwen wemkan, bdan țḥemmiden akk Sidi Ṛebbi s tutlayin ur nețwassen ara, ma kecmen-d yemdanen ur nessin ara ayagi neɣ wid ur numin ara s Lmasiḥ, eɛni ur d-qqaṛen ara tedrewcem ?
23If therefore the whole assembly come together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and simple [persons] enter in, or unbelievers, will not they say ye are mad?
24Meɛna ma yella țxebbiṛen-d akk s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi, ma ikcem-ed win ur numin ara neɣ win ur nessin ara, a d-yawi s lexbaṛ belli d amednub i gella ɣef ddemma n wayen yesla, ad iḥuss deg iman-is belli ad ițțuḥaseb ;
24But if all prophesy, and some unbeliever or simple [person] come in, he is convicted of all, he is judged of all;
25ayen yeffren deg ul-is a d-iban, dɣa ad yeɣli ɣer lqaɛa ɣef wudem, ad yeɛbed Sidi Ṛebbi ad yini : ț-țideț Ṛebbi gar-awen i gella !
25the secrets of his heart are manifested; and thus, falling upon [his] face, he will do homage to God, reporting that God is indeed amongst you.
26D acu ihi i glaqen ay atmaten ? M'ara tennejmaɛem akken tellam : wa a d-yawi ccna, wayeḍ d aselmed, wayeḍ d aweḥḥi, wayeḍ timeslayin ur nețwassen ara, wayeḍ a tent-id issefhem ; kullec ad yețwaxdem i wesnerni n tejmaɛt.
26What is it then, brethren? whenever ye come together, each [of you] has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done to edification.
27Ma llan wid yețmeslayen timeslayin ur nețwassen ara, sin neɣ tlata a d-mmeslayen meɛna yal yiwen s nnuba-s, yerna ilaq ad yili win ara d-yesfehmen ayen i d-qqaṛen.
27If any one speak with a tongue, [let it be] two, or at the most three, and separately, and let one interpret;
28Ma ulac win ara d-yesfehmen, ad ssusmen axiṛ di tejmaɛt, ad mmeslayen deg iman-nsen kan akk-d Sidi Ṛebbi.
28but if there be no interpreter, let him be silent in [the] assembly, and let him speak to himself and to God.
29Ma llan wid i d-ițxebbiṛen s wayen i d-ițțasen s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi, sin neɣ tlata a d-mmeslayen, wiyaḍ ad meyzen ɣef wayen i d-nnan.
29And let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.
30Ma yella gar-awen win iwumi i d-iweḥḥa Sidi Ṛebbi kra, ilaq ad iɛass alamma yessusem win akken yellan yețmeslay.
30But if there be a revelation to another sitting [there], let the first be silent.
31Tzemrem akk a d tețxebbiṛem s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi, meɛna wa deffir wa, iwakken atmaten meṛṛa ad lemden, ad innerni liman-nsen.
31For ye can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all be encouraged.
32Win i d-ițxebbiṛen s ɣuṛ Sidi Ṛebbi yeḥkem deg wayen i d-iqqaṛ,
32And spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.
33axaṭer Sidi Ṛebbi mačči d Ṛebbi n ussexṛeb, meɛna d win iḥemmlen lehna.
33For God is not [a God] of disorder but of peace, as in all the assemblies of the saints.
34Am akken xeddmen di tejmuyaɛ n wid iḍuɛen Sidi Ṛebbi, ilaq tilawin ad ssusment di tejmaɛt, ur ilaq ara a d-grent iman-nsent ; meɛna ad qadṛent tajmaɛt, ad aɣent awal akken i t-id-tenna ccariɛa.
34Let [your] women be silent in the assemblies, for it is not permitted to them to speak; but to be in subjection, as the law also says.
35Ma yella bɣant ad steqsint ɣef wayen ur fhiment ara, ad steqsint irgazen-nsent deg wexxam ; axaṭer ur yessefk ara i tmeṭṭut a d-ger iman-is di tejmaɛt.
35But if they wish to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in assembly.
36Eɛni s ɣuṛ-wen i d-yekka wawal n Ṛebbi ? Neɣ ɣuṛ-wen kan i gella ?
36Did the word of God go out from you, or did it come to you only?
37Ma yella yiwen deg-wen iwala iman-is yețweḥḥi-yas-d Sidi Ṛebbi neɣ yețxebbiṛ-ed s ɣuṛ-es, ilaq ad iɛqel belli ayen akka i wen-d-uriɣ d lameṛ n Sidi Ṛebbi ;
37If any one thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him recognise the things that I write to you, that it is [the] Lord's commandment.
38meɛna ma yella inkeṛ-it, iban belli ur yețwaqbel ara ɣer Sidi Ṛebbi.
38But if any be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39Akka ihi ay atmaten, ssirmet a d-tețxebbiṛem s ɣuṛ Ṛebbi. Ur qeṭṭɛet ara i win yebɣan ad immeslay s tutlayin ur nețwassen ara,
39So that, brethren, desire to prophesy, and do not forbid the speaking with tongues.
40acu kan xḍut i ussexṛeb, xedmet kullec s țțawil.
40But let all things be done comelily and with order.
