Darby's Translation

James

3

1Ay atmaten-iw, ur țnadit ara aț-țuɣalem meṛṛa d wid yesselmaden, axaṭer teẓram belli d nukni s wid yesselmaden, ara yețțuḥasben akteṛ n wiyaḍ,
1Be not many teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive greater judgment.
2axaṭer nɣelleḍ meṛṛa, yal yiwen deg-nneɣ amek i gɣelleḍ. Win ur nɣelleḍ ara deg umeslay-is d amdan ikemlen, ula d lǧețța-s yezmer ad iḥkem deg-s.
2For we all often offend. If any one offend not in word, *he* [is] a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body too.
3Ma yella nerra aleggam deg yimi n uɛewdiw iwakken a ɣ-yaɣ awal, lǧețța-ines meṛṛa txeddem akken nebɣa.
3Behold, we put the bits in the mouths of the horses, that they may obey us, and we turn round their whole bodies.
4Walit daɣen lbabuṛ, ɣas d ameqqran, yețsuḍu deg-s waḍu iǧehden, meɛna s yiwen ujeggu d ameẓyan, lqebṭan-ines issedduy-it ɣer wanda yebɣa.
4Behold also the ships, which are so great, and driven by violent winds, are turned about by a very small rudder, wherever the pleasure of the helmsman will.
5Akken daɣen ula d iles ; ɣas mecṭuḥ deg yiman-is, yețzuxxu s lecɣal imeqqranen. Walit times tamecṭuḥt i gzemren aț-țesseṛɣ tiẓgi tameqqrant.
5Thus also the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. See how little a fire, how large a wood it kindles!
6Iles daɣen ț-țimes, d bab n lbaṭel, yesɛa amkan di lǧețța-nneɣ yerna yessamas akk taṛwiḥt-nneɣ, yesseṛɣay akk tudert-nneɣ s tmes n ǧahennama i seg d-yuɣ aẓar.
6and the tongue [is] fire, the world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set in our members, the defiler of the whole body, and which sets fire to the course of nature, and is set on fire of hell.
7Amdan yezmer ad iḥeṛṛeb yal ṣṣenf n lewḥuc : ama d wid iteddun ɣef ṛebɛa iḍaṛṛen, ama d ifṛax, ama d izerman ama d lewḥuc n lebḥeṛ yerna ț-țideț iɣleb-iten meṛṛa.
7For every species both of beasts and of birds, both of creeping things and of sea animals, is tamed and has been tamed by the human species;
8Ma d iles, ulac amdan i gzemren a t-yeɣleb. Yeččuṛ d ssem ineqqen ; d lehlak ur nesɛi ddwa.
8but the tongue can no one among men tame; [it is] an unsettled evil, full of death-bringing poison.
9Yis i nḥemmed Sidi Ṛebbi baba tneɣ, yis daɣen i nenneɛɛel imdanen i d-ixleq Sidi Ṛebbi ɣer ccbiha-s.
9Therewith bless we the Lord and Father, and therewith curse we men made after [the] likeness of God.
10Seg yimi-agi i d-țeffɣent ddeɛwat n lxiṛ d nneɛlat. Ay atmaten-iw, ur ilaq ara ad yili wakka.
10Out of the same mouth goes forth blessing and cursing. It is not right, my brethren, that these things should be thus.
11Eɛni yezmer yiwen n lɛinseṛ a d-yefk aman ḥlawen akk-d wid ṛẓagen ?
11Does the fountain, out of the same opening, pour forth sweet and bitter?
12Ay atmaten-iw, ulac taneqleț ara d-yefken azemmur, neɣ tara ara d-yefken tibexsisin, lɛinseṛ meṛṛiɣen ur yezmir ara a d-yefk aman yelhan.
12Can, my brethren, a fig produce olives, or a vine figs? Neither [can] salt [water] make sweet water.
13Ma yella yiwen deg-wen yefhem yetɛeqqel, ilaq a t-id-isbeggen s tikli-ines yelhan akk-d lecɣal i gxeddem s tmusni d wannuz.
13Who [is] wise and understanding among you; let him shew out of a good conversation his works in meekness of wisdom;
14Meɛna ma yella ul-nwen yeččuṛ ț-țismin tirẓaganin yerna tebɣam a d-tekkem sennig wiyaḍ ; ur xeddmet ara ccan i yiman-nwen, ur skiddibet ara, ur nekkṛet ara tideț.
14but if ye have bitter emulation and strife in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.
15Lefhama am tagi ur d-tekki ara s ɣuṛ Ṛebbi meɛna d lefhama n ddunit akk-d yemdanen, tekka-d daɣen s ɣuṛ Cciṭan.
15This is not the wisdom which comes down from above, but earthly, natural, devilish.
16Axaṭer anda llant tismin d wemḥizwer, yella ussexṛeb d mkul ccɣel n diri yellan.
16For where emulation and strife [are], there [is] disorder and every evil thing.
17Lefhama n bab igenwan uqbel kullec teṣfa, ț-țamhennit, ț-țuṛẓint, teččuṛ d leḥnana akk-d lecɣal yelhan, ur tesɛi timrurit ur tesɛi sin wudmawen.
17But the wisdom from above first is pure, then peaceful, gentle, yielding, full of mercy and good fruits, unquestioning, unfeigned.
18Imawlan n lehna țeẓẓun s lehna ayen i d-issemɣayen ayen yellan d lḥeqq ɣer Sidi Ṛebbi.
18But [the] fruit of righteousness in peace is sown for them that make peace.
