¹Ary rehefa ren'i Sanbala sy Tobia sy Gasema Arabo mbamin'ny namany fahavalonay fa efa nanao ny manda aho, ka tsy nisy banga intsony teo (kanefa tamin'izany andro izany tsy mbola voalatsako ny lela-vavahady),

¹And it cometh to pass, when it hath been heard by Sanballat, and Tobiah, and by Geshem the Arabian, and by the rest of our enemies, that I have builded the wall, and there hath not been left in it a breach, (also, till that time the doors I had not set up in the gates,)

²dia naniraka ho any amiko Sanbala sy Gasema ka nanao hoe: Avia isika hihaona ao amin'izay vohitra anankiray amin'ny tany lemak'i Ono. Kanjo nikasa hanisy ratsy ahy izy roa lahy.

²that Sanballat sendeth, also Geshem, unto me, saying, `Come and we meet together in the villages, in the valley of Ono;` and they are thinking to do to me evil.

³Dia naniraka olona hankany aminy kosa aho hanao hoe: Asa lehibe no ataoko, ka tsy afa-midina aho; nahoana no hilaozako midina any aminareo ny asa ka hatsahatra?

³And I send unto them messengers, saying, `A great work I am doing, and I am not able to come down; why doth the work cease when I let it alone, and have come down unto you?`

⁴Kanefa mbola naniraka tamiko inefatra araka izany ihany izy; ary izaho kosa dia mbola namaly azy toy izany ihany koa.

⁴and they send unto me, according to this word, four times, and I return them [word] according to this word.

⁵Dia nirahin'i Sanbala fanindiminy ny zatovony hankeo amiko araka izany ihany, nitondra taratasy nivelatra teny an-tànany,

⁵And Sanballat sendeth unto me, according to this word, a fifth time, his servant, and an open letter in his hand;

⁶izay nisy soratra hoe: Efa mahoraka any amin'ny firenena maro izao teny izao, sady lazain'i Gasema hoe: Hianao sy ny Jiosy dia mikasa hikomy, ka izany no anaovanao ny manda, ary araka izany teny izany dia mikasa ho mpanjakany, hono, ianao,

⁶it is written in it, `Among the nations it hath been heard, and Gashmu is saying: Thou and the Jews are thinking to rebel, therefore thou art building the wall, and thou hast been to them for a king — according to these words!

⁷sady efa nanendry ny mpaminany maro hilaza anao any Jerosalema hoe Mpanjaka any Joda; ary ankehitriny dia ho ren'ny mpanjaka izany teny izany; koa avia isika hiara-mihevitra.

⁷And also, prophets thou hast appointed to call for thee in Jerusalem, saying, A king [is] in Judah, and now it is heard by the king according to these words; and now come, and we take counsel together.`

⁸Dia naniraka ho any aminy aho hanao hoe: Tsy marina izany zavatra lazainao izany, fa tao am-ponao ihany no namoronanao izany.

⁸And I send unto him, saying, `It hath not been according to these words that thou art saying, for from thine own heart thou art devising them;`

⁹Fa ta-hampahatahotra anay izy rehetra, ka hoy izy: Ho kivy amin'ny asa izy ka tsy hahatontosa. Koa ankehitriny ampaherezo e ny tanako!

⁹for all of them are making us afraid, saying, `Their hands are too feeble for the work, and it is not done;` and now, strengthen Thou my hands.

¹⁰Ary izaho dia tonga tao an-tranon'i Semaia, zanak'i Delaia, zanak'i Mehetabela, izay nihidy trano tao; dia hoy izy: Andeha isika hiditra ao an-tranon'Andriamanitra ao anatin'ny tempoly, ary aoka harindrintsika ny varavarana, fa ho avy hamono anao izy, eny, ho avy alina hamono anao izy.

¹⁰And I have entered the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabeel — and he is restrained — and he saith, `Let us meet at the house of God, at the inside of the temple, and we shut the doors of the temple, for they are coming in to slay thee — yea, by night they are coming in to slay thee.`

¹¹Fa hoy izaho: Moa ny lehilahy tahaka ahy tokony handositra va? Ary iza no olona tahaka ahy no mahazo miditra ao amin'ny tempoly ka ho velona? Tsy hiditra ao aho.

¹¹And I say, `A man such as I — doth he flee? and who as I, that doth go in unto the temple, and live? — I do not go in.`

¹²Ary hitako fa, indro, tsy Andriamanitra no naniraka azy, fa nilaza izany faminaniana izany hamitahany ahy izy, satria notambazan'i Tobia sy Sanbala.

¹²And I discern, and lo, God hath not sent him, for in the prophecy he hath spoken unto me both Tobiah and Sanballat hired him,

¹³Izany no nanambazany azy, mba hampitahotra ahy hanaovako izany ka hanotako, dia hahazoany teny tatsy hanaratsiany ahy.

¹³so that he [is] an hireling, that I may fear and do so, and I had sinned, and it had been to them for an evil name that they may reproach me.

¹⁴Ry Andriamanitro ô, tsarovy Tobia sy Sanbala araka izany asany izany mbamin'i Noadia mpaminanivavy sy ny mpaminany sasany koa, izay nampitahotra ahy.

¹⁴Be mindful, O my God, of Tobiah, and of Sanballat, according to these his works, and also, of Noadiah the prophetess, and of the rest of the prophets who have been making me afraid.

¹⁵Dia vita tamin'ny roa amby dimam-poloandro ny manda, dia tamin'ny andro faha-dimy amby roa-polo tamin'ny volana Elola.

¹⁵And the wall is completed in the twenty and fifth of Elul, on the fifty and second day;

¹⁶Ary rehefa ren'ny fahavalonay rehetra izany, dia raiki-tahotra ny firenena rehetra manodidina anay, sady hitany fa tsinontsinona izy; ary fantany fa Andriamanitray no nahavitàna izany asa izany.

¹⁶and it cometh to pass, when all our enemies have heard, and all the nations who are round about us see, that they fall greatly in their own eyes, and know that by our God hath this work been done.

¹⁷Ary tamin'izany andro izany ny manan-kaja amin'ny Joda dia nampitondra taratasy maro ho any amin'i Tobia, ary ny avy tamin'i Tobia kosa tonga tany aminy.

¹⁷Also, in those days the freemen of Judah are multiplying their letters going unto Tobiah, and those of Tobiah are coming in unto them;

¹⁸Fa nisy maro tany Joda efa nianiana niray tetika taminy, satria vinanton'i Sekania, zanak'i Ara, izy; ary Johanana zananilahy efa nanambady ny zanakavavin'i Mesolama, zanak'i Berekia.Ary nisy koa teo anatrehako nilaza ny soa nataony ary nilaza ny teniko tany aminy kosa. Ary Tobia kosa nampitondra taratasy hampitahotra ahy.

¹⁸for many in Judah are sworn to him, for he [is] son-in-law to Shechaniah son of Arah, and Jehohanan his son hath taken the daughter of Meshullam son of Berechiah;

¹⁹Ary nisy koa teo anatrehako nilaza ny soa nataony ary nilaza ny teniko tany aminy kosa. Ary Tobia kosa nampitondra taratasy hampitahotra ahy.

¹⁹also, his good deeds they have been saying before me, and my words they have been taking out to him; letters hath Tobiah sent to make me afraid.
