17

1Tsara ny sombi-mofo maina misy fiadanana Noho ny trano feno hena misy fifandirana.
1Better [is] a dry morsel, and rest with it, Than a house full of the sacrifices of strife.
2Ny mpanompo hendry dia hanapaka ny zanaka manao izay mahamenatra Sady hizara lova amin'ny mpirahalahy.
2A wise servant ruleth over a son causing shame, And in the midst of brethren He apportioneth an inheritance.
3Ny memy ho an'ny volafotsy, ary ny fatana fandrendrehana ho an'ny volamena; Fa Jehovah ihany no Mpamantatra ny fo.
3A refining pot [is] for silver, and a furnace for gold, And the trier of hearts [is] Jehovah.
4Ny mpanao ratsy mampandry sofina amin'ny molotra mandainga; Ary ny mpandainga mihaino ny lela mampidi-doza.
4An evil doer is attentive to lips of vanity, Falsehood is giving ear to a mischievous tongue.
5Izay mihomehy ny malahelo manala baraka ny Mpanao azy; Ary izay faly amin'ny fahorian'ny sasany dia tsy maintsy hampijalina.
5Whoso is mocking at the poor Hath reproached his Maker, Whoso is rejoicing at calamity is not acquitted.
6Satroboninahitry ny antitra ny zafiny; Ary voninahitry ny zanaka ny rainy.
6Sons` sons [are] the crown of old men, And the glory of sons [are] their fathers.
7Ny teny jadona tsy tandrifiny halahatry ny adala, Koa mainka fa tsy tokony ho an'ny zanak'andriana ny molotra mandainga.
7Not comely for a fool is a lip of excellency, Much less for a noble a lip of falsehood.
8Ny kolikoly dia toy ny vato soa eo imason'izay mahazo azy, Ka na aiza na aiza alehany dia ambinina ihany.
8A stone of grace [is] the bribe in the eyes of its possessors, Whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
9Izay te-ho be fitiavana dia manaron-keloka; Fa izay mamohafoha teny mampisaraka ny tena mpisakaiza.
9Whoso is covering transgression is seeking love, And whoso is repeating a matter Is separating a familiar friend.

10Rebuke cometh down on the intelligent More than a hundred stripes on a fool.
11Ny maditra dia fatra-pitady ny ratsy, Ka dia iraka lozabe no irahina hamely azy.
11An evil man seeketh only rebellion, And a fierce messenger is sent against him.
12Aleo mifanena amin'ny bera very anaka Toy izay amin'ny adala feno hadalana.
12The meeting of a bereaved bear by a man, And — not a fool in his folly.
13Izay mamaly ratsy ny soa, Ny ratsy tsy hiala ao an-tranony.
13Whoso is returning evil for good, Evil moveth not from his house.
14Ny fiandohan'ny ady dia toy ny manata-drano, Koa ilaozy ny fifandirana, dieny tsy mbola mifandramatra.
14The beginning of contention [is] a letting out of waters, And before it is meddled with leave the strife.
15Izay manamarina ny meloka, na izay manameloka ny marina,Dia samy fahavetavetana eo imason'i Jehovah.
15Whoso is justifying the wicked, And condemning the righteous, Even both of these [are] an abomination to Jehovah.
16Hatao inona re ity vola an-tànan'ny adala? Hamidy fahendrena va? tsy manan-tsaina izy.
16Why [is] this — a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, And a heart there is none?
17Izay tena sakaiza tokoa dia tia amin'ny andro rehetra, Sady miseho ho rahalahy hamonjy amin'ny fahoriana.[Heb. ateraka]
17At all times is the friend loving, And a brother for adversity is born.
18Olona tsy ampy saina izay mifandray tanana Hiantoka eo anatrehan'ny sakaizany.
18A man lacking heart is striking hands, A surety he becometh before his friend.
19Izay tia ady dia tia heloka; Ary izay manao vavahady avo mitady fahasimbana.
19Whoso is loving transgression is loving debate, Whoso is making high his entrance is seeking destruction.
20Izay madi-po tsy hahita soa; Ary izay manana lela mandainga hivarina any amin'ny loza.
20The perverse of heart findeth not good, And the turned in his tongue falleth into evil.
21Izay miteraka adala hahazo alahelo; Ary ny rain'ny adala tsy ho faly.
21Whoso is begetting a fool hath affliction for it, Yea, the father of a fool rejoiceth not.
22Ny fo ravoravo mahasalama tsara; Fa ny fanahy kivy mahamaina ny taolana.
22A rejoicing heart doth good to the body, And a smitten spirit drieth the bone.
23Ny ratsy fanahy mandray kolikoly avy any anaty lamba Ho entiny mamadika ny rariny.
23A bribe from the bosom the wicked taketh, To turn aside the paths of judgment.
24Eo anoloan'ny manan-tsaina ny fahendrena; Fa ny mason'ny adala dia mibirioka any amin'ny faran'ny tany.
24The face of the intelligent [is] to wisdom, And the eyes of a fool — at the end of the earth.
25Ny zanaka adala mampalahelo ny rainy Sady fahoriana mangidy amin'ny reniny niteraka azy.
25A provocation to his father [is] a foolish son, And bitterness to her that bare him.
26Tsy mety raha mampijaly ny marina, Na mamely ny manan-kaja noho ny fahamarinany.[Na: tsy amin'ny rariny]
26Also, to fine the righteous is not good, To smite nobles for uprightness.
27Izay mahafihim-bava no manam-pahalalana; Ary izay mahatsindry fo no manan-tsaina.Na ny adala aza, raha tsy miteny, dia atao ho hendry, Ary izay mahafihim-bava dia toa manan-tsaina.
27One acquainted with knowledge is sparing his words, And the cool of temper [is] a man of understanding.
28Na ny adala aza, raha tsy miteny, dia atao ho hendry, Ary izay mahafihim-bava dia toa manan-tsaina.
28Even a fool keeping silence is reckoned wise, He who is shutting his lips intelligent!
