1അനന്തരം ദാവീദ് യഹോവയോടുഞാന് യെഹൂദ്യനഗരങ്ങളില് ഒന്നിലേക്കു ചെല്ലേണമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. യഹോവ അവനോടുചെല്ലുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. ഞാന് എവിടേക്കു ചെല്ലേണ്ടു എന്നു ദാവീദ് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഹെബ്രോനിലേക്കു എന്നു അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി.
1It happened after this, that David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?” Yahweh said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” He said, “To Hebron.”
2അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് യിസ്രെയേല്ക്കാരത്തി അഹീനോവം, കര്മ്മേല്യന് നാബാലിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായിരുന്ന അബീഗയില് എന്നീ രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരുമായി അവിടേക്കു ചെന്നു.
2So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
3ദാവീദ് തന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ആളുകളെ ഒക്കെയും കുടുംബസഹിതം കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവര് ഹെബ്രോന്യപട്ടണങ്ങളില് പാര്ത്തു.
3David brought up his men who were with him, every man with his household. They lived in the cities of Hebron.
4അപ്പോള് യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാര് വന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു ദാവീദിനെ യെഹൂദാഗൃഹത്തിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു.
4The men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. They told David, saying, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were those who buried Saul.”
5ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികള് ആയിരുന്നു ശൌലിനെ അടക്കംചെയ്തതു എന്നു ദാവീദിന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടി. ദാവീദ്, ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളുടെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുനിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനനായ ശൌലിനോടു ഇങ്ങനെ ദയകാണിച്ചു അവനെ അടക്കം ചെയ്കകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങള് യഹോവയാല് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവര്.
5David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “Blessed are you by Yahweh, that you have shown this kindness to your lord, even to Saul, and have buried him.
6യഹോവ നിങ്ങളോടു ദയയും വിശ്വസ്തതയും കാണിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ; നിങ്ങള് ഈ കാര്യം ചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഞാനും നിങ്ങള്ക്കു നന്മ ചെയ്യും.
6Now may Yahweh show loving kindness and truth to you. I also will reward you for this kindness, because you have done this thing.
7ആകയാല് നിങ്ങള് ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു ശൂരന്മാരായിരിപ്പിന് ; നിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനനായ ശൌല് മരിച്ചുപോയല്ലോ; യെഹൂദാഗൃഹം എന്നെ തങ്ങള്ക്കു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.
7Now therefore let your hands be strong, and be valiant; for Saul your lord is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.”
8എന്നാല് ശൌലിന്റെ സേനാപതിയായ നേരിന്റെ മകന് അബ്നേര് ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബോശെത്തിനെ മഹനയീമിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി,
8Now Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s army, had taken Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;
9അവനെ ഗിലെയാദ്, അശൂരി, യിസ്രെയേല്, എഫ്രയീം, ബെന്യാമീന് എന്നിങ്ങനെ എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്യര്ക്കും രാജാവാക്കി,
9and he made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.
10ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബോശെത്ത് യിസ്രായേലില് രാജാവായപ്പോള് അവന്നു നാല്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു; അവന് രണ്ടു സംവത്സരം വാണു. യെഹൂദാഗൃഹമോ ദാവീദിനോടു ചേര്ന്നുനിന്നു.
10Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.
11ദാവീദ് ഹെബ്രോനില് യെഹൂദാഗൃഹത്തിന്നു രാജാവായിരുന്ന കാലം ഏഴു സംവത്സരവും ആറു മാസവും തന്നേ.
11The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
12നേരിന്റെ മകന് അബ്നേരും ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബേശെത്തിന്റെ ചേവകരും മഹനയീമില്നിന്നു ഗിബെയോനിലേക്കു വന്നു.
12Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13അപ്പോള് സെരൂയയുടെ മകനായ യോവാബും ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവകരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഗിബെയോനിലെ കുളത്തിന്നരികെവെച്ചു അവരെ നേരിട്ടു; അവര് കുളത്തിന്റെ ഇപ്പുറത്തും മറ്റേവര് കുളത്തിന്റെ അപ്പുറത്തും ഇരുന്നു.
13Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met them by the pool of Gibeon; and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.
14അബ്നേര് യോവാബിനോടുബാല്യക്കാര് എഴുന്നേറ്റു നമ്മുടെ മുമ്പാകെ ഒന്നു കളിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
14Abner said to Joab, “Please let the young men arise and play before us!” Joab said, “Let them arise!”
15അങ്ങനെയാകട്ടെ എന്നു യോവാബും പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ബെന്യാമീന്യരുടെയും ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബോശെത്തിന്റെയും ഭാഗത്തുനിന്നു പന്ത്രണ്ടുപേരും ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവകരില് പന്ത്രണ്ടുപേരും എണ്ണമൊത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു തമ്മില് അടുത്തു.
15Then they arose and went over by number: twelve for Benjamin, and for Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
16ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ എതിരാളിയെ മുടിക്കു പിടിച്ചു വിലാപ്പുറത്തു വാള് കുത്തിക്കടത്തി ഒരുമിച്ചു വീണു; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഗിബെയോനിലെ ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ഹെല്ക്കത്ത്-ഹസ്സൂരീം എന്നു പേരായി.
16They each caught his opponent by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together: therefore that place was called Helkath Hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
17അന്നു യുദ്ധം ഏറ്റവും കഠിനമായി, അബ്നേരും യിസ്രായേല്യരും ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവകരോടു തോറ്റുപോയി.
17The battle was very severe that day: and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.
18അവിടെ യോവാബ്, അബീശായി, അസാഹേല് ഇങ്ങനെ സെരൂയയുടെ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അസാഹേല് കാട്ടുകലയെപ്പോലെ ശീഘ്രഗാമി ആയിരുന്നു.
18The three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild gazelle.
19അസാഹേല് അബ്നേരിനെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു; അബ്നേരിനെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതില് വലത്തോട്ടോ ഇടത്തോട്ടോ മാറിയില്ല.
19Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he didn’t turn to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner.
20അബ്നേര് പിറകോട്ടു നോക്കിനീ അസാഹേലോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഅതേ എന്നു അവന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
20Then Abner looked behind him, and said, “Is it you, Asahel?” He answered, “It is I.”
21അബ്നേര് അവനോടുനീ വലത്തോട്ടോ ഇടത്തോട്ടോ തിരിഞ്ഞു, ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തനെ പിടിച്ചു അവന്റെ ആയുധവര്ഗ്ഗം എടുത്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എങ്കിലും അസാഹേലിന്നു അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറുവാന് മനസ്സായില്ല.
21Abner said to him, “Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and grab one of the young men, and take his armor.” But Asahel would not turn aside from following him.
22അബ്നേര് അസാഹേലിനോടുഎന്നെ വിട്ടുപോക; ഞാന് നിന്നെ വെട്ടിവീഴിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? പിന്നെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ യോവാബിന്റെ മുഖത്തു എങ്ങനെ നോക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
22Abner said again to Asahel, “Turn aside from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then should I hold up my face to Joab your brother?”
23എന്നാറെയും വിട്ടുമാറുവാന് അവന്നു മനസ്സായില്ല; അബ്നേര് അവനെ കുന്തംകൊണ്ടു പിറകോട്ടു വയറ്റത്തു കുത്തി; കുന്തം മറുവശത്തു പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവന് അവിടെ തന്നെ വീണു മരിച്ചു. അസാഹേല് മരിച്ചുകിടന്നേടത്തു വന്നവര് ഒക്കെയും നിന്നുപോയി.
23However he refused to turn aside. Therefore Abner with the back end of the spear struck him in the body, so that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place. It happened, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.
24യോവാബും അബീശായിയും അബ്നോരിനെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു; അവര് ഗിബെയോന് മരുഭൂമിയിലെ വഴിയരികെ ഗീഹിന്റെ മുമ്പിലുള്ള അമ്മാക്കുന്നില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് സൂര്യന് അസ്തമിച്ചു.
24But Joab and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they had come to the hill of Ammah, that lies before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.
25ബെന്യാമീന്യര് അബ്നേരിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഒരേ കൂട്ടമായി കൂടി ഒരു കുന്നിന് മുകളില്നിന്നു.
25The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one band, and stood on the top of a hill.
26അപ്പോള് അബ്നേര് യോവാബിനോടുവാള് എന്നും സംഹരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കേണമോ? ഒടുവില് കൈപ്പുണ്ടാകുമെന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ? സഹോരദന്മാരെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതു മതിയാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ജനത്തോടു കല്പിപ്പാന് നീ എത്രത്തോളം താമസിക്കും എന്നു വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു.
26Then Abner called to Joab, and said, “Shall the sword devour forever? Don’t you know that it will be bitterness in the latter end? How long shall it be then, before you ask the people to return from following their brothers?”
27അതിന്നു യോവാബ്ദൈവത്താണ, നീ പറഞ്ഞില്ലെങ്കില് ജനം രാവിലെ തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ പിന്തുടരാതെ മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
27Joab said, “As God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” lives, if you had not spoken, surely then in the morning the people would have gone away, and not each followed his brother.”
28ഉടനെ യോവാബ് കാഹളം ഊതിച്ചു, ജനം ഒക്കെയും നിന്നു, യിസ്രായേലിനെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നില്ല പൊരുതതുമില്ല.
28So Joab blew the trumpet; and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
29അബ്നേരും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും അന്നു രാത്രിമുഴുവനും അരാബയില്കൂടി നടന്നു യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടന്നു ബിത്രോനില്കൂടി ചെന്നു മഹനയീമില് എത്തി.
29Abner and his men went all that night through the Arabah; and they passed over the Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and came to Mahanaim.
30യോവാബും അബ്നേരിനെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതു വിട്ടു മടങ്ങി, ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും ഒന്നിച്ചു കൂട്ടിയപ്പോള് ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവരകരില് പത്തൊമ്പതുപേരും അസാഹേലും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.
30Joab returned from following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David’s servants nineteen men and Asahel.
31എന്നാല് ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവകര് ബെന്യാമീന്യരെയും അബ്നേരിന്റെ ആളുകളെയും തോല്പിക്കയും അവരില് മുന്നൂറ്ററുപതുപേരെ സംഹരിക്കയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
31But the servants of David had struck of Benjamin, and of Abner’s men, so that three hundred sixty men died.
32അസാഹേലിനെ അവര് എടുത്തു ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് അവന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ കല്ലറയില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തു; യോവാബും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും രാത്രി മുഴുവനും നടന്നു പുലര്ച്ചെക്കു ഹെബ്രോനില് എത്തി.
32They took up Asahel, and buried him in the tomb of his father, which was in Bethlehem. Joab and his men went all night, and the day broke on them at Hebron.
