¹യിസ്രായേല്‍രാജാവായി ദാവീദിന്റെ മകനായ ശലോമോന്റെ സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങള്‍.

¹The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:

²ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും പ്രാപിപ്പാനും വിവേകവചനങ്ങളെ ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും

²to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;

³പരിജ്ഞാനം, നീതി, ന്യായം, നേര്‍ എന്നിവെക്കായി പ്രബോധനം ലഭിപ്പാനും

³to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;

⁴അല്പബുദ്ധികള്‍ക്കു സൂക്ഷ്മബുദ്ധിയും ബാലന്നു പരിജ്ഞാനവും വകതിരിവും നലകുവാനും

⁴to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man:

⁵ജ്ഞാനി കേട്ടിട്ടു വിദ്യാഭിവൃദ്ധിപ്രാപിപ്പാനും, ബുദ്ധിമാന്‍ സദുപദേശം സമ്പാദിപ്പാനും

⁵that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:

⁶സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങളും അലങ്കാരവചനങ്ങളും ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ മൊഴികളും കടങ്കഥകളും മനസ്സിലാക്കുവാനും അവ ഉതകുന്നു.

⁶to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.

⁷യഹോവാഭക്തി ജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭമാകുന്നു; ഭോഷന്മാരോ ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും നിരസിക്കുന്നു.

⁷The fear of Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

⁸മകനേ, അപ്പന്റെ പ്രബോധനം കേള്‍ക്ക. അമ്മയുടെ ഉപദേശം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കയുമരുതു;

⁸My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching:

⁹അവ നിന്റെ ശിരസ്സിന്നു അലങ്കാരമാലയും നിന്റെ കഴുത്തിന്നു സരപ്പളിയും ആയിരിക്കും.

⁹for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.

¹⁰മകനേ, പാപികള്‍ നിന്നെ വശീകരിച്ചാല്‍ വഴിപ്പെട്ടുപോകരുതു.

¹¹ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരിക; നാം രക്തത്തിന്നായി പതിയിരിക്ക; നിര്‍ദ്ദോഷിയെ കാരണം കൂടാതെ പിടിപ്പാന്‍ ഒളിച്ചിരിക്ക.

¹¹If they say, “Come with us, Let’s lay in wait for blood; let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;

¹²പാതാളംപോലെ അവരെ ജീവനോടെയും കുഴിയില്‍ ഇറങ്ങുന്നവരെപ്പോലെ അവരെ സര്‍വ്വാംഗമായും വിഴുങ്ങിക്കളക.

¹²let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. , and whole, like those who go down into the pit.

¹³നമുക്കു വലിയേറിയ സമ്പത്തൊക്കെയും കിട്ടും; നമ്മുടെ വീടുകളെ കൊള്ളകൊണ്ടു നിറെക്കാം.

¹³We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with spoil.

¹⁴നിനക്കു ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ സമാംശം കിട്ടും; നമുക്കു എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും സഞ്ചി ഒന്നായിരിക്കും; എന്നിങ്ങനെ അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞാല്‍;

¹⁴You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse.”

¹⁵മകനേ, നീ അവരുടെ വഴിക്കു പോകരുതു; നിന്റെ കാല്‍ അവരുടെ പാതയില്‍ വെക്കയുമരുതു.

¹⁵My son, don’t walk in the way with them. Keep your foot from their path,

¹⁶അവരുടെ കാല്‍ ദോഷം ചെയ്‍വാന്‍ ഔടുന്നു; രക്തം ചൊരിയിപ്പാന്‍ അവര്‍ ബദ്ധപ്പെടുന്നു.

¹⁶for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.

¹⁷പക്ഷി കാണ്‍കെ വലവിരിക്കുന്നതു വ്യര്‍ത്ഥമല്ലോ.

¹⁸അവര്‍ സ്വന്ത രക്തത്തിന്നായി പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; സ്വന്തപ്രാണഹാനിക്കായി ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

¹⁸but these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.

¹⁹ദുരാഗ്രഹികളായ ഏവരുടെയും വഴികള്‍ അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ; അതു അവരുടെ ജീവനെ എടുത്തുകളയുന്നു.

¹⁹So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.

²⁰ജ്ഞാനമായവള്‍ വീഥിയില്‍ ഘോഷിക്കുന്നു; വിശാലസ്ഥലത്തു സ്വരം കേള്‍പ്പിക്കുന്നു.

²⁰Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.

²¹അവള്‍ ആരവമുള്ള തെരുക്കളുടെ തലെക്കല്‍ നിന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നു; നഗരദ്വാരങ്ങളിലും നഗരത്തിന്നകത്തും പ്രസ്താവിക്കുന്നതു

²¹She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:

²²ബുദ്ധിഹീനരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ ബുദ്ധീഹിനതയില്‍ രസിക്കയും പരിഹാസികളേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ പരിഹാസത്തില്‍ സന്തോഷിക്കയും ഭോഷന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തെ വെറുക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു എത്രത്തോളം?

²²“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?

²³എന്റെ ശാസനെക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞുകൊള്‍വിന്‍ ; ഞാന്‍ എന്റെ മനസ്സു നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു പൊഴിച്ചു തരും; എന്റെ വചനങ്ങള്‍ നിങ്ങളെ അറിയിക്കും.

²³Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

²⁴ഞാന്‍ വിളിച്ചിട്ടു നിങ്ങള്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെയും ഞാന്‍ കൈ നീട്ടീട്ടു ആരും കൂട്ടാക്കാതെയും

²⁴Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;

²⁵നിങ്ങള്‍ എന്റെ ആലോചന ഒക്കെയും ത്യജിച്ചുകളകയും എന്റെ ശാസനയെ ഒട്ടും അനുസരിക്കാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു

²⁵but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;

²⁶ഞാനും നിങ്ങളുടെ അനര്‍ത്ഥദിവസത്തില്‍ ചിരിക്കും; നിങ്ങള്‍ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നതു നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഭവിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ പരിഹസിക്കും.

²⁶I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you;

²⁷നിങ്ങള്‍ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നതു നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു കൊടുങ്കാറ്റുപോലെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ആപത്തു ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റുപോലെയും വരുമ്പോള്‍, കഷ്ടവും സങ്കടവും നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു വരുമ്പോള്‍ തന്നേ.

²⁷when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you.

²⁸അപ്പോള്‍ അവര്‍ എന്നെ വിളിക്കും; ഞാന്‍ ഉത്തരം പറകയില്ല. എന്നെ ജാഗ്രതയോടെ അന്വേഷിക്കും; കണ്ടെത്തുകയുമില്ല.

²⁸Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;

²⁹അവര്‍ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തെ വെറുത്തല്ലോ; യഹോവാഭക്തിയെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തതുമില്ല.

²⁹because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.

³⁰അവര്‍ എന്റെ ആലോചന അനുസരിക്കാതെ എന്റെ ശാസന ഒക്കെയും നിരസിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു

³⁰They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.

³¹അവര്‍ സ്വന്തവഴിയുടെ ഫലം അനുഭവിക്കയും തങ്ങളുടെ ആലോചനകളാല്‍ തൃപ്തി പ്രാപിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

³¹Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.

³²ബുദ്ധിഹീനരുടെ പിന്മാറ്റം അവരെ കൊല്ലും; ഭോഷന്മാരുടെ നിശ്ചിന്ത അവരെ നശിപ്പിക്കും.

³²For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.

³³എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്‍ക്കുന്നവനോ നിര്‍ഭയം വസിക്കയും ദോഷഭയം കൂടാതെ സ്വൈരമായിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

³³But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
