1ജ്ഞാനമുള്ള മകന്‍ അപ്പന്റെ പ്രബോധനഫലം; പരിഹാസിയോ ശാസന കേട്ടനുസരിക്കുന്നില്ല.
1A wise son listens to his father’s instruction, but a scoffer doesn’t listen to rebuke.
2തന്റെ വായുടെ ഫലത്താല്‍ മനുഷ്യന്‍ നന്മ അനുഭവിക്കും; ദ്രോഹികളുടെ ആഗ്രഹമോ സാഹസം തന്നേ.
2By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things; but the unfaithful crave violence.
3വായെ കാത്തുകൊള്ളുന്നവന്‍ പ്രാണനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നു; അധരങ്ങളെ പിളര്‍ക്കുംന്നവന്നോ നാശം ഭവിക്കും.
3He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
4മടിയന്‍ കൊതിച്ചിട്ടും ഒന്നും കിട്ടുന്നില്ല; ഉത്സാഹികളുടെ പ്രാണന്നോ പുഷ്ടിയുണ്ടാകും.
4The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.
5നീതിമാന്‍ ഭോഷകു വെറുക്കുന്നു; ദുഷ്ടനോ ലജ്ജയും നിന്ദയും വരുത്തുന്നു.
5A righteous man hates lies, but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace.
6നീതി സന്മാര്‍ഗ്ഗിയെ കാക്കുന്നു; ദുഷ്ടതയോ പാപിയെ മറിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.
6Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
7ഒന്നും ഇല്ലാഞ്ഞിട്ടും ധനികന്‍ എന്നു നടിക്കുന്നവന്‍ ഉണ്ടു; വളരെ ധനം ഉണ്ടായിട്ടും ദരിദ്രന്‍ എന്നു നടിക്കുന്നവനും ഉണ്ടു;
7There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.
8മനുഷ്യന്റെ ജീവന്നു മറുവില അവന്റെ സമ്പത്തു തന്നേ; ദരിദ്രനോ ഭീഷണിപോലും കേള്‍ക്കേണ്ടിവരുന്നില്ല
8The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.
9നീതിമാന്റെ വെളിച്ചം പ്രകാശിക്കുന്നു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെ വിളക്കോ കെട്ടുപോകും.
9The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.
10അഹങ്കാരംകൊണ്ടു വിവാദംമാത്രം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു; ആലോചന കേള്‍ക്കുന്നവരുടെ പക്കലോ ജ്ഞാനം ഉണ്ടു;
10Pride only breeds quarrels, but with ones who take advice is wisdom.
11അന്യായമായി സമ്പാദിച്ച ധനം കുറഞ്ഞു കുറഞ്ഞു പോകും; അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചു സമ്പാദിക്കുന്നവനോ വര്‍ദ്ധിച്ചു വര്‍ദ്ധിച്ചു വരും.
11Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow.
12ആശാവിളംബനം ഹൃദയത്തെ ക്ഷീണിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഇച്ഛാനിവൃത്തിയോ ജീവവൃക്ഷം തന്നേ.
12Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.
13വചനത്തെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നവന്‍ അതിന്നു ഉത്തരവാദി. കല്പനയെ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നവനോ പ്രതിഫലം പ്രാപിക്കുന്നു.
13Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command will be rewarded.
14ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ഉപദേശം ജീവന്റെ ഉറവാകുന്നു; അതിനാല്‍ മരണത്തിന്റെ കണികളെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോകും.
14The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.
15സല്‍ബുദ്ധിയാല്‍ രഞ്ജനയുണ്ടാകുന്നു; ദ്രോഹിയുടെ വഴിയോ ദുര്‍ഘടം.
15Good understanding wins favor; but the way of the unfaithful is hard.
16സൂക്ഷ്മബുദ്ധിയുള്ള ഏവനും പരിജ്ഞാനത്തോടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നു; ഭോഷനോ തന്റെ ഭോഷത്വം വിടര്‍ത്തു കാണിക്കുന്നു.
16Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.
17ദുഷ്ടദൂതന്‍ ദോഷത്തില്‍ അകപ്പെടുന്നു; വിശ്വസ്തനായ സ്ഥാനാപതിയോ സുഖം നലകുന്നു.
17A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.
18പ്രബോധനം ത്യജിക്കുന്നവന്നു ദാരിദ്ര്യവും ലജ്ജയും വരും. ശാസനക്കുട്ടാക്കുന്നവനോ ബഹുമാനം ലഭിക്കും.
18Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, but he who heeds correction shall be honored.
19ഇച്ഛാനിവൃത്തി മനസ്സിന്നു മധുരമാകുന്നു; ദോഷം വിട്ടകലുന്നതോ ഭോഷന്മാര്‍ക്കും വെറുപ്പു.
19Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.
20ജ്ഞാനികളോടുകൂടെ നടക്ക; നീയും ജ്ഞാനിയാകും; ഭോഷന്മാര്‍ക്കും കൂട്ടാളിയായവനോ വ്യസനിക്കേണ്ടിവരും.
20One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
21ദോഷം പാപികളെ പിന്തുടരുന്നു; നീതിമാന്മാര്‍ക്കോ നന്മ പ്രതിഫലമായി വരും.
21Misfortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous.
22ഗുണവാന്‍ മക്കളുടെ മക്കള്‍ക്കു അവകാശം വെച്ചേക്കുന്നു; പാപിയുടെ സമ്പത്തോ നീതിമാന്നു വേണ്ടി സംഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
22A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.
23സാധുക്കളുടെ കൃഷി വളരെ ആഹാരം നലകുന്നു; എന്നാല്‍ അന്യായം ചെയ്തിട്ടു നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നവരും ഉണ്ടു.
23An abundance of food is in poor people’s fields, but injustice sweeps it away.
24വടി ഉപയോഗിക്കാത്തവന്‍ തന്റെ മകനെ പകെക്കുന്നു; അവനെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവനോ ചെറുപ്പത്തിലേ അവനെ ശിക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.
24One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves him is careful to discipline him.
25നീതിമാന്‍ വേണ്ടുവോളം ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെ വയറോ വിശന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കും.
25The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
