1അനവധിസമ്പത്തിലും സല്‍കീര്‍ത്തിയും വെള്ളിയിലും പൊന്നിലും കൃപയും നല്ലതു.
1A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.
2ധനവാനും ദരിദ്രനും തമ്മില്‍ കാണുന്നു; അവരെ ഒക്കെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയവന്‍ യഹോവ തന്നേ.
2The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.
3വിവേകമുള്ളവന്‍ അനര്‍ത്ഥം കണ്ടു ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു; അല്പബുദ്ധികളോ നേരെ ചെന്നു ചേതപ്പെടുന്നു.
3A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
4താഴ്മെക്കും യഹോവഭക്തിക്കും ഉള്ള പ്രതിഫലം ധനവും മാനവും ജീവനും ആകുന്നു.
4The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life.
5വക്രന്റെ വഴിയില്‍ മുള്ളും കുടുക്കും ഉണ്ടു; തന്റെ പ്രാണനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന്‍ അവയോടു അകന്നിരിക്കട്ടെ.
5Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.
6ബാലന്‍ നടക്കേണ്ടുന്ന വഴിയില്‍ അവനെ അഭ്യസിപ്പിക്ക; അവന്‍ വൃദ്ധനായാലും അതു വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.
6Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
7ധനവാന്‍ ദരിദ്രന്മാരെ ഭരിക്കുന്നു; കടം മേടിക്കുന്നവന്‍ കടം കൊടുക്കുന്നവന്നു ദാസന്‍ .
7The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.
8നീതികേടു വിതെക്കുന്നവന്‍ ആപത്തു കൊയ്യും; അവന്റെ കോപത്തിന്റെ വടി ഇല്ലാതെയാകും.
8He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
9ദയാകടാക്ഷമുള്ളവന്‍ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെടും; അവന്‍ തന്റെ ആഹാരത്തില്‍നിന്നു അഗതിക്കു കൊടുക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.
9He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.
10പരിഹാസിയെ നീക്കിക്കളക; അപ്പോള്‍ പിണക്കം പോയ്ക്കൊള്ളും; കലഹവും നിന്ദയും നിന്നുപോകും.
10Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
11ഹൃദയശുദ്ധി ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവന്നു അധരലാവണ്യം ഉണ്ടു; രാജാവു അവന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന്‍ .
11He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king’s friend.
12യഹോവയുടെ കണ്ണു പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവനെ കാക്കുന്നു; ദ്രോഹികളുടെ വാക്കോ അവന്‍ മറിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.
12The eyes of Yahweh watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13വെളിയില്‍ സിംഹം ഉണ്ടു, വീഥിയില്‍ എനിക്കു ജീവഹാനി വരും എന്നു മടിയന്‍ പറയുന്നു.
13The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”
14പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ വായ് ആഴമുള്ള കുഴി ആകുന്നു; യഹോവയാല്‍ ത്യജിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന്‍ അതില്‍ വീഴും.
14The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Yahweh’s wrath will fall into it.
15ബാലന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തോടു ഭോഷത്വം പറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ശിക്ഷെക്കുള്ള വടി അതിനെ അവനില്‍ നിന്നു അകറ്റിക്കളയും.
15Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
16ആദായം ഉണ്ടാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എളിയവനെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നവനും ധനവാന്നു കൊടുക്കുന്നവനും മുട്ടുള്ളവനായ്തീരും.
16Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
17ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ ചെവിചായിച്ചു കേള്‍ക്കുക; എന്റെ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്നു മനസ്സുവെക്കുക.
17Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.
18അവയെ നിന്റെ ഉള്ളില്‍ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നതും നിന്റെ അധരങ്ങളില്‍ അവ ഒക്കെയും ഉറെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതും മനോഹരം.
18For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
19നിന്റെ ആശ്രയം യഹോവയില്‍ ആയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന്‍ ഇന്നു നിന്നോടു, നിന്നോടു തന്നേ, ഉപദേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
19That your trust may be in Yahweh, I teach you today, even you.
20നിന്നെ അയച്ചവര്‍ക്കും നീ നേരുള്ള മറുപടി കൊണ്ടുപോകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിനക്കു നേരുള്ള മറുപടിയുടെ നിശ്ചയം അറിയിച്ചുതരുവാന്‍
20Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
21ആലോചനയും പരിജ്ഞാനവും അടങ്ങിയ സാരസംഗതികളെ ഞാന്‍ നിനക്കു എഴുതീട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
21To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
22എളിയവനോടു അവന്‍ എളിയവനാകകൊണ്ടു കവര്‍ച്ച ചെയ്യരുതു; അരിഷ്ടനെ പടിവാതില്‍ക്കല്‍വെച്ചു പീഡിപ്പിക്കയും അരുതു.
22Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
23യഹോവ അവരുടെ വ്യവഹാരം നടത്തും; അവരെ കൊള്ളയിട്ടവരുടെ ജീവനെ കൊള്ളയിടും.
23for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
24കോപശീലനോടു സഖിത്വമരുതു; ക്രോധമുള്ള മനുഷ്യനോടുകൂടെ നടക്കയും അരുതു.
24Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger:
25നീ അവന്റെ വഴികളെ പഠിപ്പാനും നിന്റെ പ്രാണന്‍ കണിയില്‍ അകപ്പെടുവാനും സംഗതി വരരുതു.
25lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.
26നീ കയ്യടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും കടത്തിന്നു ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും ആയ്പോകരുതു.
26Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
27വീട്ടുവാന്‍ നിനക്കു വകയില്ലാതെ വന്നിട്ടു നിന്റെ കീഴില്‍നിന്നു നിന്റെ മെത്ത എടുത്തുകളവാന്‍ ഇടവരുത്തുന്നതു എന്തിനു?
27If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
28നിന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാര്‍ ഇട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന പണ്ടത്തെ അതിര്‍ നീ മാറ്റരുതു.
28Don’t move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.
29പ്രവൃത്തിയില്‍ സാമര്‍ത്ഥ്യമുള്ള പുരുഷനെ നീ കാണുന്നുവോ? അവന്‍ രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ നിലക്കും; നീചന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ അവന്‍ നില്‍ക്കയില്ല.
29Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
