1നീ അധിപതിയോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ നിന്റെ മുമ്പില്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്നവന്‍ ആരെന്നു കരുതിക്കൊള്‍ക.
1When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you;
2നീ ഭോജനപ്രിയന്‍ ആകുന്നുവെങ്കില്‍ നിന്റെ തൊണ്ടെക്കു ഒരു കത്തി വെച്ചുകൊള്‍ക.
2put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite.
3അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജനങ്ങളെ കൊതിക്കരുതു; അവ വഞ്ചിക്കുന്ന ഭോജനമല്ലോ.
3Don’t be desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food.
4ധനവാനാകേണ്ടതിന്നു പണിപ്പെടരുതു; അതിന്നായുള്ള ബുദ്ധി വിട്ടുകളക.
4Don’t weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.
5നിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടി ധനത്തിന്മേല്‍ പതിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അതു ഇല്ലാതെയായ്പോകുമല്ലോ. കഴുകന്‍ ആകാശത്തേക്കു എന്നപോലെ അതു ചിറകെടുത്തു പറന്നുകളയും.
5Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.
6കണ്ണുകടിയുള്ളവന്റെ അപ്പം തിന്നരുതു; അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജ്യങ്ങളെ ആഗ്രഹിക്കയുമരുതു.
6Don’t eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and don’t crave his delicacies:
7അവന്‍ തന്റെ മനസ്സില്‍ കണകൂ കൂട്ടുന്നതുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; തിന്നു കുടിച്ചുകൊള്‍ക എന്നു അവന്‍ നിന്നോടു പറയും; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയമോ നിനക്കു അനുകൂലമല്ല.
7for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.
8നീ തിന്ന കഷണം ഛര്‍ദ്ദിച്ചുപോകും; നിന്റെ മാധുര്യവാക്കു നഷ്ടമായെന്നും വരും.
8The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, and lose your good words.
9ഭോഷന്‍ കേള്‍ക്കെ നീ സംസാരിക്കരുതു; അവന്‍ നിന്റെ വാക്കുകളുടെ ജ്ഞാനത്തെ നിരസിച്ചുകളയും.
9Don’t speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.
10പണ്ടേയുള്ള അതിര്‍ നീക്കരുതു; അനാഥന്മാരുടെ നിലം ആക്രമിക്കയുമരുതു.
10Don’t move the ancient boundary stone. Don’t encroach on the fields of the fatherless:
11അവരുടെ പ്രതികാരകന്‍ ബലവാനല്ലോ; അവര്‍ക്കും നിന്നോടുള്ള വ്യവഹാരം അവന്‍ നടത്തും.
11for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.
12നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പ്രബോധനത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ചെവി പരിജ്ഞാനവചനങ്ങള്‍ക്കും സമര്‍പ്പിക്ക.
12Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge.
13ബാലന്നു ശിക്ഷ കൊടുക്കാതിരിക്കരുതു; വടികൊണ്ടു അടിച്ചാല്‍ അവന്‍ ചത്തുപോകയില്ല.
13Don’t withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.
14വടികൊണ്ടു അവനെ അടിക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ നീ അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെ പാതാളത്തില്‍നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും.
14Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. .
15മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ജ്ഞാനത്തെ പഠിച്ചാല്‍ എന്റെ ഹൃദയവും സന്തോഷിക്കും.
15My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine:
16നിന്റെ അധരം നേര്‍ സംസാരിച്ചാല്‍ എന്റെ അന്തരംഗങ്ങള്‍ ആനന്ദിക്കും.
16yes, my heart will rejoice, when your lips speak what is right.
17നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പാപികളോടു അസൂയപ്പെടരുതു; നീ എല്ലായ്പോഴും യഹോവഭക്തിയോടിരിക്ക.
17Don’t let your heart envy sinners; but rather fear Yahweh all the day long.
18ഒരു പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും നിശ്ചയം; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശെക്കു ഭംഗം വരികയുമില്ല.
18Indeed surely there is a future hope, and your hope will not be cut off.
19മകനേ, കേട്ടു ജ്ഞാനം പഠിക്ക; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ നേര്‍വഴിയില്‍ നടത്തിക്കൊള്‍ക.
19Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path!
20നീ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും മാംസഭോജനപ്രിയരുടെ ഇടയിലും ഇരിക്കരുതു.
20Don’t be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat:
21കുടിയനും അതിഭക്ഷകനും ദരിദ്രരായ്തീരും; നിദ്രാലുത്വം പഴന്തുണി ഉടുക്കുമാറാക്കും.
21for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
22നിന്നെ ജനിപ്പിച്ച അപ്പന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്‍ക്ക; നിന്റെ അമ്മ വൃദ്ധയായിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അവളെ നിന്ദിക്കരുതു.
22Listen to your father who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old.
23നീ സത്യം വില്‍ക്കയല്ല വാങ്ങുയത്രേ വേണ്ടതു; ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും വിവേകവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.
23Buy the truth, and don’t sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.
24നീതിമാന്റെ അപ്പന്‍ ഏറ്റവും ആനന്ദിക്കും; ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജനകന്‍ അവനില്‍ സന്തോഷിക്കും.
24The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.
25നിന്റെ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര്‍ സന്തോഷിക്കട്ടെ; നിന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവള്‍ ആനന്ദിക്കട്ടെ.
25Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice!
26മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം എനിക്കു തരിക; എന്റെ വഴി നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു ഇമ്പമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.
26My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways.
27വേശ്യാസ്ത്രീ ആഴമുള്ള കുഴിയും പരസ്ത്രീ ഇടുക്കമുള്ള കിണറും ആകുന്നു.
27For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well.
28അവള്‍ പിടിച്ചുപറിക്കാരനെപ്പോലെ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; മനുഷ്യരില്‍ ദ്രോഹികളെ വര്‍ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
28Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men.
29ആര്‍ക്കും കഷ്ടം, ആര്‍ക്കും സങ്കടം, ആര്‍ക്കും കലഹം? ആര്‍ക്കും ആവലാതി, ആര്‍ക്കും അനാവശ്യമായ മുറിവുകള്‍, ആര്‍ക്കും കണ്‍ചുവപ്പു?
29Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നേരം വൈകിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കും മദ്യം രുചിനോക്കുവാന്‍ പോകുന്നവര്‍ക്കും തന്നേ.
30Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine.
31വീഞ്ഞു ചുവന്നു പാത്രത്തില്‍ തിളങ്ങുന്നതും രസമായി ഇറക്കുന്നതും നീ നോക്കരുതു.
31Don’t look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.
32ഒടുക്കം അതു സര്‍പ്പംപോലെ കടിക്കും; അണലിപോലെ കൊത്തും.
32In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper.
33നിന്റെ കണ്ണു പരസ്ത്രീകളെ നോക്കും; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം വക്രത പറയും.
33Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.
34നീ നടുക്കടലില്‍ ശയിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും പാമരത്തിന്റെ മുകളില്‍ ഉറങ്ങുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും ആകും.
34Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:
35അവര്‍ എന്നെ അടിച്ചു എനിക്കു നൊന്തില്ല; അവര്‍ എന്നെ തല്ലി, ഞാന്‍ അറിഞ്ഞതുമില്ല. ഞാന്‍ എപ്പോള്‍ ഉണരും? ഞാന്‍ ഇനിയും അതു തന്നേ തേടും എന്നു നീ പറയും.
35“They hit me, and I was not hurt! They beat me, and I don’t feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another.”
