1आता, मूर्तिंना अर्पण केलेल्या गोष्टीविषयी: आम्हाला माहीत आहे की, “आम्हा सर्वांना ज्ञान आहे.” ज्ञान लोकांना गर्वाने फुगविते. परंतु प्रीति लोकांना बलवान होत जाण्यास मदत करते.
1And concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that we all have knowledge: knowledge puffeth up, but love buildeth up;
2जर एखाद्याला वाटत असेल की, त्याला काही माहीत आहे, तर जसे त्याला कळायला पाहिजे तसे त्याला माहीत नसते.
2and if any one doth think to know anything, he hath not yet known anything according as it behoveth [him] to know;
3पण जर कोणी देवावर प्रीति करतो तर देवाला तो माहीत असतो.
3and if any one doth love God, this one hath been known by Him.
4म्हणून मूर्तिला वाहिलेल्या अन्राविषयी आपल्याला माहीत आहे की, “जगामध्ये खरी मूर्तिच नाही.” आणि त्या एकाशिवाय दुसरा देव नाही.
4Concerning the eating then of the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except one;
5आणि जरी लोक त्यांना देव म्हणतात, तरी असे अनेक तथाकथित देव आहेत जे स्वर्गात किंवा पृथ्वीवर आहेत (आणि पुष्कळ देव व पुष्कळ प्रभु आहेत)
5for even if there are those called gods, whether in heaven, whether upon earth — as there are gods many and lords many —
6परंतु आमच्यासाठी फक्त एकच देव जो पिता तो आहे. आणि ज्याच्यासाठी आपण जगतो आणि ज्याच्यापासून सर्व गोष्टी येतात आणि फक्त एकच प्रभु येशू ख्रिस्त आहे. ज्याच्याद्वारे सर्व गोष्टी अस्तित्वात येतात व ज्याच्याद्वारे आपण जगतो.
6yet to us [is] one God, the Father, of whom [are] the all things, and we to Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom [are] the all things, and we through Him;
7पण प्रत्येकाला हे ज्ञान नसते. काहींना, ज्यांना आतापर्यंत मूर्तीची उपासना करण्याची सक्य होती ते असे मांस खातात व असा विचार करतात ते मूर्तीला वाहिलेले होते. आणि त्यांची सद्सद्विवेकबुद्धि दुर्बल असल्याने त्यांच्या कृत्यांना डागाळलेली आहे.
7but not in all men [is] the knowledge, and certain with conscience of the idol, till now, as a thing sacrificed to an idol do eat [it], and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
8परंतु अन्र आपणाला देवाजवळ आणणार नाही. जर आम्ही खाल्ले नाही तर वाईट होणार नाही किंवा खाल्ले तर अधिक चांगले होणार नाही.
8But victuals do not commend us to God, for neither if we may eat are we in advance; nor if we may not eat, are we behind;
9तुमचा हा अधिकार जे दुर्बल आहोत त्यांच्यासाठी अपराध तर नाही याकडे लक्ष द्या.
9but see, lest this privilege of yours may become a stumbling-block to the infirm,
10कारण तू जो या गोष्टीचे ज्ञान असलेला त्या तुला दुर्बल बुद्धिच्या कोणी मूर्तिच्या मंदिरात जेवताना पाहिले, तर तो दुर्बल असून त्याची विवेकबुद्धि आत्यंतिक प्रबळ झाल्याने मूर्तीला वाहिलेले मांस खाण्यास त्याला उत्तेजन मिळणार नाही काय?
10for if any one may see thee that hast knowledge in an idol`s temple reclining at meat — shall not his conscience — he being infirm — be emboldened to eat the things sacrificed to idols,
11तो जो दुर्बल आहे, त्या तुझ्या भावासाठी ख्रिस्त मरण पावला त्याचा तुझ्या ज्ञानामुळे नाश होतो.
11and the brother who is infirm shall perish by thy knowledge, because of whom Christ died?
12आणि अशा प्रकारे तुझ्या बंधूविरुद्ध पाप करुन आणि त्याच्या दुर्बल विवेकबुध्दीला जखम करुन तुम्ही ख्रिस्ताविरुद्ध पाप करता.
12and thus sinning in regard to the brethren, and smiting their weak conscience — in regard to Christ ye sin;
13म्हणून अन्र जर माझ्या बंधूना पाप करायला लावते तर मी कधीही मांस खाणार नाही. यासाठी की माझ्या बंधूने पाप करु नये.
13wherefore, if victuals cause my brother to stumble, I may eat no flesh — to the age — that my brother I may not cause to stumble.
