1सर्वांत प्रथम मी कळकळीने विनंति करतो की, मागण्या, प्रार्थना, विनंत्या व आभारप्रदर्शन सर्व माणसांच्या वतीने करावे.
1I exhort, then, first of all, there be made supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, for all men:
2आणि विशेषत: राजांच्या वतीने करावे आणि अधिकाऱ्याच्या वतीने करावे. प्रार्थना करा की, आम्हांला स्थिर, शांत आणि देवाच्या पूर्ण भक्तीत सन्मानाने जगता यावे.
2for kings, and all who are in authority, that a quiet and peaceable life we may lead in all piety and gravity,
3हे आपला तारणारा देव याच्या दृष्टीने चांगले व स्वीकार करण्यास योग्य आहे,
3for this [is] right and acceptable before God our Saviour,
4ज्याला सर्व लोकांचे तारण व्हावे आणि त्यांना सत्य समजावे असे वाटते.
4who doth will all men to be saved, and to come to the full knowledge of the truth;
5कारण फक्त एकच देव आहे. आणि देव व मनुष्य यांच्यामध्ये एकच मध्यस्थ आहे: तो म्हणजे ख्रिस्त येशू जो स्वत:मनुष्य होता.
5for one [is] God, one also [is] mediator of God and of men, the man Christ Jesus,
6सर्व लोकांच्या पापांची खंडणी म्हणून त्याने स्वत:ला दिले. अशा प्रकारे देवाच्या योजनेविषयी त्याने योग्य वेळी साक्षा दिली.
6who did give himself a ransom for all — the testimony in its own times —
7आणि या साक्षीचा प्रसार करण्यासाठी मला घोषणा करणारा आणि प्रेषित (मी खरे सांगतो, खोटे सांगत नाही!) असा विदेशी लोकांमध्ये विश्वास आणि सत्याचा शिक्षक म्हणून नेमण्यात आले.
7in regard to which I was set a preacher and apostle — truth I say in Christ, I do not lie — a teacher of nations, in faith and truth.
8म्हणून प्रत्येक ठिकाणी पुरुषांनी प्रार्थना करावी अशी माझी इच्छा आहे. ते प्रार्थना करीत असताना त्यांनी आपले हात उंचवावेत, जे देवाला पवित्र असे आहेत. व असे न रागावता व न भांडण करता करावे.
8I wish, therefore, that men pray in every place, lifting up kind hands, apart from anger and reasoning;
9त्याचप्रमाणे, माझी अशी इच्छा आहे की, स्त्रियांनी स्वत:ला साध्यासुध्या वेशाने, नम्रतेने, मर्यादेने, शोभित करावे. त्यांनी वेगळ्या पद्धतीच्या केसरचना करु नयेत. तसेच सोने, किंवा मोती किंवा महाग कपडे वापरु नयेत.
9in like manner also the women, in becoming apparel, with modesty and sobriety to adorn themselves, not in braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or garments of great price,
10उलट देवासाठी समर्पित जीवन जगणाऱ्या स्त्रियांनी स्वत:ला चांगल्या कृत्यांनी सुशोभित करणे अगदी योग्य आहे.
10but — which becometh women professing godly piety — through good works.
11स्त्रीने शांतपणे, पूर्ण अधीनतेने शिकावे.
11Let a woman in quietness learn in all subjection,
12मी स्त्रीला शिकविण्याची परवानगी देत नाही किंवा पुरुषावर अधिकार गाजवण्यास परवानगी देत नाही. त्याऐवजी तिने शांत राहावे.
12and a woman I do not suffer to teach, nor to rule a husband, but to be in quietness,
13मी असे म्हणतो, कारण प्रथम आदाम निर्माण करण्यात आला.
13for Adam was first formed, then Eve,
14त्यानंतर हवा. आदाम फसविला गेला नाही तर स्त्री फसविली गेली. आणि ती पापात पडली.
14and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, into transgression came,
15परंतु स्त्रिया जर विश्वास, प्रीती, पवित्रता व योग्य आत्मसंयमनात राहिल्या तर बालकाला जन्म देण्यामुळे त्यांचे तारण होईल.
15and she shall be saved through the child-bearing, if they remain in faith, and love, and sanctification, with sobriety.
