¹अन्यायकारक कायदे करणाऱ्यांकडे पाहा घातक निर्णय लिहिणाऱ्या लेखकांकडे पाहा, लोकांना जगणे कठीण होईल असे कायदे ते करतात.

¹Wo [to] those decreeing decrees of iniquity, And writers who have prescribed perverseness.

²ते गरिबांशी न्यायाने वागत नाहीत. गरिबांचे हक्क ते डावलतात. विधवांना व अनाथांना लुबाडण्यास ते लोकांना मुभा देतात.

²To turn aside from judgment the poor, And to take violently away the judgment Of the afflicted of My people, That widows may be their prey, That the fatherless they may spoil.

³कायदे करणाऱ्यांनो, तुम्हाला तुमच्या कृत्याचा जाब द्यावा लागेल, तेव्हा तुम्ही काय सांगाल? दूरच्या देशातून तुमचा विध्वंस येत आहे. तेव्हा मदतीसाठी कोठे धावाल? तुमची धनसंपत्ती तेव्हा उपयोगी पडणार नाही.

³And what do ye at a day of inspection? And at desolation? — from afar it cometh. Near whom do ye flee for help? And where do ye leave your honour?

⁴कैद्याप्रमाणे तुम्हाला वाकावे लागेल, मृताप्रमाणे तुम्हाला जमिनीवर पडावे लागेल. पण एवढ्यानेही भागणार नाही. कारण अजूनही देवाचा राग शांत झाला नसेल. अजूनही देव शिक्षा करण्याच्या तयारीत असेल.

⁴Without Me it hath bowed down In the place of a bound one, And in the place of the slain they fall. With all this not turned back hath His anger, And still His hand is stretched out.

⁵देव म्हणेल, “मी अश्शूरचा उपयोग छडीप्रमाणे करीन. रागाच्या भरात मी अश्शूरकडून इस्राएलला शिक्षा करीन.

⁵Wo [to] Asshur, a rod of Mine anger, And a staff in their hand [is] Mine indignation.

⁶पापे करणाऱ्या लोकांविरूध्द लढण्यासाठी मी अश्शूरला पाठवीन. मला त्या लोकांचा अतिशय राग आला आहे म्हणून मी अश्शूरला त्यांच्यावर चाल करून जाण्याची आज्ञा करीन. अश्शूर त्यांचा पराभव करील व त्यांची सर्व संपत्ती लुटून नेईल. रस्त्यातील कचऱ्याप्रमाणे इस्राएल अश्शूरच्या पायाखाली तुडविला जाईल.

⁶Against a profane nation I send him, And concerning a people of My wrath I charge him, To spoil spoil, and to seize prey, And to make it a treading-place as the clay of out places.

⁷“पण मी अश्शूरचा उपयोग करून घेणार आहे हे त्याला कळत नाही. मी त्याचा साधन म्हणून उपयोग करीन असे त्याच्या लक्षात येत नाही. अश्शूरला फक्त इतर लोकांचा नाश करायचा आहे, खूप राष्ट्रांचा घात करण्याचा त्याचा बेत आहे.

⁷And he — he thinketh not so, And his heart reckoneth not so, For — to destroy [is] in his heart, And to cut off nations not a few.

⁸कदाचित् आपण जिंकलेल्या आणि त्याच्या हुकमतीखाली असलेल्या प्रदेशांच्या राजांचा अश्शूर येथे निर्देश करत असेल. अश्शूर स्वत:शीच म्हणतो, ‘माझे सर्व राजपुत्र राजेच नाहीत का?

⁸For he saith, `Are not my princes altogether kings?

⁹कालनो शहर कर्कमीश शहरासारखे, हमाथ अर्पादसारखे व शोमरोन दमास्कससारखे आहे.

⁹Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?

¹⁰मी त्या दुष्ट राज्यांचा पराभव केला आणि आता मी त्यांच्यावर सत्ता गाजवितो. त्यांच्या पूजेच्या मूर्ती यरूशलेममधील व शोमरोनमधील मूर्तीपेक्षा चांगल्या आहेत.

¹⁰As my hand hath got to the kingdoms of a worthless thing, and their graven images, [Greater] than Jerusalem and than Samaria,

¹¹मी शोमरोनचा व तेथील मूर्तीचा पराभव केला. तसेच मी यरूशलेमचे करीन.”‘

¹¹Do I not — as I have done to Samaria, And to her worthless things, So do to Jerusalem and to her grievous things?

¹²सीयोनचा डोंगर व यरूशलेम यांच्याबाबतीत योजलेल्या गोष्टी माझा परमेश्वर पार पाडील. नंतर तो अश्शूरला शिक्षा करील. अश्शूरचा राजा फार गर्विष्ठ आहे. त्याच्या अहंकारामुळे त्याने अनेक दुष्कृत्ये केली आहेत. म्हणून परमेश्वर त्याला शिक्षा करील.

¹²And it hath come to pass, When the Lord doth fulfil all His work In mount Zion and in Jerusalem, I see concerning the fruit of the greatness Of the heart of the king of Asshur. And concerning the glory of the height of his eyes.

¹³अश्शूरचा राजा म्हणतो, “मी फार सुज्ञ आहे. माझ्या चातुर्याच्या व सामर्थ्याच्या बळावर मी फार मोठ्या गोष्टी केल्या आहेत. मी पुष्कळ राष्ट्रंाना पराभूत केले आहे. मी त्यांची संपत्ती लुटली आणि तेथील लोकांना गुलाम केले. मी फार सामर्थ्यवान आहे.

¹³For he hath said, `By the power of my hand I have wrought, And by my wisdom, for I have been intelligent, And I remove borders of the peoples, And their chief ones I have spoiled, And I put down as a mighty one the inhabitants,

¹⁴पक्ष्याच्या घरट्यातून एखाद्याने सहज अंडी काढून घ्यावीत त्याप्रमाणे माझ्या ह्या दोन हातांनी ह्या सवंर्ाची संपत्ती घेतली आहे. पक्षी नेहमी घरटी व अंडी सोडून जातो. आणि घरट्याचे रक्षण करण्यास कोणीच नसते. तेथे एकही पक्षी चिवचिवाट करायला अथवा पंख व चोच ह्याने टोचा मारायला नसतो. त्यामुळे लोक सहज अंडी काढून घेऊ शकतात. अगदी असेच मी सर्व जगातील माणसांना लुटले. मला थांबविणारा कोणीही नव्हता.”

¹⁴And my hand as to a nest Getteth to the wealth of the peoples, And as a gathering of forsaken eggs All the earth I — I have gathered, And there hath not been one moving wing, Or opening mouth, or whispering.`

¹⁵कुऱ्हाड चालविणाऱ्यापेक्षा, कुऱ्हाड श्रेष्ठ नसते. करवत, कापणाऱ्यापेक्षा श्रेष्ठ व सामर्थ्यवान आहे. एखाद्या माणसाने एखादी काठी उचलून तिने एखाद्याला शिक्षा करावी व त्याबद्दल काठीने स्वत:ला त्या माणसापेक्षा श्रेष्ठ व सामर्थ्यवान समजावे, तसेच हे आहे.

¹⁵— Doth the axe glorify itself Against him who is hewing with it? Doth the saw magnify itself Against him who is shaking it? As a rod waving those lifting it up! As a staff lifting up that which is not wood!

¹⁶अश्शूर स्वत:ला श्रेष्ठ समजतो पण सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर एक भयानक रोग अश्शूरमध्ये पसरवील. ज्याप्रमाणे रोगी माणसाचे वजन घटते, त्याप्रमाणे अश्शूरचे वैभव व सामर्थ्य घटेल. नंतर अश्शूरचे वैभव नष्ट होईल. तो रोग सर्वभक्षक आगीप्रमाणे असेल.

¹⁶Therefore doth the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, Send among his fat ones leanness, And under his honour He kindleth a burning As the burning of a fire.

¹⁷इस्राएलचा प्रकाश (देव) अग्नीप्रमाणे होईल. पवित्र देव ज्वालेप्रमाणे होईल. तण व काटेकुटे प्रथम जाळणाऱ्या आग्रीप्रमाणे तो असेल.

¹⁷And the light of Israel hath been for a fire, And his Holy One for a flame, And it hath burned, and devoured his thorn And his brier in one day.

¹⁸नंतर आग पसरते आणि मोठे वृक्ष, द्राक्षमळे जळून जातात. व सर्वांत शेवटी प्रत्येक गोष्ट जळून नष्ट होते-अगदी माणसेसुध्दा, तसेच तेव्हा होईल आणि अश्शूरचा देवाकडून नाश होईल. अश्शूर कुजणाऱ्या ओंडक्याप्रमाणे होईल.

¹⁸And the honour of his forest, and his fruitful field, From soul even unto flesh He doth consume, And it hath been as the fainting of a standard-bearer.

¹⁹हाताच्या बोटावर मोजण्याइतके वृक्ष जंगलात उभे असतील. लहान मूलही ते मोजू शकेल.

¹⁹And the rest of the trees of his forest [are] few, And a youth doth write them.

²⁰त्यावेळी याकोबचे जे वंशज इस्राएलमध्ये राहत असतील ते त्यांना मारणाऱ्या माणसावर अवलंबून राहणे सोडतील आणि इस्राएलच्या पवित्र परमेश्वरावर मनापासून श्रध्दा ठेवायला शिकतील.

²⁰And it hath come to pass, in that day, The remnant of Israel, And the escaped of the house of Jacob, Do not add any more to lean on its smiter, And have leant on Jehovah, The Holy One of Israel, in truth.

²¹याकोबचे हे राहिलेले वंशज पुन्हा सामर्थ्यशाली देवाला अनुसरतील.

²¹A remnant returneth — a remnant of Jacob, Unto the Mighty God.

²²समुद्रकाठच्या वाळूच्या कणांप्रमाणे तुझे लोक खूप असले तरी त्यातील फक्त थोडेच परमेश्वराकडे परत येतील. ते देवाकडे वळतील पण त्यापूर्वी देशाचा नाश केला जाईल. देवाने घोषित केले आहे की तो देश उध्वस्त करणार आहे. नंतर चांगुलपणा देशात येईल. तो दुथडीभरून वाहाणाऱ्या नदीसारखा असेल.

²²For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, A remnant doth return of it, A consumption determined, Overflowing [with] righteousness.

²³माझा प्रभू, सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर, निश्चित ह्या संपूर्ण प्रदेशाचा नाश घडवून आणील.

²³For a consumption that is determined, The Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, Is making in the midst of all the land.

²⁴माझा प्रभू, सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर म्हणतो, “माझ्या सीयोनवासीयांनो, अश्शूरला घाबरू नका. मिसरने पूर्वी तुम्हाला जसे हरविले होते तसेच अश्शूर तुम्हाला हरवील. जणू काही अश्शूर तुम्हाला काठीने मारील.

²⁴Therefore, thus said the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, `Be not afraid, my people, inhabiting Zion, because of Asshur, With a rod he doth smite thee, And his staff lifteth up against thee, in the way of Egypt.

²⁵पण थोड्या काळात माझा राग शांत होईल. अश्शूरने तुम्हाला दिलेली शिक्षा मला पुरेशी वाटेल.”

²⁵For yet a very little, And the indignation hath been completed, And Mine anger by their wearing out.

²⁶पूर्वी सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वराने मिद्यानला ओरेबाच्या खडकाजवळ हरविले होते, त्याप्रमाणेच परमेश्वर अश्शूरवर हल्ला करून त्याला चाबकाने फोडून काढील. पूर्वी परमेश्वराने मिसरला शिक्षा करताना, आपल्या हातातील दंडाने समुद्र दुभंगून आपल्या लोकांना समुद्रपार केले व मिसरच्या लोकांना बुडविले. अशाच तऱ्हेने परमेश्वर अश्शूरपासून आपल्या लोकांना

²⁶And awaking for him is Jehovah of Hosts, A scourge like the smiting of Midian at the rock Oreb, And his rod [is] over the sea, And he hath lifted it in the way of Egypt.

²⁷अश्शूर तुझ्यावर जी संकटे आणील ती तुला ओझ्याप्रमाणे अथवा जोखंडाप्रमाणे खांद्यावर वाहावी लागतील पण लवकरच ते ओझे उतरविले जाईल. तुझे सामर्थ्य (देव) ते जोखंड मोडून टाकील.

²⁷And it hath come to pass, in that day, Turned is his burden from off thy shoulder, And his yoke from off thy neck, And destroyed hath been the yoke, because of prosperity.

²⁸अश्शूरचे सैन्य अयाथ जवळून (“भग्न अवशेष” जवळून) प्रवेश करील. मिग्रोन (“मळणीची जागा”) तुडवून ते जाईल. मिखमाशात (“गुदामात”) ते आपले अन्नधान्य ठेवील.

²⁸He hath come in against Aiath, He hath passed over into Migron, At Michmash he looketh after his vessels.

²⁹ते ‘उताराच्या’ (माबाराच्या) येथे नदी ओलांडतील, गेबा येथे ते मुक्काम करतील. रामा घाबरून जाईल. शौलच्या गिबातील माणसे पळून जातील.

²⁹They have gone over the passage, Geba they have made a lodging place, Trembled hath Rama, Gibeah of Saul fled.

³⁰बाथ गल्लीम, मोठ्याने ओरड, लईशा, ऐक, अनाथोथ, मला उत्तर दे.

³⁰Cry aloud [with] thy voice, daughter of Gallim, Give attention, Laish! answer her, Anathoth.

³¹मदमेनाचे रहिवासी पळत आहेत. गेबीमचे रहिवासी लपून बसत आहेत.

³¹Fled away hath Madmenah, The inhabitants of the high places have hardened themselves.

³²ह्या दिवशी सैन्य नोब येथे मुक्काम करील आणि यरूशलेममधील टेकडी सीयोन हिच्याविरूध्द लढण्याची तयारी करील.

³²Yet to-day in Nob to remain, Wave its hand doth the mount of the daughter of Zion, The hill of Jerusalem.

³³लक्ष द्या. आपला प्रभू, सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर, प्रचंड वृक्ष (अश्शूर) कापून टाकील. आपल्या सामर्थ्याच्या बळावर देव हे करील. श्रेष्ठ व प्रतिष्ठित लोकांचे महत्व तो कमी करील.

³³Lo, the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, Is lopping a branch with violence, And the high of stature are cut down, And the lofty are become low,

³⁴परमेश्वर त्याच्या कुऱ्हाडीने जंगल तोडील आणि लबानोनमधील प्रचंड वृक्ष (प्रतिष्ठित लोक) कोसळतील.

³⁴And He hath gone round the thickets of the forest with iron, And Lebanon by a mighty one falleth!
