1पूर्वी लोकांनी जबुलून व नफताली या प्रांताना महत्व दिले नाही पण पुढील काळात देव त्या भूमीला श्रेष्ठ बनवील समुद्राजवळील भूमी, यार्देन नदीच्या पलीकडचा प्रदेश व यहुदी सोडून दुसरे जे लोक राहतात तो गालील प्रदेश म्हणजे ही भूमी होय.
1As the former time made light The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, So the latter hath honoured the way of the sea, Beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
2आता तेथील लोक अधोलोका सारख्या अंधकारात दिवस कंठीत आहेत पण ते तेजस्वी प्रकाश पाहतील. पाताळासारख्या अंधकारमय प्रदेशात सध्या ते लोक राहत आहेत पण त्यांना “तेजस्वी प्रकाश” दिसेल.
2The people who are walking in darkness Have seen a great light, Dwellers in a land of death-shade, Light hath shone upon them.
3देवा, तूच राष्ट्राच्या वाढीचे कारण होशील, तेथल्या लोकांना तू सुखी करशील ते लोक त्यांचा आनंद तुझ्याजवळ व्यक्त करतील. सुगीच्या काळातील आनंदासारखा हा आनंद असेल. जेव्हा लोक लढाईतील जिंकलेल्या गोष्टींचा वाटा घेतात तेव्हा होणाऱ्या आनंदाप्रमाणे हा आनंद असेल.
3Thou hast multiplied the nation, Thou hast made great its joy, They have joyed before Thee as the joy in harvest, As [men] rejoice in their apportioning spoil.
4असे का? कारण तू त्यांचा मोठा भार उतरवशील. त्यांच्या पाठीवरील जोखड काढून घेशील, तुझ्या लोकांना शिक्षा करण्यासाठी शत्रू वापरीत असलेली छडी तू काढून घेशील. तू मिद्यानचा पराभव केलास त्या वेळेप्रमाणेच ही स्थिती असेल.
4Because the yoke of its burden, And the staff of its shoulder, the rod of its exactor, Thou hast broken as [in] the day of Midian.
5लढाईत वापरलेला प्रत्येक बूट आणि रक्ताळलेला प्रत्येक गणवेश ह्यांचा नाश होईल. ह्या गोष्टींची होळी केली जाईल.
5For every battle of a warrior [is] with rushing, and raiment rolled in blood, And it hath been for burning — fuel of fire.
6असामान्य बालकाच्या जन्माच्यावेळी ह्या गोष्टी घडतील. देव आम्हाला पुत्र देईल. हा पुत्र लोकांच्या नेतृत्वाची जबाबदारी घेईल. त्याचे नाव असेल “अदभुत सल्लागार, सामर्थ्यशाली देव, चिरंजीव पिता, शांतीचा राजपुत्र.”
6For a Child hath been born to us, A Son hath been given to us, And the princely power is on his shoulder, And He doth call his name Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace.
7त्याच्या राज्यात सामर्थ्य आणि शांती नांदेल. आणि दाविदच्या वंशाच्या ह्या राजाच्या काळात ती वाढतच जाईल. हा राजा सदासर्वकाळ सदाचार आणि प्रामाणिक न्यायबुध्दीने राज्य करील. सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वराला त्याच्या लोकांबद्दल अतिशय प्रेम आहे. ह्या प्रेमापोटीच ह्या सर्व गोष्टी घडून येतील.
7To the increase of the princely power, And of peace, there is no end, On the throne of David, and on his kingdom, To establish it, and to support it, In judgment and in righteousness, Henceforth, even unto the age, The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts doth this.
8याकोबाच्या (इस्त्राएलच्या) लोकांविरूध्द माझ्या परमेश्वराने आज्ञा दिली आहे. ती खरी ठरेल.
8A word hath the Lord sent into Jacob, And it hath fallen in Israel.
9[This verse may not be a part of this translation]
9And the people have known — all of it, Ephraim, and the inhabitant of Samaria, In pride and in greatness of heart, saying,
10“ह्या विटा पडल्या तर आम्ही पुन्हा बांधकाम करू आणि तेही भक्कम दगडांचे, ही लहान झाडे कापली जातील पण आम्ही त्यांच्या जागी उंच व भक्कम असे नवे वृक्ष लावू.”
10`Bricks have fallen, and hewn work we build, Sycamores have been cut down, and cedars we renew.`
11म्हणून परमेश्वर इस्राएलच्याविरूध्द लढण्यासाठी लोकांना समर्थ करील. परमेश्वर रसीनच्या शत्रूंना इस्राएलविरूध्द उठवील.
11And Jehovah setteth the adversaries of Rezin on high above him, And his enemies he joineth together,
12परमेश्वर पूर्वेकडून अरामी लोकांना व पश्चिमेकडून पलिष्ट्यांना आक्रमण करायला लावील. हे शत्रू आपल्या सैन्यबळावर इस्राएलचा पराभव करतील. पण एवढे झाले तरी परमेश्वराचा इस्राएलवरचा राग शांत होणार नाही. परमेश्वर लोकांना आणखी शिक्षा करण्याच्या विचारात असेल.
12Aram from before, and Philistia from behind, And they devour Israel with the whole mouth. With all this not turned back hath His anger, And still His hand is stretched out.
13देवाने लोकांना शिक्षा केली तरी ते पाप करायचे थांबवणार नाहीत. ते देवाला शरण येणार नाहीत. ते सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वराला अनुसरणार नाहीत.
13And the people hath not turned back unto Him who is smiting it, And Jehovah of Hosts they have not sought.
14म्हणून परमेश्वर इस्राएलचे डोके व शेपूट कापून टाकील. एका दिवसात परमेश्वर फांदी व देठ कापून टाकील.
14And Jehovah cutteth off from Israel head and tail, Branch and reed — the same day,
15(इस्राएलचे डोके म्हणजे तेथील वडीलधारी मंडळी व प्रतिष्ठित नेते आणि शेपूट म्हणजे असत्य कथन करणारे तोतये संदेष्टे.)
15Elder, and accepted of face, he [is] the head, Prophet, teacher of falsehood, he [is] the tail.
16लोकांचे नेतृत्व करणारे त्यांना चुकीच्या मार्गाने नेतात आणि त्यांच्या मागून जाणाऱ्या लोकांचा नाश होतो.
16And the eulogists of this people are causing to err, And its eulogised ones are consumed.
17सर्वच लोक पापी आहेत. म्हणून परमेश्वर तरूणांवर प्रसन्न नाही आणि परमेश्वर त्यांच्या विधवांवर व अनाथांवरही दया करणार नाही. ते सर्व देव सांगतो त्याच्या विरूध्द वागतात. ते खोटे बोलतात. त्यामुळे देवाचा क्रोध शमणार नाही. व देव त्यांना शिक्षा करीतच राहील.
17Therefore, over its young men the Lord rejoiceth not, And its orphans, and its widows He pitieth not, For every one [is] profane, and an evil doer, And every mouth is speaking folly. With all this not turned back hath His anger, And still His hand is stretched out.
18कुकर्म हे ठिणगीसारखे असते. प्रथम, ते तण व काटेकुटे जाळते. नंतर रानातील झाडेझुडपे पेट घेतात आणि शेवटी त्याचा वणवा होऊन सगळेच त्याचे भक्ष्य होते.
18For burned as a fire hath wickedness, Brier and thorn it devoureth, And it kindleth in thickets of the forest, And they lift themselves up, an exaltation of smoke!
19सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर रागावला आहे म्हणून सर्व भूमी जाळली जाईल. सर्व माणसेही त्यात जाळली जातील. कोणीही आपल्या भावाला वाचविण्याचा प्रयत्न करणार नाही.
19In the wrath of Jehovah of Hosts Hath the land been consumed, And the people is as fuel of fire; A man on his brother hath no pity,
20माणसे उजवीकडचे काही तरी पकडून खायला बघतील, पण त्यांची भूक भागणार नाही. मग ते डावीकडचे काही तरी खातील पण त्यांची भूक तरीही भागणार नाही. मग प्रत्येक जण वळेल आणि स्वत:चेच शरीर खाईल.
20And cutteth down on the right, and hath been hungry, And he devoureth on the left, And they have not been satisfied, Each the flesh of his own arm they devour.
21(मनश्शे एफ्राईमशी आणि एफ्राईम मनश्शेशी लढेल व नंतर दोघेही युहदाच्या विरोधात उभे राहतील.) परमेश्वर अजूनही इस्राएलवर रागावला आहे. तो तेथील लोकांना शिक्षा करण्याच्या तयारीत आहेत.
21Manasseh — Ephraim, and Ephraim — Manasseh, Together they [are] against Judah, With all this not turned back hath His anger. And still His hand is stretched out!
