¹देवाचा आणि प्रभु येशू ख्रिस्ताचा सेवक, याकोब याजकडून, देवाच्या लोकांचे “बारा वंश” जे जगभर विखुरलेले आहेत त्यांना सलाम!

¹James, of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ a servant, to the Twelve Tribes who are in the dispersion: Hail!

²माझ्या बंधूंनो, ज्या ज्या वेळी तुमच्यावर निरनिराळया परीक्षा येतील तेव्हा तुम्ही स्वत:ला अत्यंत सुदैवी समजा,

²All joy count [it], my brethren, when ye may fall into temptations manifold;

³कारण तुम्हांला माहीत आहे की, तुमच्या विश्वासाच्या परीक्षेमुळे धीर निर्माण होतो.

³knowing that the proof of your faith doth work endurance,

⁴आणि त्या धीराला परिपूर्ण काम करू द्या. यासाठी की तुम्ही प्रौढ, परिपूर्ण व कोणत्याही बाबतीत कमतरता नसलेले असे व्हावे.

⁴and let the endurance have a perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire — in nothing lacking;

⁵म्हणून जर तुमच्यातील कोणी शहाणपणात उणा असेल तर त्याने ते देवाकडे मागावे. जो सर्व लोकांना उदार हस्ते देतो, आणि जो दोष शोधीत नाही, असा देव ते त्याला देईल.

⁵and if any of you do lack wisdom, let him ask from God, who is giving to all liberally, and not reproaching, and it shall be given to him;

⁶पण त्याने विश्वासाने मागितले पाहिजे व संशय धरू नये. कारण जो संशय धरतो तो वाऱ्यामुळे इकडेतिकडे हेलकावणाऱ्या समुद्रातील लाटेसारखा आहे.

⁶and let him ask in faith, nothing doubting, for he who is doubting hath been like a wave of the sea, driven by wind and tossed,

⁷अशा मनुष्यांने असा विचार करू नये की, प्रभूपासून त्याला काही प्राप्त होईल.

⁷for let not that man suppose that he shall receive anything from the Lord —

⁸कारण तो द्विधा आहे आणि तो जे करतो त्या सर्वांत तो अस्थिर आहे.

⁸a two-souled man [is] unstable in all his ways.

⁹गरिबीत असलेल्या बंधूने, देवाने त्याला आध्यात्मिक संपत्ती दिलेली आहे याविषयी अभिमान बाळगावा.

⁹And let the brother who is low rejoice in his exaltation,

¹⁰आणि श्रीमंत बंधूने देवाने त्याला दीनतेत आणले याचा अभिमान बाळगावा. कारण तो एखाद्या रानफुलासारख नाहीसा होतो.

¹⁰and the rich in his becoming low, because as a flower of grass he shall pass away;

¹¹सूर्य त्याच्या प्रखर उष्णतेसह वर येतो आणि झुडपे वाळून जातात. मोहोर गळून पडतो व त्याचा लोभसवाणा पेहराव नाहीसा होतो. त्याचप्रमाणे श्रीमंत मनुष्यदेखील त्याच्या उद्योगात असताना नाहीसा होईल.

¹¹for the sun did rise with the burning heat, and did wither the grass, and the flower of it fell, and the grace of its appearance did perish, so also the rich in his way shall fade away!

¹²धन्य तो पुरूष जो त्याच्या परीक्षेत टिकतो, कारण जेव्हा ती परीक्षा तो उत्तीर्ण होईल, तेव्हा त्याला विजेत्याचा मुगूट मिळेल. तो मुगुट देवाने जे त्याच्यावर प्रेम करतात त्यांना देण्याचे अभिवचन दिले आहे.

¹²Happy the man who doth endure temptation, because, becoming approved, he shall receive the crown of the life, which the Lord did promise to those loving Him.

¹³कोणीही, जेव्हा तो परीक्षेत पडतो, तेव्हा असे म्हणू नये की, “हे संकट देवाने माझ्यावर आणले.” कारण देवाला वाईट गोष्टींचा मोह पडणार नाही आणि तो कोणालाही मोहात पाडत नाही.

¹³Let no one say, being tempted — `From God I am tempted,` for God is not tempted of evil, and Himself doth tempt no one,

¹⁴तर प्रत्येक जण त्याच्या स्वत:च्या इच्छेनुसार मोहात पडतो. तो आकृष्ट केला जातो व मोहात पडतो.

¹⁴and each one is tempted, by his own desires being led away and enticed,

¹⁵मनात वासना निर्माण झाली की, तिच्या पोटी पापाचा जन्म होतो व पापाची जेव्हा पूर्ण वाढ होते तेव्हा ते मरणाला जन्म देते.

¹⁵afterward the desire having conceived, doth give birth to sin, and the sin having been perfected, doth bring forth death.

¹⁶माझ्या प्रिय बंधूंनो, स्वत:ची फसवणूक होऊ देऊ नका.

¹⁶Be not led astray, my brethren beloved;

¹⁷प्रत्येक उत्तम व परिपूर्ण देणगी वरून येते. स्वर्गीय प्रकाश ज्याने निर्माण केला त्या पित्यापासून ती येते. आणि ज्याच्यावर तारांगणाच्या हालचालीचा काहीही परिणाम होत नाही, अशा पित्यापासून ती देणगी येते.

¹⁷every good giving, and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the lights, with whom is no variation, or shadow of turning;

¹⁸सत्याच्या संदेशाद्वारे आपण त्याची मुले व्हावे ही त्याची इच्छा पूर्ण होण्यासाठी आपली निवड केली आहे. पित्याने निर्माण केलेल्या सर्व गोष्टींमध्ये आपण “प्रथम फळ” व्हावे यासाठी त्याने असे केले.

¹⁸having counselled, He did beget us with a word of truth, for our being a certain first-fruit of His creatures.

¹⁹माझ्या प्रिय बंधूंनो, हे लक्षात ठेवा: प्रत्येक मनुष्य ऐकण्यास तत्पर असावा, बोलण्यात सावकाश असावा आणि रागावण्यात मंद असावा.

¹⁹So then, my brethren beloved, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger,

²⁰कारण मनुष्याच्या रागामुळे देव ज्या नीतीमत्त्वाची अपेक्षा करतो ते निर्माण होत नाही.

²⁰for the wrath of a man the righteousness of God doth not work;

²¹म्हणून तुमच्यासभोवतीच्या सर्व अमंगऴ गोष्टींपासून पूर्णपणे स्वत:ची सुटका करून घ्या. आणि जी तुमच्या आत्म्याचे तारण करण्यास समर्थ आहे ती देवाची शिकवण तुमच्या अंत:करणात मुळावलेली आहे ती लीनतेने स्विकारा.

²¹wherefore having put aside all filthiness and superabundance of evil, in meekness be receiving the engrafted word, that is able to save your souls;

²²देवाची शिकवण काय सांगते त्याप्रमाणे नेहमी करा व फक्त ऐकूच नका तर त्याप्रमाणे करा कारण जर तुम्ही फक्त ऐकता तर तुम्ही स्वत:ची फसवणूक करता.

²²and become ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves,

²³जो कोणी देवाचे वचन ऐकतो परंतु त्यानुसार वागत नाही, तो आरशामध्ये आपले नैसर्गिक तोंड पाहणाऱ्यासारखा आहे.

²³because, if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, this one hath been like to a man viewing his natural face in a mirror,

²⁴तो मनुष्या स्वत:कडे लक्षपूर्वक पाहतो. नंतर निघून जातो आणि आपण कसे होतो ते लगेच विसरून जातो.

²⁴for he did view himself, and hath gone away, and immediately he did forget of what kind he was;

²⁵पण देवाचे परिपूर्ण व लोकांना स्वतंत्र बनविणारे जे नियम आहेत, त्यांच्याकडे जो बारकाईने पाहतो, सतत अभ्यास करतो आणि वचन ऐकून ते विसरून न जाता त्यानुसार चालतो, तो मनुष्य जे काही करतो त्यामध्ये आशीर्वादित होईल.

²⁵and he who did look into the perfect law — that of liberty, and did continue there, this one — not a forgetful hearer becoming, but a doer of work — this one shall be happy in his doing.

²⁶जर एखादा मनुष्य स्वत:ला धार्मिक समजतो आणि तरी स्वत:च्या जिभेवर ताबा ठेवीत नाही, तर तो स्वत:ला फसवितो. त्या व्यक्तीची धार्मिकता निरर्थक आहे.

²⁶If any one doth think to be religious among you, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his heart, of this one vain [is] the religion;

²⁷अनाथ व विधवा यांच्या संकटात जो त्यांची काळजी घेतो, व स्वत:ला जगातील बिघडलेल्या वातावरणापासून दूर ठेवतो. अशा मनुष्याची धार्मिकता देवासमोर शुद्ध व निर्दोष ठरते.

²⁷religion pure and undefiled with the God and Father is this, to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation — unspotted to keep himself from the world.
