¹हे यिर्मयाचे संदेश आहेत, यिर्मया हिल्कीयाचा मुलगा होता. तो अनाथोथ शहरातील याजकांच्या कुळातील होता. हे शहर बन्यामीनच्या कुटुंबाच्या मालकीच्या जमिनीवर वसले आहे.

¹Words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, of the priests who [are] in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin,

²योशीया यहूदाचा राजा असताना देवाने यिर्मयाशी बोलायला आरंभ केला. योशीया आमोनचा मुलगा होता. योशीयाच्या कारकिर्दीच्या तेराव्या वर्षापासून देवाने यिर्मयाशी बोलायला सुरवात केली.

²unto whom the word of Jehovah hath been in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign,

³यहूदाचा राजा यहोयाकीम याच्या कारकिर्दीतही परमेश्वर यिर्मयाशी बोलत राहिला. यहोयाकीम हा योशीयाचा मुलगा होय योशीयाचा दुसरा मुलगा सिद्कीया हा यहूदाचा राजा झाल्यावर त्याच्या कारकिर्दीच्या अकरा वर्षे पाच महिने एवढ्या काळापर्यंत परमेश्वर यिर्मयाशी बोलला. सिद्कीयाच्या अकरा वर्षाच्या कारकिर्दीच्या नंतर पाचव्या महिन्यात यरुशलेममधील लोकांना दूर नेऊन हद्दपार केले गेले.

³and it is in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, till the completion of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah, king of Judah, till the removal of Jerusalem in the fifth month.

⁴यिर्मयाला परमेश्वराचा संदेश आला. हा संदेश असा होता.

⁴And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

⁵“तू आईच्या गर्भात जन्म घेण्यापूर्वीपासून मला माहीत होतास. तू जन्माला येण्यापूर्वीच मी तुझी विशेष कामगिरीसाठी निवड केली. राष्ट्रांचा संदेष्टा म्हणून मी तुझी निवड केली.”

⁵`Before I form thee in the belly, I have known thee; and before thou comest forth from the womb I have separated thee, a prophet to nations I have made thee.`

⁶मग यिर्मया म्हणाला, “पण सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वरा, मला कसे बोलावे ते माहीत नाही. मी तर एक लहान बाआलक आहे.”

⁶And I say, `Ah, Lord Jehovah! lo, I have not known — to speak, for I [am] a youth.`

⁷पण परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, “मी लहान बाआलक आहे’ असे म्हणू नकोस. मी तुला पाठवीन तेथे सगळीकडे तुला गेलेच पाहिजे. मी तुला सांगीन ती प्रत्येक गोष्ट तू लोकांना सांगितलीच पाहिजे.

⁷And Jehovah saith unto me, `Do not say, I [am] a youth, for to all to whom I send thee thou goest, and all that I command thee thou speakest.

⁸कोणालाही घाबरु नकोस. मी तुझ्या पाठीशी आहे. मी तुझे रक्षण करीन.” हा परमेश्वराचा संदेश होता.

⁸Be not afraid of their faces, for with thee [am] I to deliver thee, — an affirmation of Jehovah.`

⁹मग परमेश्वराने हात लांब करुन माझ्या तोंडाला स्पर्श केला. मग परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, “यिर्मया, मी माझे शब्द तुझ्या तोंडात घालीत आहे.

⁹And Jehovah putteth forth His hand, and striketh against my mouth, and Jehovah saith unto me, `Lo, I have put my words in thy mouth.

¹⁰खाली ओढण्यासाठी, फाडून टाकण्यासाठी, नष्ट करुन टाकण्यासाठी आणि उलथून टाकण्यासाठी, उभारणी करण्यासाठी आणि नवीन लागवड करण्यासाठी आजपासून मी राष्ट्रे आणि राज्ये तुझ्या ताब्यात देत आहे.”

¹⁰See, I have charged thee this day concerning the nations, and concerning the kingdoms, to pluck up, and to break down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.`

¹¹मला परमेश्वराचा संदेश मिळाला. तो असा होता. “यिर्मया, तुला काय दिसते?” मी परमेश्वराला सांगितले, “मला बदामाच्या झाडापासून केलेली एक काठी दिसते.”

¹¹And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying, `What art thou seeing, Jeremiah?` And I say, `A rod of an almond tree I am seeing.`

¹²परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, “तुला उत्तम दिसत आहे. तुला पाठविलेले माझे शब्द खरे आहेत की नाही हे नक्की करण्यासाठी मी लक्ष ठेवत आहे.”

¹²And Jehovah saith unto me, `Thou hast well seen: for I am watching over My word to do it.`

¹³मग मला पुन्हा परमेश्वराचा संदेश मिळाला तो असा: “यिर्मया, तुला काय दिसते?” मी परमेश्वराला उत्तरादाखल म्हणालो, “मला उकळते पाणी असलेले एक भांडे दिसत आहे. ते उत्तरेकडे कलत आहे.”

¹³And there is a word of Jehovah unto me a second time, saying, `What art thou seeing?` And I say, `A blown pot I am seeing, and its face [is] from the north.`

¹⁴परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, “उत्तरेकडून काहीतरी भयंकर आपत्ती येईल. ती ह्या देशातील सर्व लोकांवर येईल.

¹⁴And Jehovah saith unto me, `From the north is the evil loosed against all inhabitants of the land.

¹⁵काही काळाने मी उत्तरेकडील राज्यातील सर्व लोकांना बोलवीन.” परमेश्वराने ह्या गोष्टी सांगितल्या: “त्या देशातील राजे येतील आणि यरुशलेमच्या वेशीजवळ आपली सिहांसने स्थापन करतील. ते शहराच्या तटबंदीवर हल्ला करतील. ते यहूदातील सर्व शहरांवर चढाई करतील.

¹⁵For, lo, I am calling for all families of the kingdoms of the north, — an affirmation of Jehovah — and they have come, and put each his throne at the opening of the gates of Jerusalem, and by its walls round about, and by all cities of Judah.

¹⁶आणि मी माझ्या लोकांविरुद्ध निकाल घोषित करीन. ते लोक वाईट आहेत. ते माझ्याविरुद्ध फिरले आहेत. म्हणून मी असे करीन माझ्या लोकांनी माझा त्याग केला. त्यांनी दुसऱ्या देवतांना बळी अर्पण केले. त्यांनी स्वत:च्या हातांनी घडविलेल्या मूर्तीची पूजा केली.

¹⁶And I have spoken My judgments with them concerning all their evil, in that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other gods, and bow themselves to the works of their own hands.

¹⁷“यास्तव, यिर्मया, तयार हो, उभा राहा आणि लोकांशी बोल. मी तुला सांगितलेली प्रत्येक गोष्ट तू त्यांना सांग. लोकांना घाबरु नकोस, जर तू त्यांना घाबरलास, तर तू त्यांना घाबरावेस म्हणून मी सबळ कारण काढीन.

¹⁷`And thou, thou dost gird up thy loins, and hast arisen, and spoken unto them all that I command thee: be not affrighted because of them, lest I affright thee before them.

¹⁸माझ्या विषयी म्हणशील तर, आज मी तुला भक्कम शहराप्रमाणे वा लोखंडी खांबाप्रमाणे अथवा जस्ताच्या भिंतीप्रमाणे करीन. तू ह्या भूमीवरच्या सर्वांविरुद्ध यहूदाच्या राजाविरुध्द, यहूदाच्या नेत्यांविरुध्द, तेथील याजकांविरुध्द आणि लोकांविरुद्ध समर्थपणे उभा राहशील.

¹⁸And I, lo, I have given thee this day for a fenced city, and for an iron pillar, and for brazen walls over all the land, to the kings of Judah, to its heads, to its priests, and to the people of the land;

¹⁹ते सर्व लोक तुझ्याविरुद्ध लढतील, पण ते तुझा पराभव करणार नाहीत. का? कारण मी तुझ्याबरोबर आहे. मी तुझे रक्षण करीन.” हा परमेश्वराचा संदेश आहे.

¹⁹and they have fought against thee, and they prevail not against thee; for with thee [am] I, — an affirmation of Jehovah — to deliver thee.
