1येशूने त्याच्या बारा शिष्यांना ह्या गोष्टी सांगण्याचे संपविल्यावर तो तेथून निघाला आणि गालील प्रांतातील गावांमध्ये फिरून शिकवू आणि उपदेश करू लागला.
1And it came to pass, when Jesus ended directing his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2बाप्तिस्मा करणारा योहान तुरूंगात होता. त्याने ख्रिस्त करीत असलेल्या गोष्टीविषयी ऐकले. तेव्हा योहानाने काही शिष्यांना येशूकडे पाठविले.
2And John having heard in the prison the works of the Christ, having sent two of his disciples,
3आणि त्याला विचारले, “जो येणार होता, तो तूच आहेस? किंवा आम्ही दुसऱ्याची वाट पाहावी?”
3said to him, `Art thou He who is coming, or for another do we look?`
4येशूने उत्तर दिले, “जे तुम्ही ऐकता व पाहता ते योहानाला जाऊन सांगा.
4And Jesus answering said to them, `Having gone, declare to John the things that ye hear and see,
5आंधळे पाहू शकतात. पांगळे चालताल. कुष्ठरोगी शुद्ध केले जातात, बहिरे ऐकतात, मेलेले उठविले जातात व गरिबांना सुवार्ता सांगण्यात येते.
5blind receive sight, and lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and deaf hear, dead are raised, and poor have good news proclaimed,
6धन्य तो पुरूष जो माझ्यामुळे अडखळत नाही.”
6and happy is he who may not be stumbled in me.`
7मग ते जात असता येशू योहानाविषयी लोकांशी बोलू लागला, “तुम्ही वैरण प्रदेशात काय पाहायला गेला होता? वाऱ्याने हलविलेला बोरू काय?
7And as they are going, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, `What went ye out to the wilderness to view? — a reed shaken by the wind?
8तुम्ही काय पाहायला गेला होता? तलम वस्त्र घातलेल्या माणसाला पाहायला गेला होता काय? तलम वस्त्र घालणारे राजांच्या राजवाड्यात असतात.
8`But what went ye out to see? — a man clothed in soft garments? lo, those wearing the soft things are in the kings` houses.
9तर मग तुम्ही बाहेर कशाला गेला होतात? संदेष्ट्याला पाहायला काय? होय. मी तुम्हांला सांगतो, आणि संदेष्ट्यांपेक्षा अधिक असा योहान होता.
9`But what went ye out to see? — a prophet? yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet,
10त्याच्याविषयी असे लिहिण्यात आले आहे: ‘पाहा, मी माझ्या दूताला तुझ्यापुढे पाठवितो तो तुझ्यासाठी मार्ग तयार करील.’ मलाखी 3:1
10for this is he of whom it hath been written, Lo, I do send My messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.
11मी तुम्हांला खरे सांगतो की, स्त्रीयांपासून जन्मलेल्यांमध्ये बाप्तिस्मा करणारा योहान याच्यापेक्षा मोठा असा कोणी झाला नाही, तरीही स्वर्गाच्या राज्यात जो अगदी लहान आहे तो त्याच्यापेक्षा मोठा आहे.
11Verily I say to you, there hath not risen, among those born of women, a greater than John the Baptist, but he who is least in the reign of the heavens is greater than he.
12बाप्तिस्मा करणाऱ्या योहानाच्या काळापासून आतापर्यंत लोक स्वर्गाच्या राज्याचा स्वीकार व प्रसार प्रभावीपणे करीत आहेत.
12`And, from the days of John the Baptist till now, the reign of the heavens doth suffer violence, and violent men do take it by force,
13कारण योहानापर्यत सर्व संदेष्टे व नियमशास्त्र यांनी संदेश दिले.
13for all the prophets and the law till John did prophesy,
14आणि जर तुम्ही ते स्वीकारण्यास तयार असाल तर येणारा एलीया तो हाच आहे.
14and if ye are willing to receive [it], he is Elijah who was about to come;
15ज्याला ऐकायला कान आहेत तो ऐको.
15he who is having ears to hear — let him hear.
16“या पिढीला मी कोणती उपमा देऊ? जी बाजारात बसून आपल्या सोबात्यांना हाक मारतात त्यांच्यासारखी ही पिढी आहे.
16`And to what shall I liken this generation? it is like little children in market-places, sitting and calling to their comrades,
17ती म्हणतात, ‘आम्ही तुमच्यासाठी संगीत वाजविले तरी तुम्ही नाचला नाहीत आम्ही विलाप केला तरी तुम्ही ऊर बडवून घेतले नाही.’
17and saying, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance, we lamented to you, and ye did not smite the breast.
18योहान काही न खाता व पिता आला, पण ते म्हणतात ‘त्याला भूत लागले आहे.’
18`For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon;
19इतरांप्रमाणेच मनुष्याचा पुत्र खात पीत आला. लोक म्हणतात, पाहा हा किती खातो? किती पितो? जकातदार व पापी लेकांचा मित्र, परन्तु ज्ञानाची योग्याता त्याच्याद्वारे घडणाऱ्या योग्य गोष्टीमुळे ठरते.”
19the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Lo, a man, a glutton, and a wine-drinker, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners, and wisdom was justified of her children.`
20तेव्हा ज्या नगरांमध्ये त्याने सर्वात जास्त चमत्कार केले होते त्या नगरांतील लोकांनी पश्चात्ताप केला नाही, म्हणून येशूने त्यांना दोष दिला.
20Then began he to reproach the cities in which were done most of his mighty works, because they did not reform.
21“हे खोराजिना, तुझा धिक्कार असो, हे बेथसैदा तुझा धिक्कार असो, कारण तुमच्यामध्ये जी पराक्रमाची कृत्ये करण्यात आली ती जर सोर व सिदोन यांच्यामध्ये केली असती तर त्यांनी त्वरेने पूर्वीच गोणपाट नेसून व अंगाला राख फासून पश्चात्ताप केला असता.
21`Wo to thee, Chorazin! wo to thee, Bethsaida! because, if in Tyre and Sidon had been done the mighty works that were done in you, long ago in sackcloth and ashes they had reformed;
22पण मी तुम्हांला सांगतो की, न्यायाच्या दिवशी सोर व सिदोन यांना तुमच्यापेक्षा अधिक सोपे जाईल.
22but I say to you, to Tyre and Sidon it shall be more tolerable in a day of judgment than for you.
23आणि तु कफर्णहूमा, तू आकाशापर्यंत उंच होशील काय? तू नरकापर्यंत खाली जाशील, कारण जे चमत्कार तुझ्यामध्ये करण्यात आले ते जर सदोमात करण्यात आले असते तर ते शहर आतापर्यत टिकले असते.
23`And thou, Capernaum, which unto the heaven wast exalted, unto hades shalt be brought down, because if in Sodom had been done the mighty works that were done in thee, it had remained unto this day;
24पण मी तुम्हांस सांगतो की, न्यायाच्या दिवशी तुमच्यापेक्षा सदोम नगराला सोपे जाईल.”
24but I say to you, to the land of Sodom it shall be more tolerable in a day of judgment than to thee.`
25मग येशू म्हणाला, “हे पित्या, आकाशाच्या व पृथ्वीच्या प्रभु मी तुझे उपकार मानतो. कारण तू या गोष्टी ज्ञानी व बुद्धिमान लोकांपासून गुप्त ठेवून बालकांना प्रकट केल्या
25At that time Jesus answering said, `I do confess to Thee, Father, Lord of the heavens and of the earth, that thou didst hide these things from wise and understanding ones, and didst reveal them to babes.
26होय पित्या, तू हे केलेस, कारण खरोखर तुला असेच करायचे होते.
26Yes, Father, because so it was good pleasure before Thee.
27माझ्या पित्याने मला सर्व काही दिले आहे. आणि पित्यावाचून कोणी पुत्राला ओळखीत नाही, आणि पुत्रावाचून ज्याला प्रगट करायची पुत्राची इच्छा आहे त्याच्याशिवाय कोणीही पित्याला ओळखीत नाही.
27`All things were delivered to me by my Father, and none doth know the Son, except the Father, nor doth any know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son may wish to reveal [Him].
28जे थकलेले व ओझ्याने लादलेले असे सर्व तुम्ही मजकडे या आणि मी तुम्हांला विश्रांति देईन.
28`Come unto me, all ye labouring and burdened ones, and I will give you rest,
29माझे जू आपणांवर घ्या, माझ्यापासून शिका, म्हणजे तुमच्या आत्म्यास विश्रांति मिळेल.
29take up my yoke upon you, and learn from me, because I am meek and humble in heart, and ye shall find rest to your souls,
30कारण माझे जू सोपे आहे आणि माझे ओझे हलके आहे.”
30for my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.`
