¹त्या दिवशी म्हणजे शब्बाथ दिवशी येशू धान्याच्या शेतातून चालला होता. शेतात पीक उभे होते. येशूच्या शिष्याना भूक लागली होती, म्हणून ते कणसे मोडून खाऊ लागले.

¹At that time did Jesus go on the sabbaths through the corn, and his disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck ears, and to eat,

²जेव्हा परूश्यांनी हे पाहिले, तेव्हा ते येशूला म्हणाले, “पाहा, तुमचे शिष्य शब्बाथ दिवशी जे करू नये ते करीत आहेत.”

²and the Pharisees having seen, said to him, `Lo, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do on a sabbath.`

³तेव्हा त्याने त्यांना म्हटले, “दाविदाला व त्याच्याबरोबरच्या माणसांना भूक लागली तेव्हा त्याने काय केले, हे तुम्ही वाचले आहे काय?

³And he said to them, `Did ye not read what David did, when he was hungry, himself and those with him —

⁴देवाच्या मंदिरात तो गेला आणि त्याने व त्याच्या बरोबर असलेल्या लोकांनी समर्पित केलेल्या भाकरी खाल्ल्या. असे करणे नियमशास्त्रच्या विरूद्ध होते. फक्त याजकांनाच ती भाकर खाण्याची परवागी होती.

⁴how he went into the house of God, and the loaves of the presentation did eat, which it is not lawful to him to eat, nor to those with him, except to the priests alone?

⁵आणि तुम्ही नियमशास्त्र वाचले आहे की, प्रत्येक शब्बाथाच्या दिवशी मंदिरातील याजक मंदिरात शब्बाथ पवित्र पाळण्याविषयीचा नियम मोडीत असत परंतु ते तसे करू शकत असत.

⁵`Or did ye not read in the Law, that on the sabbaths the priests in the temple do profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

⁶मी तुम्हांला सांगतो की, मंदिरापेक्षा महान असा कोणीतरी येथे आहे.

⁶and I say to you, that a greater than the temple is here;

⁷पवित्र शास्त्र म्हणते, मला यज्ञपशूची अर्पणे नकोत, तर मला दया हवी. याचा खरा अर्थ तुम्हांला समजला असता तर तुम्ही या निर्दोष लोकांना दोष लावला नसता.

⁷and if ye had known what is: Kindness I will, and not sacrifice — ye had not condemned the blameless,

⁸कारण मनुष्याचा पुत्र शब्बाथाचा प्रभु आहे.”

⁸for the son of man is lord even of the sabbath.`

⁹येशूने ते ठिकाण सोडले व यहुद्यांच्या सभास्थानात तो गेला.

⁹And having departed thence, he went to their synagogue,

¹⁰सभास्थानात हात वाळलेला एक मनुष्य होता. काही यहूद्यांनी येशूवर काही दोषारोप करता यावा या हेतूने त्याला विचारला, “शब्बाथ दिवशी रोग बरे करणे योग्य आहे काय?”

¹⁰and lo, there was a man having the hand withered, and they questioned him, saying, `Is it lawful to heal on the sabbaths?` that they might accuse him.

¹¹येशूने त्यांना उत्तर दिले, “जर तुमच्यापैकी एखाद्याकडे मेंढरू असले व शब्बाथ दिवशी ते खड्ड्यात पडले, तर तो त्याला वर काढणार नाही काय?

¹¹And he said to them, `What man shall be of you, who shall have one sheep, and if this may fall on the sabbaths into a ditch, will not lay hold on it and raise [it]?

¹²तर मग मनुष्य मेंढरापेक्षा कितीतरी अधिक मौल्यवान आहे. म्हणून नियमशास्त्र लोकांना शब्बाथ दिवशी चांगले करण्याची मोकळीक देते.”

¹²How much better, therefore, is a man than a sheep? — so that it is lawful on the sabbaths to do good.`

¹³मग येशू त्या वाळलेल्या हाताच्या मनुष्याला म्हणाला, “तुझा हात पुढे सरळ कर.” त्या मनुष्याने हात लांब केला व तो हात बरा झाला आणि दुसऱ्या हातासारखाच चांगला झाला.

¹³Then saith he to the man, `Stretch forth thy hand,` and he stretched [it] forth, and it was restored whole as the other.

¹⁴नंतर परूश्यांनी बाहेर जाऊन त्याला कसे मारावे याविषयी मसलत केली.

¹⁴And the Pharisees having gone forth, held a consultation against him, how they might destroy him,

¹⁵परूशी काय करीत आहेत ते येशूला माहीत होते. म्हणून येशू तेथून गेला. पुष्कळ लोक येशूच्या मागे निघाले व त्याने जे कोणी रोगी होते, त्या सर्वाना बरे केले.

¹⁵and Jesus having known, withdrew thence, and there followed him great multitudes, and he healed them all,

¹⁶आणि त्याने त्यांना निक्षून सांगितले की, तो कोण आहे, हे इतरांना सांगू नका.

¹⁶and did charge them that they might not make him manifest,

¹⁷यशया संदेष्ट्याच्या द्वारे जे सांगितले गेले होते ते पूर्ण होण्यासाठी त्याने असे म्हटले.

¹⁷that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

¹⁸“हा माझा सेवक, याला मी निवडले आहे. मी त्याजवर प्रीति करतो, आणि त्याच्याविषयी मला संतोष वाटतो. मी आपला आत्मा त्याच्यावर ठेवीन, आणि तो यहूदीतरांसाठी योग्य न्यायाची घोषणा करील.

¹⁸`Lo, My servant, whom I did choose, My beloved, in whom My soul did delight, I will put My Spirit upon him, and judgment to the nations he shall declare,

¹⁹तो वाद घालणार नाही किंवा ओरडणार नाही, रस्त्यावर लोक त्याचा आवाज ऐकणार नाहीत.

¹⁹he shall not strive nor cry, nor shall any hear in the broad places his voice,

²⁰वाकलेला बोरू तो मोडणार नाही आणि मंदावलेली वात तो विझविणार नाही. योग्य निर्णयाचा विजय होईपर्यंत तो असे करील.

²⁰a bruised reed he shall not break, and smoking flax he shall not quench, till he may put forth judgment to victory,

²¹सर्व लोक त्याच्यावर आशा ठेवतील. यशया 42:1-4

²¹and in his name shall nations hope.`

²²मग काही माणसांनी एकाला येशूकडे आणले. तो मनुष्य आंधळा व मुका होता व त्याच्यामध्ये भूत होते. येशूने त्या माणसाला बरे केले व तो बोलू लागला व पाहू लागला.

²²Then was brought to him a demoniac, blind and dumb, and he healed him, so that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.

²³सर्व लोक चकित झाले, ते म्हणाले, ‘हा दाविदाचा पुत्र असेल काय?’

²³And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, `Is this the Son of David?`

²⁴परूश्यांनी लोकांना हे बोलताना ऐकले. परूशी म्हणाले, ‘भुते काढण्यासाठी येशू बालजबूल सैतानाचे सामार्थ्य वापरतो आणि बालजबूल हा तर भुतांचा प्रमुख आहे.’

²⁴but the Pharisees having heard, said, `This one doth not cast out demons, except by Beelzeboul, ruler of the demons.`

²⁵परूशी कसला विचार करीत आहेत ते येशूला जाणवत होते. म्हणून येशू त्यांना म्हणाला, ‘आपसात लढणारी राज्ये नाश पावतात व फूट पडलेले शहर किंवा घर टिकत नाही.

²⁵And Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them, `Every kingdom having been divided against itself is desolated, and no city or house having been divided against itself, doth stand,

²⁶आणि जर सैतानच सैतानला काढतो तर त्यांच्यात मतभेद आहे, त्यांच्यात फूट आहे मग त्याचे राज्य कसे टिकेल?

²⁶and if the Adversary doth cast out the Adversary, against himself he was divided, how then doth his kingdom stand?

²⁷आणि मी जर बालजबुलाच्या सहाय्याने भुते काढतो तर तुमची मुले कोणाच्या सामर्थ्याने भुते काढतात. म्हणून तुमचे स्वत:चे लोक तुम्हांला चूक ठरवितील.

²⁷`And if I, by Beelzeboul, do cast out the demons, your sons — by whom do they cast out? because of this they — they shall be your judges.

²⁸परंतु मी जर देवाच्या साहाय्याने भुते काढतो तर देवाचे राज्य तुमच्यापर्यंत आले आहे हे निश्र्चित समजा.

²⁸`But if I, by the Spirit of God, do cast out the demons, then come already unto you did the reign of God.

²⁹“किंवा एखाद्या बलवान मनुष्याच्या घरात शिरून, त्याच्या घरातील सर्व वस्तूची चोरी जर कोणाला करायची असेल तर प्रथम त्या बलवान मनुष्याला तो बांधून टाकील व मग तो चोरी करील.

²⁹`Or how is one able to go into the house of the strong man, and to plunder his goods, if first he may not bind the strong man? and then his house he will plunder.

³⁰एखादा मनुष्य जर माझे समर्थन करीत नसेल, तर तो माझ्याविरुद्ध आहे. जो मनुष्य माझ्याबरोबर काम करीत नाही तो माझ्याविरुद्ध काम करीत आहे.

³⁰`He who is not with me is against me, and he who is not gathering with me, doth scatter.

³¹म्हणून मी तुम्हांला सांगतो, मनुष्यांना ते करीत असलेल्या सर्व पापांची क्षमा करण्यात येईल. ते जे काही वाईट बोलतील त्याबद्दलही क्षमा करण्यात येईल पण जर कोणी पवित्र आत्म्याविरूद्ध बोलेल, तर त्याला क्षमा करण्यात येणार नाही.

³¹Because of this I say to you, all sin and evil speaking shall be forgiven to men, but the evil speaking of the Spirit shall not be forgiven to men.

³²एखादा मनुष्य जर मनुष्याच्या पुत्राविरुद्ध काही बोलेल तर त्याला क्षमा करण्यात येईल पण जो कोणी पवित्र आत्म्याविरूद्ध बोलेल त्याला क्षमा होणार नाही. त्याला या काळीही क्षमा होणार नाही व भविष्यातही होणार नाही.

³²And whoever may speak a word against the Son of Man it shall be forgiven to him, but whoever may speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this age, nor in that which is coming.

³³“जर तुम्हांला चांगले फळ हवे असले, तर झाड चांगले करा. जर तुम्ही झाड चांगले करणार नाही. तर फळही चांगले येणार नाही. कारण झाड त्याच्या फळावरून ओळखले जाते.

³³`Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad, for from the fruit is the tree known.

³⁴अहो सापाच्या पिल्लांनो. तुम्ही वाईट असता तुम्हांला चांगल्या गोष्टी कशा बोलता येतील? जे अंत:करणात आहे तेच तोंडावाटे बाहेर पडते.

³⁴`Brood of vipers! how are ye able to speak good things — being evil? for out of the abundance of the heart doth the mouth speak.

³⁵चांगला मनुष्य आपल्या चांगल्या भांडारातून चांगल्या गोष्टी काढतो आणि वाईट माणूस आपल्या वाईट भांडारातून वाईट गोष्टी काढतो.

³⁵The good man out of the good treasure of the heart doth put forth the good things, and the evil man out of the evil treasure doth put forth evil things.

³⁶आणखी मी तुम्हांस सांगतो की. जो प्रत्येक व्यर्थ शब्द लोक बोलतील त्याचा हिशेब ते न्यायाच्या दिवशी देतील.

³⁶`And I say to you, that every idle word that men may speak, they shall give for it a reckoning in a day of judgment;

³⁷कारण तू आपल्या बोलण्यावरून न्यायी ठरशील आणि आपल्या बोलण्यावरूनच दोषी ठरशील.”

³⁷for from thy words thou shalt be declared righteous, and from thy words thou shalt be declared unrighteous.`

³⁸काही नियमशास्त्राचे शिक्षक व परूशी यांच्यापैकी काही जणांनी येशूला म्हटले, “गुरुजी, तुमच्या हातून एखादे चिन्ह पहावे अशी आमची इच्छा आहे.”

³⁸Then answered certain of the scribes and Pharisees, saying, `Teacher, we will to see a sign from thee.`

³⁹येशूने उत्तर दिले, “जे लोक देवाशी प्रामाणीक नाहीत, पापी आहेत असे लोक पुराव्यासाठी चमत्कार पाहू इच्छितात. पण योना संदेष्ट्याशिवाय दुसरे चिन्ह तुम्हांला मिळणार नाही.

³⁹And he answering said to them, `A generation, evil and adulterous, doth seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet;

⁴⁰कारण योना जसा तीन दिवस व तीन रात्री माशाच्या पोटात होता तसा मनुष्याचा पुत्र तीन दिवस व तीन रात्री पृथ्वीच्या पोटात राहील.

⁴⁰for, as Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights, so shall the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

⁴¹जेव्हा तुमच्या पिढीचा न्याय होईल, तेव्हा निनवेचे लोक उभे राहतील, तुमच्याविरूद्ध साक्ष देतील आणि तुम्हांला दोष देतील. कारण त्यांनी योनाच्या उपदेशावरून पश्चात्ताप केला. आणि आता तर तुमच्यामध्ये योनापेक्षा महान असा कोणी एक येथे आहे.

⁴¹`Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for they reformed at the proclamation of Jonah, and lo, a greater than Jonah here!

⁴²न्यायाच्या दिवशी दक्षिणेची राणी या पिढीबरोबर उभी राहून हिला दोषी ठरवील. कारण शलमोनाचे ज्ञान ऐकायला ती पृथ्वीच्या शेवटापासून आली. आणि शलमोनापेक्षा महान असा कोणी येथे आहे.

⁴²`A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and lo, a greater than Solomon here!

⁴³“जेव्हा अशुद्ध आत्मा माणसाला सोडून बाहेर निघून जातो तेव्हा तो पाणी नसलेल्या ठिकाणाहून विसावा शोधीत फिरतो पण तो त्याला मिळत नाही.

⁴³`And, when the unclean spirit may go forth from the man, it doth walk through dry places seeking rest, and doth not find;

⁴⁴तेव्हा तो म्हणतो, जेथून मी आलो त्या माझ्या घरात मी परत जाईन आणि जेव्हा तो परत येतो तेव्हा ते घर रिकामे असलेले तसेच स्वच्छ व नीटनेटके असे त्याला दिसते.

⁴⁴then it saith, I will turn back to my house whence I came forth; and having come, it findeth [it] unoccupied, swept, and adorned:

⁴⁵नंतर तो जाऊन आपल्यापेक्षा वाईट असे दुसरे सात आणखी आत्मे आपल्याबरोबर घेतो व ते आत शिरून त्याला झपाटतात व त्याच्यात राहतात. मग त्या माणसाची शेवटची स्थिति पहिल्यापेक्षा वाईट होते. तसेच आजच्या ह्या पापी पिढीचे होईल.”

⁴⁵then doth it go, and take with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself, and having gone in they dwell there, and the last of that man doth become worse than the first; so shall it be also to this evil generation.`

⁴⁶तो लोकांशी बोलत असता, त्याची आई व त्याचे भाऊ त्याच्याशी बोलण्यासाठी बाहेर वाट पाहट उभे होते.

⁴⁶And while he was yet speaking to the multitudes, lo, his mother and brethren had stood without, seeking to speak to him,

⁴⁷तेव्हा कोणी तरी त्याला म्हणाले, “तुमची आई व भाऊ बाहेर उभे आहेत. ते तुमच्याशी बोलण्याची वाट पाहत आहेत.”

⁴⁷and one said to him, `Lo, thy mother and thy brethren do stand without, seeking to speak to thee.`

⁴⁸त्याच्याशी बोलणाऱ्याला त्याने उत्तर दिले, “कोण माझी आई? कोण माझा भाऊ?”

⁴⁸And he answering said to him who spake to him, `Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?`

⁴⁹मग तो आपल्या शिष्यांकडे हात करून म्हाणाला, “पाहा हे माझे आई व माझे भाऊ आहेत.

⁴⁹And having stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, he said, `Lo, my mother and my brethren!

⁵⁰कारण माझ्या स्वर्गीय पित्याच्या इच्छेनुसार जे वागतात, तेच माझे भाऊ, बहीण आणि आई आहेत.”

⁵⁰for whoever may do the will of my Father who is in the heavens, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.`
