1शहाण्या माणसाला त्याचे वडील काही सांगत असले तर तो लक्षपूर्वक ऐकतो. पण अभिमानी माणूस लोक त्याला योग्य ते सांगायला लागले तर तो ते ऐकत नाही.
1A wise son — the instruction of a father, And a scorner — he hath not heard rebuke.
2चांगल्या माणसांना चांगले बोलल्याबद्दल फळ मिळते. पण दुष्ट माणसांना नेहमी चुकाच करायच्या असतात.
2From the fruit of the mouth a man eateth good, And the soul of the treacherous — violence.
3जो माणूस आपल्या बोलण्याबद्दल काळजी घेतो तो त्याचा जीव वाचवतो. पण जो विचार न करता बोलतो त्याचा नाश होतो.
3Whoso is keeping his mouth, is keeping his soul, Whoso is opening wide his lips — ruin to him!
4आळशी माणसाला गोष्टी हव्या असतात पण त्या त्याला कधीही मिळणार नाहीत. पणे ते खूप कष्ट करतात त्यांना हव्या असलेल्या गोष्टी मिळतील.
4The soul of the slothful is desiring, and hath not. And the soul of the diligent is made fat.
5चांगले लोक खोट्याचा तिरस्कार करतात. दुष्टांना लाज वाटायला लावली जाईल.
5A false word the righteous hateth, And the wicked causeth abhorrence, and is confounded.
6चांगुलपण चांगल्या, इमानी माणसाचे रक्षण करतो. पण ज्या माणसाला पाप करायला आवडते त्याचा दुष्टपणा नाश करतो.
6Righteousness keepeth him who is perfect in the way, And wickedness overthroweth a sin offering.
7काही लोक श्रीमंतीचा आव आणतात पण त्यांच्या जवळ मात्र काहीच नसते. दुसरे लोक आपण गरीब आहोत असे भासवतात पण ते खरोखरच श्रीमंत असतात.
7There is who is making himself rich, and hath nothing, Who is making himself poor, and wealth [is] abundant.
8श्रीमंत माणसाला जीव वाचवण्यासाठी पैसे मोजावे लागतात पण गरीबांना अशा धमक्या कधीच मिळत नाहीत.
8The ransom of a man`s life [are] his riches, And the poor hath not heard rebuke.
9चांगला माणूस हा दैदीप्यमान दिव्यासारखा असतो. पण दुष्ट माणूस चटकन् विझणाऱ्या दिव्यासारखा असतो.
9The light of the righteous rejoiceth, And the lamp of the wicked is extinguished.
10जे लोक स्वत:ला इतरांपेक्षा शहाणे समजतात ते संकटे ओढवून घेतात. पण जे लोक दुसऱ्यांनी सांगितलेल्या गोष्टी ऐकून घेतात ते शहाणे असतात.
10A vain man through pride causeth debate, And with the counselled [is] wisdom.
11जर एखादा माणूस पैसे मिळवण्यासाठी फसवाफसवी करील तर त्याचे पैसे लवकरच जातील. पण जो माणूस कष्ट करुन पैसे मिळवतो त्याचे पैसे वाढतात.
11Wealth from vanity becometh little, And whoso is gathering by the hand becometh great.
12आशा नसली की ह्दय दु:खी असते. तुम्हाला हवी असलेली गोष्ट मिळाली की तुम्हाला खूप आनंद होतो.
12Hope prolonged is making the heart sick, And a tree of life [is] the coming desire.
13जर एखाद्या माणसाने इतर लोक त्याला मदत करण्याचा प्रयत्न करत असतील तेव्हा त्यांचे ऐकले नाही तर त्याच्यावर संकटे येतील पण जो माणूस दुसऱ्यांनी सांगितलेल्या गोष्टींचा मान राखतो त्याला त्याचे फळ मिळते.
13Whoso is despising the Word is destroyed for it, And whoso is fearing the Command is repayed.
14शहाण्या माणसाची शिकवण आयुष्य देते. ते शब्द तुम्हाला मृत्यूचा फास चुकवायला मदत करतील.
14The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
15लोकांना चांगली अक्कल असलेला माणूस आवडतो. पण ज्या माणसावर विश्वास टाकणे शक्य नसते त्याचे आयुष्य कठीण असते.
15Good understanding giveth grace, And the way of the treacherous [is] hard.
16शहाणा माणूस कृती करण्याआधी विचार करतो. परंतु मूर्ख माणूस त्याच्या कृतीने तो मूर्ख आहे हे दर्शवितो.
16Every prudent one dealeth with knowledge, And a fool spreadeth out folly.
17जर दूतावर विश्वास ठेवणे शक्य नसेल तर त्याच्याभोवती संकटे येतील. पण जर माणसावर विश्वास ठेवणे शक्य झाले तर तिथे शांती नांदेल.
17A wicked messenger falleth into evil, And a faithful ambassador is healing.
18जर एखाद्याने त्याच्या चुकांपासून शिकायला नकार दिला तर तो गरीब आणि लाज वाटणारा होईल. पण जर एखाद्याने त्याच्या वरील टीकेकडे लक्ष दिले तर त्याला त्याचा फायदा होईल.
18Whoso is refusing instruction — poverty and shame, And whoso is observing reproof is honoured.
19जर एखाद्या माणसाला काही हवे असले आणि नंतर ते त्याला मिळाले तर त्याला खूप आनंद होईल. पण मूर्खांना फक्त दुष्टावा हवा असतो. ते बदलायला तयार नसतात.
19A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, And an abomination to fools [is]: Turn from evil.
20शहाण्या लोकांशी मैत्री करा म्हणजे तुम्ही शहाणे व्हाल. पण जर तुम्ही मूर्खांशी मैत्री केली तर तुम्ही संकटात सापडाल.
20Whoso is walking with wise men is wise, And a companion of fools suffereth evil.
21पापी जिथे जातील तिथे संकटे त्यांचा पाठलाग करतात. पण चांगल्या माणसांच्या बाबतीत चांगल्या गोष्टी घडतात.
21Evil pursueth sinners, And good recompenseth the righteous.
22चांगल्या माणसाकडे त्याच्या मुलांना आणि नातवंडांना द्यायला संपत्ती असेल. आणि शेवटी चांगल्या माणसाला दुष्ट लोकांकडचे सर्व काही मिळेल.
22A good man causeth sons` sons to inherit, And laid up for the righteous [is] the sinner`s wealth.
23गरीब माणसाकडे खूप धान्य पिकवणारी चांगली जमीन असू शकते. पण तो वाईट निर्णय घेतो आणि उपाशी राहातो.
23Abundance of food — the tillage of the poor, And substance is consumed without judgment.
24जर एखाद्याचे आपल्या मुलांवर खरोखच प्रेम असेल तर तो त्यांचे चुकल्यावर त्यांना काठीने मारायलाही कमी करणार नाही. ते चुकीने वागल्यावर तो त्यांना शिस्त लावेल. जर तुमचे तुमच्या मुलावर प्रेम असेल तर तुम्ही त्याला योग्य वेळी काळजीपूर्वक शिकवाल.
24Whoso is sparing his rod is hating his son, And whoso is loving him hath hastened him chastisement.
25चांगल्या लोकांना समाधान होईपर्यंत खायला मिळेल. चांगल्या लोकांना त्यांना हव्या असलेल्या गोष्टी खरोखरच मिळतील. पण दुष्ट लोकांचे पोट रिकामेच राहील. दुष्ट लोकांना महत्वाच्या गोष्टींशिवाय राहावे लागेल.
25The righteous is eating to the satiety of his soul, And the belly of the wicked lacketh!
