¹शहाणी स्त्री तिच्या शहाणपणाचा उपयोग तिचे घर जसे असायला हवे तसे करण्यासाठी करते. पण मूर्ख बाई तिच्या मूर्खपणामुळे घराचा सत्यानाश करते.

¹Every wise woman hath builded her house, And the foolish with her hands breaketh it down.

²जो माणूस योग्य रीतीने जगतो तो परमेश्वराला मान देतो. पण जो माणूस इमानदार नसतो तो परमेश्वराचा तिरस्कार करतो.

²Whoso is walking in his uprightness is fearing Jehovah, And the perverted [in] his ways is despising Him.

³मूर्ख व गर्विष्ठ माणसाचे शब्द त्याच्यावर संकटे आणतात. पण शहाण्या माणसाचे शब्द त्याला वाचवतात.

³In the mouth of a fool [is] a rod of pride, And the lips of the wise preserve them.

⁴जर काम करायला गायी नसल्या तर धान्याचे कोठार रिकामे राहील. लोक गायीच्या शक्तीचा उपयोग चांगले पीक काढण्यासाठी करुन घेऊ शकतात.

⁴Without oxen a stall [is] clean, And great [is] the increase by the power of the ox.

⁵सत्यावादी माणूस खोटे बोलत नाही. तो चांगला साक्षीदार असतो. पण ज्या माणसावर विश्वास टाकणे शक्य नसते तो कधीच खरे सांगत नाही. तो वाईट साक्षीदार असतो.

⁵A faithful witness lieth not, And a false witness breatheth out lies.

⁶जे लोक देवाची थट्टा करतात ते ज्ञान मिळवण्याचा प्रयत्न करतील, पण त्यांना ते कधीच मिळत नाही. ज्यांचा देवावर विश्वास आहे ते खरोखर शहाणे आहेत. त्यांच्याजवळ ज्ञान सहजपणे येते.

⁶A scorner hath sought wisdom, and it is not, And knowledge to the intelligent [is] easy.

⁷मूर्खाशी मैत्री करु नका. तो तुम्हाला काहीही शिकवू शकणार नाही.

⁷Go from before a foolish man, Or thou hast not known the lips of knowledge.

⁸हुशार लोक शहाणे असतात. कारण ते ज्या गोष्टी करतात त्याचा काळजीपूर्वक विचार करतात. पण मूर्ख लोक मूर्ख असतात कराण आपण दुसऱ्यांना फसवून जगू शकतो असे त्यांना वाटत असते.

⁸The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way, And the folly of fools [is] deceit.

⁹मूर्ख माणूस त्याने केलेल्या वाईट गोष्टींसाठी किंमत मोजण्याच्या कल्पनेला हसतो. पण चांगले लोक त्यासाठी क्षमा मिळवण्यासाठी खूप प्रयत्न करतात.

⁹Fools mock at a guilt-offering, And among the upright — a pleasing thing.

¹⁰जर एखादा माणूस दु:खी असला तर फक्त त्यालाच ते दु:ख जाणवत असते. त्याचप्रमाणे जर माणूस आनंदी असला तर तो आनंद जाणवू शकेल असा तो एकटाच असतो.

¹⁰The heart knoweth its own bitterness, And with its joy a stranger doth not intermeddle.

¹¹वाईट माणसाच्या घराचा नाश होईल. पण चांगल्या माणसाचे घर सदैव राहील.

¹¹The house of the wicked is destroyed, And the tent of the upright flourisheth.

¹²लोकांना वाटत असते हाच मार्ग बरोबर आहे. पण तो मार्ग फक्त मरणाकडे नेतो.

¹²There is a way — right before a man, And its latter end [are] ways of death.

¹³माणूस जरी हसत असला तरी तो मनातून दु:खी असू शकतो. आणि हसल्यावरही खिन्नता तिथे तशीच राहाते.

¹³Even in laughter is the heart pained, And the latter end of joy [is] affliction.

¹⁴दुष्ट माणसांना त्यांनी केलेल्या चुकांबद्दल पूर्ण किंमत मोजावी लागेल. आणि चांगल्या माणसांना चांगल्या कृत्यांबद्दल बक्षीस मिळेल.

¹⁴From his ways is the backslider in heart filled, And a good man — from his fruits.

¹⁵मूर्ख जे ऐकतो त्यावर विश्वास ठेवतो. पण शहाणा माणूस प्रत्येक गोष्टीचा काळजीपूर्वक विचार करतो.

¹⁵The simple giveth credence to everything, And the prudent attendeth to his step.

¹⁶शहाणा माणूस परमेश्वराचा आदर करतो आणि वाईटापासून दूर राहतो. पण मूर्ख विचार न करता गोष्टी करतो. तो लक्षपूर्वक गोष्टी करत नाही.

¹⁶The wise is fearing and turning from evil, And a fool is transgressing and is confident.

¹⁷जो माणूस चटकन् रागावतो तो मूर्खासारख्या गोष्टी करतो. शहाणा मनुष्य सहनशील असतो.

¹⁷Whoso is short of temper doth folly, And a man of wicked devices is hated.

¹⁸मूर्खांना त्यांच्या मूर्खपणाबद्दल शिक्षा होते. पण शहाण्यांना ज्ञानाचा लाभ होतो.

¹⁸The simple have inherited folly, And the prudent are crowned [with] knowledge.

¹⁹चांगले लोक वाईटांबरोबर लढताना जिंकतील, वाईटांना त्यांच्यापुढे नतमस्तक होणे भाग पडेल.

¹⁹The evil have bowed down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

²⁰गरीबाला मित्र नसतात, शेजारीही नसतो. पण श्रीमंताला खूप मित्र असतात.

²⁰Even of his neighbour is the poor hated, And those loving the rich [are] many.

²¹जो शेजाऱ्याला पाण्यात पाहातो, तो पाप करतो. जर सुखी व्हायचे असेल तर त्या गरीबांशी दयाळू राहा.

²¹Whoso is despising his neighbour sinneth, Whoso is favouring the humble, O his happiness.

²²जो दुष्ट गोष्टींच्या योजना आखतो तो चूक करतो. पण जो चांगल्या गोष्टी करण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो त्याच्याजवळ प्रेम करणारे आणि त्याच्यावर विश्वास ठेवणारे मित्र असतात.

²²Do not they err who are devising evil? And kindness and truth [are] to those devising good,

²³जर तुम्ही कष्ट केलेत तर तुम्हाला लागणाऱ्या गोष्टी तुमच्या जवळ असतील. पण जर तुम्ही काही न करता फक्त बोलतच राहिलात तर तुम्ही गरीबच राहाल.

²³In all labour there is advantage, And a thing of the lips [is] only to want.

²⁴शहाण्यांना संपत्तीचे बक्षीस मिळते. पण मूर्खांना मूर्खपणाचे बक्षीस मिळते.

²⁴The crown of the wise is their wealth, The folly of fools [is] folly.

²⁵जो माणूस खरे सांगतो तो इतरांना मदत करतो. जो खोटे बोलतो तो इतरांना दु:ख देतो.

²⁵A true witness is delivering souls, And a deceitful one breatheth out lies.

²⁶जो परमेश्वराचा आदर करतो तो सुरक्षित असतो आणि त्याची मुलेही सुरक्षितपणे जगतात.

²⁶In the fear of Jehovah [is] strong confidence, And to His sons there is a refuge.

²⁷परमेश्वराबद्दलची आदर युक्त भीती खरे जीवन देते. त्यामुळे माणूस मरणाच्या जाळ्यातून वाचतो.

²⁷The fear of Jehovah [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.

²⁸जर राजा खूप लोकांवर राज्य करत असला तर तो महान असतो. पण जर तिथे लोकच नसले तर त्या राजाची काहीच किंमत नसते.

²⁸In the multitude of a people [is] the honour of a king, And in lack of people the ruin of a prince.

²⁹सहनशील माणूस खूप हुशार असतो. ज्या माणसाला चटकन् राग येतो तो आपण मूर्ख आहोत, हे सिध्द करतो.

²⁹Whoso is slow to anger [is] of great understanding, And whoso is short in temper is exalting folly.

³⁰जर एखाद्याच्या मनात शांती असली तर त्याचे शरीर निरोगी असते. पण मत्सर त्याच्या शरीरात आजार निर्माण करतो.

³⁰A healed heart [is] life to the flesh, And rottenness to the bones [is] envy.

³¹जो माणूस गरीबांवर संकटे आणतो तो आपण देवाचा आदर करीत नाही हे दाखवतो. देवानेच दोघांनाही निर्माण केले आहे. पण जर एखादा गरीबांशी कनवाळूपणे वागला तर तो देवाचा आदर करतो हे दिसून येते.

³¹An oppressor of the poor reproacheth his Maker, And whoso is honouring Him Is favouring the needy.

³²संकटाच्यावेळी दुष्ट माणसाचा पराभव होतो. पण चांगली माणसे मरणाच्या दारातही विजयी होतात.

³²In his wickedness is the wicked driven away, And trustful in his death [is] the righteous.

³³शहाणा माणूस नेहमी शहाण्या गोष्टींचा विचार करतो. पण मूर्खाला शहाणपणाबद्दल काहीही माहिती नसते.

³³In the heart of the intelligent wisdom doth rest. And in the midst of fools it is known.

³⁴चांगलपणा देशाला महान बनवतो. पण पाप कुठल्याही लोकांना लाज आणते.

³⁴Righteousness exalteth a nation, And the goodliness of peoples [is] a sin-offering.

³⁵राजाजवळ जेव्हा शहाणे नेते असतात तेव्हा राजा आनंदी असतो. पण मूर्ख नेत्यांवर राजा रागावतो.

³⁵The favour of a king [is] to a wise servant, And an object of his wrath is one causing shame!
