1आदरणीय असणे हे श्रीमंत असण्यापेक्षा अधिक चांगले. चांगले नाव असणे हे सोन्या चांदीपेक्षा अधिक महत्वाचे आहे.
1A name is chosen rather than much wealth, Than silver and than gold — good grace.
2गरीब लोक आणि श्रीमंत लोक सारखेच असतात. सर्वांना परमेश्वरानेच निर्माण केले आहे.
2Rich and poor have met together, The Maker of them all [is] Jehovah.
3शहाण्या लोकांना संकट येताना दिसते आणि ते वाटेतून बाजूला होतात. पण मूर्ख लोक सरळ संकटात जातात आणि त्यामुळे सोसत राहातात.
3The prudent hath seen the evil, and is hidden, And the simple have passed on, and are punished.
4परमेश्वराला मान द्या आणि विनम्र राहा. नंतर तुम्हाला संपत्ती, मान आणि खरे जीवन मिळेल.
4The end of humility [is] the fear of Jehovah, Riches, and honour, and life.
5वाईट लोक अनेक संकटांच्या जाळ्यात अडकले आहेत. पण जो माणूस आपल्या आत्म्याची काळजी करतो तो संकटांपासून दूर राहातो.
5Thorns — snares [are] in the way of the perverse, Whoso is keeping his soul is far from them.
6लहान मुलाला जगण्याचा योग्य मार्ग लहानपणीच शिकवा. मग तो जेव्हा मोठा होईल तेव्हा त्याच मार्गांने जगेल.
6Give instruction to a youth about his way, Even when he is old he turneth not from it.
7गरीब लोक श्रीमंतांचे गुलाम असतात. जो माणूस कर्ज घेतो तो जो कर्ज देतो त्याचा गुलाम असतो.
7The rich over the poor ruleth, And a servant [is] the borrower to the lender.
8जो माणूस संकटे पसरवतो तो संकटांचे पीक घेतो. आणि शेवटी त्या माणसाचा नाश होईल त्याने इतरांना दिलेल्या त्रासांमुळेच त्या माणसाचा नाश होईल.
8Whoso is sowing perverseness reapeth sorrow, And the rod of his anger weareth out.
9जो मनुष्य स्वखुशीने आनंदाने देतो त्याला आशीर्वाद मिळेल. कारण तो आपले अन्न गरिबांबरोबर वाटून खातो.
9The good of eye — he is blessed, For he hath given of his bread to the poor.
10जर एखादा माणूस स्वत:ला इतरांपेक्षा चांगला समजत असेल तर त्याला जबरदस्तीने जायला भाग पाडा. जेव्हा तो माणूस जाईल तेव्हा त्याच्याबरोबर संकटही जाईल. नंतर वाद आणि फुशारक्याही बंद होतील.
10Cast out a scorner — and contention goeth out, And strife and shame cease.
11जर तुम्ही शुध्द मनावर आणि प्रेमळ शब्दांवर प्रेम करीत असाल तर राजाही तुमचा मित्र होईल.
11Whoso is loving cleanness of heart, Grace [are] his lips, a king [is] his friend.
12जे लोक परमेश्वराला ओळखतात त्यांच्यावर तो नजर ठेवतो आणि त्यांचे रक्षण करतो. पण जे त्याच्याविरुध्द जातात त्यांचा तो नाश करतो.
12The eyes of Jehovah have kept knowledge, And He overthroweth the words of the treacherous.
13आळशी माणूस म्हणतो, “मी आता कामाला जाऊ शकत नाही. बाहेर सिंह आहे आणि तो मला खाईल.”
13The slothful hath said, `A lion [is] without, In the midst of the broad places I am slain.`
14व्यभिचाराचे पाप हा एक सापळा आहे. जो माणूस या सापळ्यात अडकतो त्याच्यावर परमेश्वर खूप रागावतो.
14A deep pit [is] the mouth of strange women, The abhorred of Jehovah falleth there.
15मुले मूर्खपणाच्या गोष्टी करीत असतात. पण तुम्ही जर त्यांना शिक्षा केली तर त्या गोष्टी न करायलाही ते शिकतील.
15Folly is bound up in the heart of a youth, The rod of chastisement putteth it far from him.
16या दोन गोष्टी तुम्हाला गरीब बनवतील. स्वत:ला श्रीमंत बनवण्यासाठी गरीबांना त्रास देणे आणि श्रीमंतांना नजराणे देणे.
16He is oppressing the poor to multiply to him, He is giving to the rich — only to want.
17मी काय सांगतो ते ऐका. मी तुम्हाला विद्वानांनी जे सांगितले ते शिकवतो. या शिकवणीपासून शिका.
17Incline thine ear, and hear words of the wise, And thy heart set to my knowledge,
18तुम्ही जर या म्हणी लक्षात ठेवल्या तर ते तुमच्या दृष्टीने फार चांगले होईल. तुम्ही जर हे शब्द म्हणू शकलात तर तुम्हाला त्यांची मदत होईल.
18For they are pleasant when thou dost keep them in thy heart, They are prepared together for thy lips.
19मी तुम्हाला आता या गोष्टी शिकवेन. तुम्ही परमेश्वरावर विश्वास ठेवावा अशी माझी इच्छा आहे.
19That thy trust may be in Jehovah, I caused thee to know to-day, even thou.
20मी तुमच्यासाठी तीस म्हणी लिहिल्या. हे शब्द म्हणजे उपदेश आणि शहाणपण आहे.
20Have I not written to thee three times With counsels and knowledge?
21हे शब्द तुम्हाला खऱ्या आणि महत्वाच्या गोष्टी सांगतील. नंतर तुम्ही तुमच्याकडे पाठवलेल्यांना ज्यांनी तुम्हाला विचारले त्यांना तुम्ही चांगली उत्तरे देऊ शकता.
21To cause thee to know the certainty of sayings of truth, To return sayings of truth to those sending thee.
22गरिबांची चोरी करणे सोपे असते. पण ते करु नका आणि न्यायालयात या गरीब लोकांचा फायदा घेऊ नका.
22Rob not the poor because he [is] poor, And bruise not the afflicted in the gate.
23परमेश्वर त्यांच्या बाजूला आहे. तो त्यांना साहाय्य करतो आणि त्यांच्याकडून ज्यांनी वस्तू घेतल्या त्या वस्तू तो परत घेईल.
23For Jehovah pleadeth their cause, And hath spoiled the soul of their spoilers.
24जो खूप लवकर रागावतो त्या माणसाशी मैत्री करु नका. जो पटकन् वेडा होतो त्या माणसाजवळ जाऊ नका.
24Shew not thyself friendly with an angry man, And with a man of fury go not in,
25जर तुम्ही गेलात तर तुम्ही त्याच्यासारखेच व्हायला शिकाल. आणि तुमच्यावरही त्याच्यावर येतात तशीच संकटे येतील.
25Lest thou learn his paths, And have received a snare to thy soul.
26दुसऱ्याच्या कर्जासाठी जामीन राहाण्याचे वचन देऊ नका.
26Be not thou among those striking hands, Among sureties [for] burdens.
27जर तुम्ही त्याचे कर्ज फेडू शकला नाही, तर तुम्ही तुमच्या जवळचे सर्व घालवून बसाल. तुमचे झोपायचे अंथरुण तुम्ही का घालवता?
27If thou hast nothing to pay, Why doth he take thy bed from under thee?
28खूप पूर्वी तुमच्या पूर्वजांनी जामीन - जायदादीची आखून दिलेली रेषा पुसू नका.
28Remove not a border of olden times, That thy fathers have made.
29जर एखादा माणूस त्याच्या कामात तरबेज असला तर तो राजांची चाकरी करण्यायोग्य असतो. त्याला बिनमहत्वाच्या लोकांसाठी काम करावे लागणार नाही.
29Hast thou seen a man speedy in his business? Before kings he doth station himself, He stations not himself before obscure men!
