¹माझ्या बंधूंनो, गौरवी प्रभु येसू ख्रिस्तावरील विश्वासाची व पक्षपातीपणाची सांगड घालू नका.

¹My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with partiality.

²समजा एक मनुष्य सोन्याची अंगठी व सुंदर कपडे घालून तुमच्या सभेला आला व एक गरीब मनुष्य अव्यवस्थित कपडे घालून आला.

²For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue or, meeting , and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in;

³आणि समजा चांगला पोशाख घालून आलेल्या मनुष्याला तुम्ही विशेष मानसन्मान दाखवूत त्याला म्हणाला, “येथे ज्या चांगल्या खुर्च्या आहेत त्यापैकी एखाद्या खुर्चीवर बसा.” आणि समजा तुम्ही त्या गरीब माणासाला म्हणाला, “तिकडे उभा राहा.” किंवा “माझ्या पायाजवळ बस.”

³and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing, and say, “Sit here in a good place”; and you tell the poor man, “Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool”;

⁴तर या बाबतीत तुम्ही दोघांत पक्षपातीपणा दाखविलात की नाही? आणि तुम्ही आपल्या मनात वाईट कल्पना बाळगणारे न्यायाधीश ठरलात की नाही?

⁴haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

⁵माझ्या प्रिय बंधूंनो, ऐका! देवानेच जगाच्या दृष्टिकोनातून गरीब असले त्यांना विस्वासात श्रीमंत होण्यासाठी निवडले नाही काय, आणि जे त्याच्यावर प्रीति करतात त्यांना देवरोज्याचे वारस म्हणून निवडण्याचे अभिवचन दिले नाही का?

⁵Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?

⁶पण तुम्ही तर गरीब मनुष्याला तुच्छ लेखिले! तुमची पिळवणूक करणारे श्रीमंत लोकच नाहीत काय आणि तुम्हाला न्यायालयात नेणारे तेच लोक नाहीत काय?

⁶But you have dishonored the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts?

⁷ख्रिस्ताच्या उत्तम नावाची, जे नाव तुम्हाला देण्यात आले त्याची निंदा हेच श्रीमंत लोक करीत नाहीत का?

⁷Don’t they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called?

⁸जर तुम्ही पवित्र शास्त्रातील महान आज्ञा “आपल्या शेजाऱ्ावर आपल्यासारखीच प्रीति करा” पाळता तर तुम्ही योग्य करता.

⁸However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” Leviticus 19:18 you do well.

⁹पण जर तुम्ही पक्षपात करता, तर तुम्ही पाप करता आणि नियम मोडण्याचा दोष तुमच्यावर येतो.

⁹But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.

¹⁰कारण जर कोणी संपूर्ण नियमशास्त्राचे पालन करतो पण एका नियमाबाबतीत चुकतो, तर तो संपूर्ण नियमशास्त्राबाबतीत दोषी ठरतो.

¹⁰For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

¹¹कारण “व्यभिचार करू नको” असे जो म्हणाला, “तो असे सुद्धा म्हणाला की, “खून करू नको.” म्हणून जर तुम्ही व्यभिचार करीत नाही पण खून करतो तर तुम्ही नियमशास्त्र मोडता.

¹¹For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” Exodus 20:14; Deuteronomy 5:18 also said, “Do not commit murder.” Exodus 10:13; Deuteronomy 5:17 Now if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

¹²अशा लोकांसारखे बोला व वागा की, ज्यांचा न्याय अशा नियमांमुळे होणार आहे की, ज्यामुळे स्वातंत्र्य मिळेल.

¹²So speak, and so do, as men who are to be judged by a law of freedom.

¹³जो दयाळूपणे वागला नसेल त्याचा न्यायही देव त्याच्यावर दया न दाखविताच करील. पण दया न्यायावर विजय मिळविते!

¹³For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

¹⁴माझ्या बंधूंनो, जर एखादा म्हणतो की, मी विश्वास धरतो पण तशी कृती करीत नाही तर त्याचा काय उपयोग? तो विश्वास त्याला तारू शकणार नाही. शकेल का?

¹⁴What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him?

¹⁵जर एखादा बंधु किंवा भगिनी यांना कपड्यांची आवश्यकता असेल व त्यांना रोजचे अन्रसुद्धा मिळत नसेल

¹⁵And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,

¹⁶आणि तुमच्यापैकी एखादा त्यांना म्हणतो, “देवबाप तुम्हांला आशीर्वाद देवो! उबदार कपडे घाला आणि चांगले खा.” पण तुम्ही त्यांच्या शरीराला जे आवश्यक ते देत नाही, तर तो काय चांगले करतो?

¹⁶and one of you tells them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled”; and yet you didn’t give them the things the body needs, what good is it?

¹⁷त्याचप्रमाणे विश्वासाबरोबर जर कृतीची जोड नसेल तर तो केवळ एक मृत असाच विश्वास असेल.

¹⁷Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.

¹⁸पण एखादा म्हणेल, “तुझ्याकडे विश्वास आहे तर माझ्याकडे काम आहे.” कृतीशिवाय तुझा विश्वास दाखव, आणि माझा विश्वास मी माझ्या कृतीने दाखवीन.

¹⁸Yes, a man will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith.

¹⁹तुम्ही असा विश्वास धरता का की, फक्त एकच देव आहे? उत्तम! भुतेदेखील असा विश्वास धरतात व थरथर कापतात.

¹⁹You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.

²⁰अरे मूढ माणास, कृतीशिवाय विश्वास व्यर्थ आहे याचा तुला पुरावा पाहिजे काय?

²⁰But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?

²¹आपला पूर्वज अब्राहाम याने त्याचा पुत्र इसहाक याला वेदीवर परमेश्वराला अर्पण करण्याची तयारी दर्शविली, तेव्हा त्याच्या या कामामुळे तो देवाच्या दृष्टीत नीतिमान ठरला नाही काय?

²¹Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?

²²तू पाहतोस की त्याच्या कृतीमध्ये विश्वाससुद्धा बरोबरीने कार्यरत होता व त्याचा विश्वास त्याच्या कृतीमुळे पूर्ण झाला.

²²You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected;

²³आणि अशा रीतीने पवित्र शास्त्र जे सांगते, ते परिपूणे झाले की, “अब्राहामाने देवावर विश्वास ठेवला आणि त्याचा विश्वास हा त्याचे नीतिमत्त्व मोजला गेला.” आणि त्या कारणामुळे त्याला “देवाचा मित्र” असे म्हटले गेले.

²³and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness”; Genesis 15:6 and he was called the friend of God.

²⁴केवळ विश्वासामुळे नव्हे, तर त्याच्या कृतीमुळे मनुष्य देवासमोर नीतिमान ठरविला जातो, हे तुम्ही पाहता.

²⁴You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith.

²⁵त्याचप्रमाणे राहाब वेश्येने इस्राएली हेरांना आसरा देऊन, काही वेळानंतर निराळया वाटेने तेथून निसटून जाण्यासाठी मदत केली. तेव्हा ही कृती तिचे नीतिमत्त्व मानले गेले नाही काय?

²⁵In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?

²⁶म्हणून, ज्याप्रमाणे शरीर हे आत्म्याशिवाय मेलेले आहे, त्याचप्रमाणे विश्वास हा कृत्यांवाचून मेलेला असा आहे.

²⁶For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
