¹Fraţilor, nu vreau să nu ştiţi că părinţii noştri toţi au fost supt nor, toţi au trecut prin mare,

¹Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

²toţi au fost botezaţi în nor şi în mare, pentru Moise;

²and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

³toţi au mîncat aceeaş mîncare duhovnicească,

³and all ate the same spiritual food;

⁴şi toţi au băut aceeaş băutură duhovnicească, pentrucă beau dintr'o stîncă duhovnicească ce venea după ei; şi stînca era Hristos.

⁴and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.

⁵Totuş cei mai mulţi dintre ei, n'au fost plăcuţi lui Dumnezeu, căci au pierit în pustie.

⁵However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

⁶Şi aceste lucruri s'au întîmplat ca să ne slujească nouă drept pilde, pentruca să nu poftim după lucruri rele, cum au poftit ei.

⁶Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

⁷Să nu fiţi închinători la idoli, ca unii dintre ei, după cum este scris: ,,Poporul a şezut să mănînce şi să bea; şi s'au sculat să joace.``

⁷Neither be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” Exodus 32:6

⁸Să nu curvim, cum au făcut unii din ei, aşa că într -o singură zi au căzut douăzeci şi trei de mii.

⁸Neither let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.

⁹Să nu ispitim pe Domnul, cum L-au ispitit unii din ei, cari au pierit prin şerpi.

⁹Neither let us test the Lord, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.

¹⁰Să nu cîrtiţi, cum au cîrtit unii din ei, cari au fost nimiciţi de Nimicitorul.

¹⁰Neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.

¹¹Aceste lucruri li s'au întîmplat ca să ne slujească drept pilde, şi au fost scrise pentru învăţătura noastră, peste cari au venit sfîrşiturile veacurilor.

¹¹Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

¹²Astfel dar, cine crede că stă în picioare, să ia seama să nu cadă.

¹²Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn’t fall.

¹³Nu v'a ajuns nici o ispită, care să nu fi fost potrivită cu puterea omenească. Şi Dumnezeu, care este credincios, nu va îngădui să fiţi ispitiţi peste puterile voastre; ci, împreună cu ispita, a pregătit şi mijlocul să ieşiţi din ea, ca s'o puteţi răbda.

¹³No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

¹⁴De aceea, prea iubiţii mei, fugiţi de închinarea la idoli.

¹⁴Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

¹⁵Vă vorbesc ca unor oameni cu judecată: judecaţi voi singuri ce spun.

¹⁵I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say.

¹⁶Paharul binecuvîntat, pe care -l binecuvîntăm, nu este el împărtăşirea cu sîngele lui Hristos? Pînea, pe care o frîngem, nu este ea împărtăşirea cu trupul lui Hristos?

¹⁶The cup of blessing which we bless, isn’t it a sharing of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn’t it a sharing of the body of Christ?

¹⁷Avînd în vedere că este o pîne, noi, cari sîntem mulţi, sîntem un trup; căci toţi luăm o parte din aceeaş pîne.

¹⁷Because there is one loaf of bread, we, who are many, are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf of bread.

¹⁸Uitaţi-vă la Israelul după trup: cei ce mănîncă jertfele, nu sînt ei în împărtăşire cu altarul?

¹⁸Consider Israel according to the flesh. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?

¹⁹Deci ce zic eu? Că un lucru jertfit idolilor, este ceva? Sau că un idol este ceva?

¹⁹What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?

²⁰Dimpotrivă, eu zic că ce jerfesc Neamurile, jertfesc dracilor, şi nu lui Dumnezeu. Şi eu nu vreau ca voi să fiţi în împărtăşire cu dracii.

²⁰But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons.

²¹Nu puteţi bea paharul Domnului şi paharul dracilor; nu puteţi lua parte la masa Domnului şi la masa dracilor.

²¹You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.

²²Sau vrem să întărîtăm pe Domnul la gelozie? Sîntem noi mai tari decît El?

²²Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

²³Toate lucrurile sînt îngăduite, dar nu toate sînt de folos. Toate lucrurile sînt îngăduite, dar nu toate zidesc.

²³“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are profitable. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things build up.

²⁴Nimeni să nu-şi caute folosul lui, ci fiecare să caute folosul altuia.

²⁴Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good.

²⁵Să mîncaţi din tot ce se vinde pe piaţă, fără să cercetaţi ceva din pricina cugetului.

²⁵Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience,

²⁶Căci ,,al Domnului este pămîntul şi tot ce cuprinde el.``

²⁶for “the earth is the Lord’s, and its fullness.” Psalm 24:1

²⁷Dacă vă pofteşte un necredincios la o masă, şi voiţi să vă duceţi, să mîncaţi din tot ce vă pune înainte, fără să cercetaţi ceva din pricina cugetului.

²⁷But if one of those who don’t believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience.

²⁸Dar dacă vă spune cineva: ,,Lucrul acesta a fost jertfit idolilor``, să nu mîncaţi, din pricina celui ce v'a înştiinţat şi din pricina cugetului; căci ,,al Domnului este pămîntul şi tot ce cuprinde el.``

²⁸But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” don’t eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.”

²⁹Vorbesc aici nu de cugetul vostru, ci de cugetul altuia. Căci dece să fie judecată slobozenia mea de cugetul altuia?

²⁹Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other’s conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience?

³⁰Dacă mănînc, aducînd mulţămiri, de ce să fiu vorbit de rău pentru un lucru, pentru care mulţămesc?

³⁰If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for that for which I give thanks?

³¹Deci, fie că mîncaţi, fie că beţi, fie că faceţi altceva: să faceţi totul pentru slava lui Dumnezeu.

³¹Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

³²Să nu fiţi pricină de păcătuire nici pentru Iudei, nici pentru Greci, nici pentru Biserica lui Dumnezeu.

³²Give no occasions for stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the assembly of God;

³³După cum mă silesc şi eu în toate lucrurile să plac tuturor, căutînd nu folosul meu, ci al celor mai mulţi, ca să fie mîntuiţi.

³³even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.
