⁶They said to him, “A man came up to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you, and tell him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel, that you send to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”’”

⁷Ahazia le -a zis: ,,Ce înfăţişare avea omul acela care s'a suit înaintea voastră şi v'a spus aceste cuvinte?``

⁷He said to them, “What kind of man was he who came up to meet you, and told you these words?”

⁸Ei au răspuns: ,,Era un om îmbrăcat cu o manta de păr şi încins cu o curea la mijloc.`` Şi Ahazia a zis: ,,Este Ilie, Tişbitul.``

⁸They answered him, “He was a hairy man, and wearing a leather belt around his waist.” He said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.”

⁹Then the king sent a captain of fifty with his fifty to him. He went up to him; and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. He said to him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!’”

¹⁰Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty!” Fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹¹Ahazia a trimes din nou la el altă căpetenie peste cincizeci cu cei cincizeci de oameni ai lui. Căpetenia aceasta a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis lui Ilie: ,,Omule al lui Dumnezeu, aşa a zis împăratul: ,,Grăbeşte-te de te pogoară!``

¹¹Again he sent to him another captain of fifty and his fifty. He answered him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down quickly!’”

¹²Ilie le -a răspuns: ,,Dacă sînt un om al lui Dumnezeu, să se pogoare foc din cer şi să te mistuiască, pe tine şi pe cei cincizeci de oameni ai tăi!`` Şi s'a pogorît foc din cer şi l -a mistuit, pe el şi pe cei cincizeci de oameni ai lui.

¹²Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty!” The fire of God came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹³Ahazia a trimes din nou o a treia căpetenie peste cincizeci, împreună cu cei cincizeci de oameni ai săi. ¹⁵The angel of Yahweh said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Don’t be afraid of him.” He arose, and went down with him to the king.

¹⁶El i -a zis: ,,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,Pentrucă ai trimes soli să întrebe pe Baal-Zebub, dumnezeul Ecronului, ca şi cum n'ar fi în Israel Dumnezeu al cărui cuvînt să -l poţi întreba, nu te vei mai da jos din patul în care te-ai suit, ci vei muri.``

¹⁶He said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”

¹⁷Ahazia a murit, după cuvîntul Domnului, rostit prin Ilie. Şi în locul lui, a început să domnească Ioram, în al doilea an al lui Ioram, fiul lui Iosafat, împăratul lui Iuda; căci n'avea fiu.
