¹,,Nebucadneţar, împăratul, către toate popoarele, neamurile, oamenii de toate limbile, cari locuiesc pe tot pămîntul: Să aveţi multă pace!

¹Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.

²Am găsit cu cale să fac cunoscut semnele şi minunile, pe cari le -a făcut Dumnezeul cel Prea Înalt faţă de mine.

²It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked toward me.

³Cît de mari sînt semnele Lui şi cît de puternice sînt minunile Lui! Împărăţia Lui este o împărăţie vecinică, şi stăpînirea Lui dăinuieşte din neam în neam!

³How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

⁴Eu, Nebucadneţar, trăiam liniştit în casa mea, şi fericit în palatul meu.

⁴I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.

⁵Am visat un vis, care m'a înspăimîntat; gîndurile de cari eram urmărit în patul meu şi vedeniile duhului meu mă umpleau de groază.

⁵I saw a dream which made me afraid; and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

⁶Am poruncit atunci să aducă înaintea mea pe toţi înţelepţii Babilonului, ca să-mi tîlcuiască visul.

⁶Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

⁷Îndată au venit vrăjitorii, cititorii în stele, Haldeii şi ghicitorii. Le-am spus visul, şi nu mi l-au putut tîlcui.

⁷Then came in the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers; and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me its interpretation.

⁸La urmă de tot, s'a înfăţişat înaintea mea Daniel, numit Beltşaţar, după numele dumnezeului meu, şi care are în el duhul dumnezeilor celor sfinţi. I-am spus visul, şi am zis:

⁸But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and I told the dream before him, saying,

⁹-,,Beltşaţare, căpetenia vrăjitorilor, ştiu că ai în tine duhul dumnezeilor sfinţi, şi că pentru tine nici o taină nu este grea; deci tîlcuieşte-mi vedeniile, pe cari le-am avut în vis.

⁹Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.

¹⁰Iată vedeniile cari mi-au trecut prin cap, cînd eram în pat. Mă uitam, şi iată că în mijlocul pămîntului era un copac foarte înalt.

¹⁰Thus were the visions of my head on my bed: I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth; and its height was great.

¹¹Copacul acesta s'a făcut mare şi puternic, vîrful lui se înălţa pînă la ceruri, şi se vedea dela marginile întregului pămînt.

¹¹The tree grew, and was strong, and its height reached to the sky, and its sight to the end of all the earth.

¹²Frunza lui era frumoasă, şi avea roade multe; în el se găsea hrană pentru toţi; fiarele cîmpului se adăposteau supt umbra lui, păsările cerului îşi făceau cuibul în ramurile lui, şi orice făptură vie se hrănea din el.

¹²The leaves of it were beautiful, and its fruit much, and in it was food for all: the animals of the field had shadow under it, and the birds of the sky lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.

¹³În vedeniile cari-mi treceau prin cap, în patul meu, mă uitam, şi iată că s'a pogorît din ceruri un străjer sfînt.

¹³I saw in the visions of my head on my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from the sky.

¹⁴El a strigat cu putere şi a vorbit aşa: ,,Tăiaţi copacul, şi rupeţi ramurile; scuturaţi -i frunza şi risipiţi roadele; fugăriţi fiarele de supt el, şi păsările din ramurile lui!

¹⁴He cried aloud, and said thus, Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit: let the animals get away from under it, and the fowls from its branches.

¹⁵Dar trunchiul cu rădăcinile lui, lăsaţi -l în pămînt, şi legaţi -l cu lanţuri de fer şi de aramă, în iarba de pe cîmp, ca să fie udat de roua cerului, şi să fie la un loc cu fiarele în iarba pămîntului.

¹⁵Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals in the grass of the earth:

¹⁶Inima lui de om i se va preface într'o inimă de fiară, şi vor trece şapte vremuri peste el.

¹⁶let his heart be changed from man’s, and let an animal’s heart be given to him; and let seven times pass over him.

¹⁷Hotărîrea aceasta a fost luată în sfatul străjerilor, şi pusă la cale înaintea sfinţilor, ca să ştie cei vii că Cel Prea Înalt stăpîneşte peste împărăţia oamenilor, că o dă cui îi place, şi înalţă pe ea pe cel mai de jos dintre oameni!``

¹⁷The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will, and sets up over it the lowest of men.

¹⁸Iată visul pe care l-am visat, eu, împăratul Nebucadneţar. Tu, Beltşaţar, tîlcuieşte -l, fiindcă toţi înţelepţii din împărăţia mea nu pot să mi -l tîlcuiască; tu însă poţi, căci ai în tine duhul dumnezeilor sfinţi.``

¹⁸This dream I, king Nebuchadnezzar, have seen; and you, Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.

¹⁹Atunci Daniel, numit Beltşaţar, a rămas uimit o clipă, şi gîndurile lui îl tulburau. Împăratul a luat din nou cuvîntul, şi a zis: ,,Beltşaţare, să nu te turbure visul şi tîlcuirea!``. Şi Beltşaţar a răspuns: ,,Domnul meu, visul acesta să fie pentru vrăjmaşii tăi, şi tîlcuirea lui pentru protivnicii tăi!

¹⁹Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered, Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream, or the interpretation, trouble you. Belteshazzar answered, My lord, the dream be to those who hate you, and its interpretation to your adversaries.

²⁰Copacul pe care l-ai văzut, care se făcuse atît de mare şi puternic, încît i se înălţa vîrful pînă la ceruri şi se vedea dela toate capetele pămîntului;

²⁰The tree that you saw, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached to the sky, and its sight to all the earth;

²¹copacul acesta, a cărui frunză era aşa de frumoasă şi care avea roade atît de multe şi în care era hrană pentru toţi, supt care se adăposteau fiarele cîmpului, şi în ramurile căruia îşi făceau-cuibul păsările cerului,

²¹whose leaves were beautiful, and its fruit much, and in it was food for all; under which the animals of the field lived, and on whose branches the birds of the sky had their habitation:

²²eşti tu, împărate, care ai ajuns mare şi puternic, a cărui mărime a crescut şi s'a înălţat pînă la ceruri, şi a cărui stăpînire se întinde pînă la marginile pămîntului.

²²it is you, O king, that are grown and become strong; for your greatness is grown, and reaches to the sky, and your dominion to the end of the earth.

²³Împăratul a văzut pe un străjer sfînt pogorîndu-se şi zicînd: ,,Tăiaţi copacul, şi nimiciţi -l; dar trunchiul cu rădăcinile lui lăsaţi -l în pămînt, şi legaţi -l cu lanţuri de fer şi de aramă, în iarba de pe cîmp, ca să fie udat de roua cerului, şi să stea la un loc cu fiarele cîmpului, pînă vor trece şapte vremuri peste el``.

²³Whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from the sky, and saying, Cut down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him;

²⁴Iată tîlcuirea acestui fapt, împărate, iată hotărîrea Celui Prea Înalt, care se va împlini asupra domnului meu împăratul.

²⁴this is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which has come on my lord the king:

²⁵Te vor izgoni din mijlocul oamenilor, vei locui la un loc cu fiarele cîmpului, şi îţi vor da să mănînci iarbă ca la boi; vei fi udat de roua cerului şi şapte vremi vor trece peste tine, pînă vei cunoaşte că Cel Prea Înalt stăpîneşte peste împărăţia oamenilor şi o dă cui vrea.

²⁵that you shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field, and you shall be made to eat grass as oxen, and shall be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

²⁶Porunca să lase trunchiul cu rădăcinile copacului, înseamnă că împărăţia ta îţi va rămînea ţie îndată ce vei recunoaşte stăpînirea Celui ce este în ceruri.

²⁶Whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree; your kingdom shall be sure to you, after that you shall have known that the heavens do rule.

²⁷Deaceea, împărate, placă-ţi sfatul meu! Pune capăt păcatelor tale, şi trăieşte în neprihănire, rupe -o cu nelegiuirile tale, şi ai milă de cei nenorociţi, şi poate că ţi se va prelungi fericirea!

²⁷Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.

²⁸Toate aceste lucruri s'au împlinit asupra împăratului Nebucadneţar.

²⁸All this came on the king Nebuchadnezzar.

²⁹După douăsprezece luni, pe cînd se plimba pe acoperişul palatului împărătesc din Babilon,

²⁹At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon.

³⁰împăratul a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis: ,,Oare nu este acesta Babilonul cel mare, pe care mi l-am zidit eu, ca loc de şedere împărătească, prin puterea bogăţiei mele şi spre slava măreţiei mele?``

³⁰The king spoke and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

³¹Nu se sfîrşise încă vorba aceasta a împăratului, şi un glas s'a pogorît din cer şi a zis: ,,Află, împărate Nebucadneţar, că ţi s'a luat împărăţia!

³¹While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from the sky, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you:

³²Te vor izgoni din mijlocul oamenilor, şi vei locui la un loc cu fiarele cîmpului; îţi vor da să mănînci iarbă ca la boi, şi vor trece peste tine şapte vremi, pînă vei recunoaşte că Cel Prea Înalt stăpîneşte peste împărăţia oamenilor şi că o dă cui vrea!`` -

³²and you shall be driven from men; and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field; you shall be made to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

³³Chiar în clipa aceea, s'a împlinit cuvîntul acela asupra lui Nebucadneţar. A fost izgonit din mijlocul oamenilor, a mîncat iarbă ca boii, trupul i -a fost udat de roua cerului, pînă i -a crescut părul ca penele vulturului, şi unghiile ca ghiarele păsărilor.``

³³The same hour was the thing fulfilled on Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until his hair was grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.

³⁴După trecerea vremii sorocite, eu, Nebucadneţar, am ridicat ochii spre cer, şi mi -a venit iarăş mintea la loc. Am binecuvîntat pe Cel Prea Înalt, am lăudat şi slăvit pe Cel ce trăieşte vecinic, Acela a cărui stăpînire este vecinică, şi a cărui împărăţie dăinuieşte din neam în neam.

³⁴At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him who lives forever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.

³⁵Toţi locuitorii pămîntului sînt o nimica înaintea Lui; El face ce vrea cu oastea cerurilor şi cu locuitorii pămîntului, şi nimeni nu poate să stea împotriva mîniei Lui, nici să -I zică:,, Ce faci?``

³⁵All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or ask him, What are you doing?

³⁶În vremea aceea, mi -a venit mintea înapoi; slava împărăţiei mele, măreţia şi strălucirea mea mi s'au dat înapoi; sfetnicii şi mai marii mei din nou m'au căutat; am fost pus iarăş peste împărăţia mea, şi puterea mea a crescut.

³⁶At the same time my understanding returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned to me; and my counselors and my lords sought to me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added to me.

³⁷Acum, eu, Nebucadneţar, laud, înalţ şi slăvesc pe Împăratul cerurilor, căci toate lucrările Lui sînt adevărate, toate căile Lui sînt drepte, şi El poate să smerească pe ceice umblă cu mîndrie!``

³⁷Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.
