¹Cuvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit, astfel:

¹The word of Yahweh came to me again, saying,

²,,Pentruce spuneţi voi zicătoarea aceasta în ţara lui Israel: ,,Părinţii au mîncat aguridă, şi copiilor li s'au sterpezit dinţii?``

²What do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?

³,,Pe viaţa Mea, zice Domnul, Dumnezeu că nu veţi mai avea prilej să spuneţi zicătoarea aceasta în Israel.

³As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, you shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.

⁴Iată că toate sufletele sînt ale Mele. După cum sufletul fiului este al Meu, tot aşa şi sufletul tatălui este al Meu. Sufletul care păcătuieşte, acela va muri.

⁴Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins, he shall die.

⁵Omul care este drept, care face judecată şi dreptate,

⁵But if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right,

⁶care nu mănîncă pe munţi carne jerfită idolilor, şi nu ridică ochii spre idolii casei lui Israel, care nu necinsteşte nevasta aproapelui său, şi nu se apropie de nevastă-sa în timpul necurăţeniei ei,

⁶and has not eaten on the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither has defiled his neighbor’s wife, neither has come near to a woman in her impurity,

⁷care n'asupreşte pe nimeni, care dă înapoi datornicului zălogul, care nu răpeşte nimic, care dă din pînea lui celui flămînd şi înveleşte cu o haină pe cel gol,

⁷and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

⁸care nu împrumută cu dobîndă şi nu ia camătă, care îşi abate mîna dela nelegiuire şi judecă după adevăr între un om şi altul,

⁸he who has not given forth on interest, neither has taken any increase, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,

⁹care urmează legile Mele şi păzeşte poruncile Mele, lucrînd cu credincioşie, -omul acela este drept, şi va trăi negreşit, zice Domnul, Dumnezeu.``

⁹has walked in my statutes, and has kept my ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, says the Lord Yahweh.

¹⁰,,Dacă acum omul acesta are un fiu iute la mînie, care varsă sînge, sau care face ceva de felul acesta;

¹⁰If he fathers a son who is a robber, a shedder of blood, and who does any one of these things,

¹¹dacă acest fiu nu se ia în nimic după purtarea tatălui său neprihănit, ci mănîncă pe munţi, necinsteşte pe nevasta aproapelui său,

¹¹and who does not any of those duties, but even has eaten on the mountains, and defiled his neighbor’s wife,

¹²asupreşte pe cel nenorocit şi pe cel lipsit, răpeşte, nu dă înapoi zălogul, ridică ochii spre idoli şi face urîciuni,

¹²has wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,

¹³împrumută cu dobîndă şi ia camăta, s'ar putea oare să trăiască un astfel de fiu? Nu va trăi; a săvîrşit toate aceste urîciuni, de aceea trebuie să moară. Sîngele lui să cadă asupra capului lui!

¹³has given forth on interest, and has taken increase; shall he then live? he shall not live: he has done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be on him.

¹⁴Dar dacă un om are un fiu, care vede toate păcatele tatălui său, le vede, dar nu face la fel;

¹⁴Now, behold, if he fathers a son, who sees all his father’s sins, which he has done, and fears, and does not such like;

¹⁵dacă fiul acela nu mănîncă pe munţi şi nu ridică ochii spre idolii casei lui Israel, nu necinsteşte pe nevasta aproapelui său,

¹⁵who has not eaten on the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, has not defiled his neighbor’s wife,

¹⁶nu asupreşte pe nimeni, nu ia niciun zălog, nu răpeşte, ci dă din pînea lui celui flămînd şi acopere cu o haină pe cel gol,

¹⁶neither has wronged any, has not taken anything to pledge, neither has taken by robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

¹⁷îşi abate mîna dela nelegiuire, nu ia nici dobîndă nici camătă, păzeşte poruncile Mele şi urmează legile Mele, acela nu va muri pentru nelegiuirea tatălui său, ci va trăi negreşit.

¹⁷who has withdrawn his hand from the poor, who has not received interest nor increase, has executed my ordinances, has walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

¹⁸Dar tatăl său, care a fost un asupritor, a răpit dela alţii, a făcut în mijlocul poporului său ce nu este bine, el va muri pentru nelegiuirea lui!``

¹⁸As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he shall die in his iniquity.

¹⁹,,Voi însă ziceţi: ,,Pentruce nu poartă fiul pedeapsa pentru nelegiuirea tatălui său?`` Pentru că fiul a lucrat după neprihănire şi dreptate, a păzit şi a împlinit toate legile Mele; el va trăi negreşit!

¹⁹Yet you say, Why doesn’t the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son has done that which is lawful and right, and has kept all my statutes, and has done them, he shall surely live.

²⁰Sufletul care păcătuieşte, acela va muri. Fiul nu va purta nelegiuirea tatălui său, şi tatăl nu va purta nelegiuirea fiului său! Neprihănirea celui neprihănit va fi peste el, şi răutatea celui rău va fi peste el.

²⁰The soul who sins, he shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him.

²¹Dar dacă cel rău se întoarce dela toate păcatele pe cari le -a săvîrşit, şi păzeşte toate legile Mele şi face ce este drept şi plăcut, va trăi negreşit, nu va muri.

²¹But if the wicked turn from all his sins that he has committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

²²Toate fărădelegile pe cari le -a făcut, i se vor uita! El va trăi, din pricina neprihănirii în care a trăit.

²²None of his transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him: in his righteousness that he has done he shall live.

²³Doresc Eu moartea păcătosului? zice Domnul, Dumnezeu. Nu doresc Eu mai degrabă ca el să se întoarcă de pe căile lui şi să trăiască?

²³Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? says the Lord Yahweh; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

²⁴Însă dacă cel neprihănit se abate dela neprihănirea lui şi săvîrşeşte nelegiuirea, dacă se ia după toate urîciunile celui rău, s'ar putea să trăiască el oare? Nu, ci toată neprihănirea lui va fi uitată, pentrucă s'a dat la nelegiuire şi la păcat; de aceea va muri în ele.

²⁴But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them shall he die.

²⁵Voi ziceţi: ,,Calea Domnului nu este dreaptă!`` Ascultaţi dar, casa lui Israel! Nu este calea Mea dreaptă? Oare nu mai degrabă căile voastre nu sînt drepte?

²⁵Yet you say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, house of Israel: Is my way not equal? Aren’t your ways unequal?

²⁶Dacă cel neprihănit se abate dela neprihănirea lui şi săvîrşeşte nelegiuirea, şi moare pentru aceasta, moare din pricina nelegiuirii pe care a săvîrşit -o.

²⁶When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies therein; in his iniquity that he has done shall he die.

²⁷Dar dacă cel rău se întoarce dela răutatea lui şi face ce este drept şi bine, îşi va păstra sufletul viu.

²⁷Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

²⁸Pentrucă îşi deschide ochii şi se abate dela toate fărădelegile pe cari le -a săvîrşit, va trăi şi nu va muri.``

²⁸Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

²⁹Casa lui Israel zice: ,,Calea Domnului nu este dreaptă.`` Oare calea Mea nu este dreaptă, casa lui Israel? Oare nu mai degrabă căile voastre nu sînt drepte?

²⁹Yet the house of Israel says, “The way of the Lord is not fair.” House of Israel, aren’t my ways fair? Aren’t your ways unfair?

³⁰De aceea vă voi judeca pe fiecare după căile lui, casă a lui Israel, zice Domnul, Dumnezeu. Întoarceţi-vă şi abateţi-vă dela toate fărădlegile voastre, pentruca să nu vă ducă nelegiuirea la pieire.

³⁰Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways, says the Lord Yahweh. Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

³¹Lepădaţi dela voi toate fărădelegile, prin care aţi păcătuit, faceţi-vă rost de o inimă nouă şi un duh nou. Pentruce vreţi să muriţi, casă a lui Israel?

³¹Cast away from you all your transgressions, in which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, house of Israel?

³²Căci Eu nu doresc moartea celuice moare, zice Domnul Dumnezeu. Întoarceţi-vă dar la Dumnezeu, şi veţi trăi.``

³²For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Yahweh: therefore turn yourselves, and live.
