¹Cuvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit astfel:

¹The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

²,,Fiul omului, spune o vorbă cu tîlc, spune o pildă casei lui Israel,

²Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel;

³şi zi: ,,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeu: ,,Un vultur mare, cu aripi lungi, cu aripile întinse, acoperit cu pene pestriţe, a venit în Liban, şi a luat vîrful unui cedru.

³and say, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: A great eagle with great wings and long feathers, full of feathers, which had various colors, came to Lebanon, and took the top of the cedar:

⁴A rupt ramura cea mai înaltă a lui, a dus -o într'o ţară de negoţ, şi a pus -o într'o cetate de negustori;

⁴he cropped off the topmost of the young twigs of it, and carried it to a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants.

⁵a luat şi din sămînţa ţării şi a pus -o într'un pămînt roditor; a pus -o lîngă o apă mare, şi a sădit -o ca pe o salcie.

⁵He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful soil; he placed it beside many waters; he set it as a willow tree.

⁶Lăstarul acesta a crescut, şi s'a făcut un butuc de viţă întins, dar nu prea înalt; viţele îi erau îndreptate spre vultur, şi rădăcinile erau supt el. Astfel s'a făcut un butuc de viţă, a dat lăstari, şi a făcut mlădiţe.

⁶It grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

⁷Mai era însă un alt vultur, mare, cu aripi lungi şi cu pene multe. Şi iată că din pămîntul unde era sădită, viţa aceasta şi -a întins rădăcinile cu lăcomie spre el, şi şi -a îndreptat ramurile spre el, ca s'o ude mai mult decît pe stratul în care era sădită.

⁷There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him, and shot forth its branches toward him, from the beds of its plantation, that he might water it.

⁸Viţa era sădită într'un pămînt bun, lîngă o apă mare, aşa ca să facă mlădiţe, să dea rod, şi să se facă o viţă minunată``.

⁸It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

⁹,,Spune, zice Domnul, Dumnezeu, îi va merge bine ei oare? Nu -i va smulge vulturul dintîi rădăcinile, şi -i va tăia rodul, şi i se vor usca toate frunzele odrăslite? Se va usca şi nu va trebui niciun braţ puternic, nici multă lume, ca s'o scoată din rădăcinile ei.

⁹Say, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up its roots, and cut off its fruit, that it may wither; that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? and not by a strong arm or many people can it be raised from its roots.

¹⁰Iată că este sădită: îi va merge bine? Dacă o va atinge vîntul de răsărit, nu se va usca ea oare? Da, se va usca în straturile unde a odrăslit.``

¹⁰Yes, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? it shall wither in the beds where it grew.

¹¹Cuvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit astfel:

¹¹Moreover the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

¹²,,Spune casei acesteia răzvrătite: ,,Nu ştiţi ce înseamnă aceasta?`` Şi spune: ,,Iată, împăratul Babilonului a venit la Ierusalim, a luat pe împăratul şi pe căpetenile lui, şi i -a dus cu el în Babilon.

¹²Say now to the rebellious house, Don’t you know what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took its king, and its princes, and brought them to him to Babylon:

¹³A luat un vlăstar de neam împărătesc, a făcut legămînt cu el, şi l -a pus să jure; dar pe mai marii ţării i -a luat cu el,

¹³and he took of the seed royal, and made a covenant with him; he also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land;

¹⁴ca împărăţia să rămînă smerită, să nu se mai poată ridica, ci împăratul să-şi ţină legămîntul, rămînîndu -i credincios.

¹⁴that the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand.

¹⁵Dar el s'a răsculat împotriva lui, şi a trimes soli în Egipt, ca să -i dea cai şi un mare număr de oameni. Celce a făcut asemenea lucruri va izbuti el oare, ca scăpa el oare? Cum să mai scape dacă a rupt legămîntul?``

¹⁵But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and many people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape who does such things? shall he break the covenant, and yet escape?

¹⁶,,Pe viaţa Mea, zice Domnul, Dumnezeu, că în ţara împăratului care l -a pus să domnească, faţă de care şi -a călcat jurămîntul şi al cărui legămînt l -a rupt, lîngă el, în mijlocul Babilonului va muri!

¹⁶As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.

¹⁷Aşa că nici Faraon nu va veni cu o oaste mare şi popor mult să -l ajute în război, cînd se vor ridica întărituri şi se vor face şanţuri pentru nimicirea multor suflete.

¹⁷Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts, to cut off many persons.

¹⁸El a nesocotit jurămîntul, pînă într'atît, că a rupt legămîntul, ba încă şi -a dat mîna, şi a făcut toate aceste lucruri; nu va scăpa!

¹⁸For he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet has done all these things; he shall not escape.

¹⁹De aceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeu: ,,Pe viaţa Mea că, întrucît a nesootit jurămîntul făcut în Numele Meu, şi a rupt legămîntul Meu, voi face să se întoarce asupra capului lui lucrul acesta.

¹⁹Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: As I live, surely my oath that he has despised, and my covenant that he has broken, I will even bring it on his own head.

²⁰Îmi voi întinde mreaja peste el, şi va fi prins în laţul Meu. Îl voi duce în Babilon, şi acolo îl voi judeca pentru abaterea săvîrşită de el faţă de Mine.

²⁰I will spread my net on him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me.

²¹Dar toţi fugarii din toate oştile lui vor cădea loviţi de sabie, şi ceice vor mai rămînea vor fi risipiţi în toate vînturile. Şi veţi şti că Eu, Domnul, am spus aceste lucruri.``

²¹All his fugitives in all his bands shall fall by the sword, and those who remain shall be scattered toward every wind: and you shall know that I, Yahweh, have spoken it.

²²Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeu: ,,Eu însumi voi lua o rămurea din vîrful unui cedru mare, şi o voi pune la pămînt. Voi rupe din vîrful ramurilor lui o mlădiţă fragedă, şi o voi sădi pe un munte înalt şi ridicat.

²²Thus says the Lord Yahweh: I will also take of the lofty top of the cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain:

²³Şi anume, o voi sădi pe un munte înalt al lui Israel; ea va da lăstari, va aduce rod, şi se va face un cedru măreţ. Păsări de tot felul se vor odihni supt umbra ramurilor lui.

²³in the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shade of its branches shall they dwell.

²⁴Şi toţi copacii de pe cîmp vor şti că Eu, Domnul, am pogorît copacul care se înălţa şi am înălţat copacul care era plecat; că Eu am uscat copacul cel verde şi am înverzit copacul cel uscat. Eu, Domnul, am vorbit, şi voi şi face.

²⁴All the trees of the field shall know that I, Yahweh, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish; I, Yahweh, have spoken and have done it.
