¹Dar cîtă vreme moştenitorul este nevrîstnic, eu spun că nu se deosebeşte cu nimic de un rob, măcar că este stăpîn pe tot.

¹But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a bondservant, though he is lord of all;

²Ci este supt epitropi şi îngrijitori, pînă la vremea rînduită de tatăl său.

²but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father.

³Tot aşa şi noi, cînd eram nevrîstnici, eram supt robia învăţăturilor începătoare ale lumii.

³So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world.

⁴Dar cînd a venit împlinirea vremii, Dumnezeu a trimes pe Fiul Său, născut din femeie, născut supt Lege,

⁴But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,

⁵ca să răscumpere pe cei ce erau supt Lege, pentru ca să căpătăm înfierea.

⁵that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of children.

⁶Şi pentru că sînteţi fii, Dumnezeu ne -a trimes în inimă Duhul Fiului Său, care strigă: ,,Ava``, adică: ,,Tată!``

⁶And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Abba is a Greek spelling for the Aramaic word for “Father” or “Daddy” used in a familiar, respectful, and loving way. Father!”

⁷Aşa că nu mai eşti rob, ci fiu; şi dacă eşti fiu, eşti şi moştenitor, prin Dumnezeu.

⁷So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

⁸Odinioară, cînd nu cunoşteaţi pe Dumnezeu, eraţi robiţi celor ce din firea lor, nu sînt dumnezei.

⁸However at that time, not knowing God, you were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods.

⁹Dar acum, dupăce aţi cunoscut pe Dumnezeu, sau mai bine zis, dupăce aţi fost cunoscuţi de Dumnezeu, cum vă mai întoarceţi iarăş la acele învăţături începătoare, slabe şi sărăcăcioase, cărora vreţi să vă supuneţi din nou?

⁹But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?

¹⁰Voi păziţi zile, luni, vremi şi ani.

¹⁰You observe days, months, seasons, and years.

¹¹Mă tem să nu mă fi ostenit degeaba pentru voi.

¹¹I am afraid for you, that I might have wasted my labor for you.

¹²Fraţilor, vă rog să fiţi ca mine, căci şi eu sînt ca voi. Nu mi-aţi făcut nicio nedreptate.

¹²I beg you, brothers, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong,

¹³Dimpotrivă, ştiţi că, în neputinţa trupului v'am propovăduit Evanghelia pentru întîia dată.

¹³but you know that because of weakness of the flesh I preached the Good News to you the first time.

¹⁴Şi, n'aţi arătat nici dispreţ, nici desgust faţă de ceeace era o ispită pentru voi în trupul meu; dimpotrivă, m'aţi primit ca pe un înger al lui Dumnezeu, ca pe însuş Hristos Isus.

¹⁴That which was a temptation to you in my flesh, you didn’t despise nor reject; but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

¹⁵Unde este dar fericirea voastră? Căci vă mărturisesc că, dacă ar fi fost cu putinţă, v'aţi fi scos pînă şi ochii şi mi i-aţi fi dat.

¹⁵What was the blessing you enjoyed? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.

¹⁶M'am făcut oare vrăjmaşul vostru, pentrucă v'am spus adevărul?

¹⁶So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?

¹⁷Nu cu gînd bun sînt plini de rîvnă ei pentru voi, ci vor să vă deslipească de noi, ca să fiţi plini de rîvnă faţă de ei.

¹⁷They zealously seek you in no good way. No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them.

¹⁸Este bine să fii plin de rîvnă totdeauna pentru bine, nu numai cînd sînt de faţă la voi.

¹⁸But it is always good to be zealous in a good cause, and not only when I am present with you.

¹⁹Copilaşii mei, pentru cari iarăş simt durerile naşterii, pînăce va lua Hristos chip în voi!

¹⁹My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ is formed in you—

²⁰O, cum aş vrea să fiu acum de faţă la voi, şi să-mi schimb glasul; căci nu ştiu ce să mai cred!

²⁰but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.

²¹Spuneţi-mi voi, cari voiţi să fiţi supt Lege, n'ascultaţi voi Legea?

²¹Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, don’t you listen to the law?

²²Căci este scris că Avraam a avut doi fii: unul din roabă, şi unul din femeia slobodă.

²²For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the free woman.

²³Dar cel din roabă s'anăscut în chip firesc, iar cel din femeia slobodă s'a născut prin făgăduinţă.

²³However, the son by the handmaid was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise.

²⁴Lucrurile acestea trebuiesc luate într'alt înţeles: acestea sînt două legăminte: unul depe muntele Sinai naşte pentru robie şi este Agar, -

²⁴These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar.

²⁵căci Agar este muntele Sinai din Arabia; -şi răspunde Ierusalimului de acum, care este în robie împreună cu copiii săi.

²⁵For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to the Jerusalem that exists now, for she is in bondage with her children.

²⁶Dar Ierusalimul cel de sus este slobod, şi el este mama noastră.

²⁶But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

²⁷Fiindcă este scris: ,,Bucură-te, stearpo, care nu naşti de loc! Izbucneşte de bucurie şi strigă, tu, care nu eşti în durerile naşterii! Căci copiii celei părăsite vor fi în număr mai mare decît copiii celei cu bărbat.``

²⁷For it is written, “Rejoice, you barren who don’t bear. Break forth and shout, you that don’t travail. For more are the children of the desolate than of her who has a husband.” Isaiah 54:1

²⁸Şi voi, fraţilor, ca şi Isaac, voi sînteţi copii ai făgăduinţei.

²⁸Now we, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise.

²⁹Şi cum s'a întîmplat atunci, că cel ce se născuse în chip firesc prigonea pe cel ce se născuse prin Duhul tot aşa se întîmplă şi acum.

²⁹But as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.

³⁰Dar ce zice Scriptura? ,,Izgoneşte pe roabă şi pe fiul ei; căci fiul roabei nu va moşteni împreună cu fiul femeii slobode.``

³⁰However what does the Scripture say? “Throw out the handmaid and her son, for the son of the handmaid will not inherit with the son of the free woman.” Genesis 21:10

³¹De aceea, fraţilor, noi nu sîntem copiii celei roabe, ci ai femeii slobode. Hristos ne -a izbăvit ca să fim slobozi.

³¹So then, brothers, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the free woman.
