¹Între Farisei era un om cu numele Nicodim, un fruntaş al Iudeilor.

¹Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

²Acesta a venit la Isus, noaptea, şi I -a zis: ,,Învăţătorule, ştim că eşti un Învăţător, venit dela Dumnezeu; căci nimeni nu poate face semnele pe cari le faci Tu, dacă nu este Dumnezeu cu el.``

²The same came to him by night, and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”

³Drept răspuns, Isus i -a zis: ,,Adevărat, adevărat îţi spun că, dacă un om nu se naşte din nou, nu poate vedea Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.``

³Jesus answered him, “Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew, The word translated “anew” here and in John 3:7 (anothen) also means “again” and “from above”. he can’t see the Kingdom of God.”

⁴Nicodim I -a zis: ,,Cum se poate naşte un om bătrîn? Poate el să intre a doua oară în pîntecele maicii sale, şi să se nască?``

⁴Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?”

⁵Isus i -a răspuns: ,,Adevărat, adevărat îţi spun, că, dacă nu se naşte cineva din apă şi din Duh, nu poate să intre în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.

⁵Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he can’t enter into the Kingdom of God!

⁶Ce este născut din carne, este carne, şi ce este născut din Duh, este duh.

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

⁷Nu te mira că ţi-am zis: ,,Trebuie să vă naşteţi din nou.

⁷ Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born anew.’

⁸Vîntul suflă încotro vrea, şi -i auzi vuietul; dar nu ştii de unde vine, nici încotro merge. Tot aşa este cu oricine este născut din Duhul.``

⁸ The wind The same Greek word (pneuma) means wind, breath, and spirit. blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

⁹Nicodim I -a zis: ,,Cum se poate face aşa ceva?``

⁹Nicodemus answered him, “How can these things be?”

¹⁰Isus I -a răspuns: ,,Tu eşti învăţătorul lui Israel, şi nu pricepi aceste lucruri?

¹⁰Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and don’t understand these things?

¹¹Adevărat, adevărat îţi spun, că noi vorbim ce ştim, şi mărturisim ce am văzut; şi voi nu primiţi mărturia noastră.

¹¹ Most certainly I tell you, we speak that which we know, and testify of that which we have seen, and you don’t receive our witness.

¹²Dacă v'am vorbit despre lucruri pămînteşti şi nu credeţi, cum veţi crede cînd vă voi vorbi despre lucrurile cereşti?

¹² If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

¹³Nimeni nu s'a suit în cer, afară de Cel ce S'a pogorît din cer, adică Fiul omului, care este în cer.

¹³ No one has ascended into heaven, but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.

¹⁴Şi, după cum a înălţat Moise şarpele în pustie, tot aşa trebuie să fie înălţat şi Fiul omului,

¹⁴ As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

¹⁵pentruca oricine crede în El să nu piară, ci să aibă viaţa vecinică.

¹⁵ that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

¹⁶Fiindcă atît de mult a iubit Dumnezeu lumea, că a dat pe singurul Lui Fiu, pentruca oricine crede în El, să nu piară, ci să aibă viaţa vecinică.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

¹⁷Dumnezeu, în adevăr, n'a trimes pe Fiul Său în lume ca să judece lumea, ci ca lumea să fie mîntuită prin El.

¹⁷ For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

¹⁸Oricine crede în El, nu este judecat; dar cine nu crede, a şi fost judecat, pentrucă n'a crezut în Numele singurului Fiu al lui Dumnezeu.

¹⁸ He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

¹⁹Şi judecata aceasta stă în faptul că, odată venită Lumina în lume, oamenii au iubit mai mult întunerecul decît lumina, pentrucă faptele lor erau rele.

¹⁹ This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.

²⁰Căci oricine face răul, urăşte lumina, şi nu vine la lumină, ca să nu i se vădească faptele.

²⁰ For everyone who does evil hates the light, and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.

²¹Dar cine lucrează după adevăr, vine la lumină, pentruca să i se arate faptele, fiindcă sînt făcute în Dumnezeu.``

²¹ But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.”

²²După aceea Isus, şi ucenicii Lui, a venit în ţinutul Iudeii; şi stătea acolo cu ei şi boteza.

²²After these things, Jesus came with his disciples into the land of Judea. He stayed there with them, and baptized.

²³Ioan boteza şi el în Enon, aproape de Salim, pentrucă acolo erau multe ape; şi oamenii veneau ca să fie botezaţi.

²³John also was baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came, and were baptized.

²⁴Căci Ioan încă nu fusese aruncat în temniţă.

²⁴For John was not yet thrown into prison.

²⁵Între ucenicii lui Ioan şi între un Iudeu, s'a iscat o neînţelegere cu privire la curăţire.

²⁵There arose therefore a questioning on the part of John’s disciples with some Jews about purification.

²⁶Au venit deci la Ioan şi i-au zis: ,,Învăţătorule, Celce era cu tine dincolo de Iordan, şi despre care ai mărturisit tu, iată că botează, şi toţi oameni se duc la El.``

²⁶They came to John, and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, the same baptizes, and everyone is coming to him.”

²⁷Drept răspuns, Ioan i -a zis: ,,Omul nu poate primi decît ce -i este dat din cer.

²⁷John answered, “A man can receive nothing, unless it has been given him from heaven.

²⁸Voi înşivă îmi sînteţi martori că am zis: ,,Nu sînt eu Hristosul, ci sînt trimes înaintea Lui.

²⁸You yourselves testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before him.’

²⁹Cine are mireasă, este mire; dar prietenul mirelui, care stă şi -l ascultă, se bucură foarte mult cînd aude glasul mirelui: şi această bucurie, care este a mea, este deplină.

²⁹He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This, my joy, therefore is made full.

³⁰Trebuie ca El să crească, iar eu să mă micşorez.

³⁰He must increase, but I must decrease.

³¹Celce vine din cer, este mai pe sus de toţi; celce este depe pămînt, este pămîntesc, şi vorbeşte ca de pe pămînt. Celce vine din cer, este mai pe sus de toţi.

³¹He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.

³²El mărturiseşte ce a văzut şi a auzit, şi totuş nimeni nu primeşte mărturia Lui.

³²What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.

³³Cine primeşte mărturia Lui, adevereşte prin aceasta că Dumnezeu spune adevărul.

³³He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.

³⁴Căci Acela, pe care L -a trimes Dumnezeu, vorbeşte cuvintele lui Dumnezeu, pentrucă Dumnezeu nu -I dă Duhul cu măsură.

³⁴For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.

³⁵Tatăl iubeşte pe Fiul, şi a dat toate lucrurile în mîna Lui.

³⁵The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.

³⁶Cine crede în Fiul, are viaţa vecinică; dar cine nu crede în Fiul, nu va vedea viaţa, ci mînia lui Dumnezeu rămîne peste el.``

³⁶One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys The same word can be translated “disobeys” or “disbelieves” in this context. the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”
