¹Domnul a vorbit lui Iosua, şi a zis:

¹Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

²,,Vorbeşte copiilor lui Israel, şi spune-le: Hotărîţi-vă cum v'am poruncit prin Moise, cetăţi de scăpare,

²“Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Assign the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you by Moses,

³unde să poată fugi ucigaşul care va omorî pe cineva fără voie, fără să aibă vreun gînd să -l omoare; ele să vă fie un loc de scăpare împotriva răzbunătorului sîngelui.

³that the manslayer who kills any person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there. They shall be to you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.

⁴Ucigaşul să fugă într'una din aceste cetăţi, să se oprească la intrarea porţii cetăţii, şi să spună întîmplarea lui bătrînilor cetăţii aceleia; ei să -l primească la ei în cetate, şi să -i dea o locuinţă, ca să locuiască împreună cu ei.

⁴He shall flee to one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city. They shall take him into the city with them, and give him a place, that he may live among them.

⁵Dacă răzbunătorul sîngelui îl va urmări, ei să nu dea pe ucigaş în mînile lui; căci fără să vrea a omorît pe aproapele lui, şi fără să -i fi fost vrăjmaş mai înainte.

⁵If the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver up the manslayer into his hand; because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him before.

⁶El să rămînă în cetatea aceasta pînă se va înfăţişa înaintea adunării ca să fie judecat, pînă la moartea marelui preot care va fi atunci în slujbă. Atunci, ucigaşul să se întoarcă şi să intre iarăş în cetatea şi în casa lui, în cetatea de unde fugise``.

⁶He shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days. Then the manslayer shall return, and come to his own city, and to his own house, to the city he fled from.’”

⁷Ei au pus deoparte Chedeşul, în Galileia, în muntele lui Neftali; Sihemul în muntele lui Efraim; şi Chiriat-Arba, sau Hebronul, în muntele lui Iuda.

⁷They set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (the same is Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.

⁸Şi de cealaltă parte a Iordanului, la răsăritul Ierihonului, a ales Beţerul, în pustie, în cîmpie, în seminţia lui Ruben; Ramot în Galaad, în seminţia lui Gad; şi Golan, în Basan, în seminţia lui Manase.

⁸Beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

⁹Acestea au fost cetăţile hotărîte pentru toţi copiii lui Israel şi pentru străinul care locuieşte în mijlocul lor, pentru ca cel ce va ucide pe cineva fără voie să poată fugi în ele, şi să nu moară ucis de mîna răzbunătorului sîngelui, înainte de a se înfăţişa înaintea adunării.

⁹These were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the alien who lives among them, that whoever kills any person unintentionally might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stands before the congregation.
