¹În vremea aceea a ieşit o poruncă de la Cezar August să se înscrie toată lumea.

¹Now it happened in those days, that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.

²Înscrierea aceasta s'a făcut întîia dată pe cînd era dregător în Siria Ăuirinius.

²This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.

³Toţi se duceau să se înscrie, fiecare în cetatea lui.

³All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.

⁴Iosif s'a suit şi el din Galilea, din cetatea Nazaret, ca să se ducă în Iudea, în cetatea lui David, numită Betleem, -pentrucă era din casa şi din seminţia lui David, -

⁴Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;

⁵să se înscrie împreună cu Maria, logodnica lui, care era însărcinată.

⁵to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant.

⁶Pe cînd erau ei acolo, s'a împlinit vremea cînd trebuia să nască Maria.

⁶It happened, while they were there, that the day had come that she should give birth.

⁷Şi a născut pe Fiul ei cel întîi născut, L -a înfăşat în scutece şi L -a culcat într'o iesle, pentrucă în casa de poposire nu era loc pentru ei.

⁷She brought forth her firstborn son, and she wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.

⁸În ţinutul acela erau nişte păstori, cari stăteau afară în cîmp, şi făceau de strajă noaptea împrejurul turmei lor.

⁸There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.

⁹Şi iată că un înger al Domnului s'a înfăţişat înaintea lor, şi slava Domnului a strălucit împrejurul lor. Ei s'au înfricoşat foarte tare.

⁹Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

¹⁰Dar îngerul le -a zis: ,,Nu vă temeţi: căci vă aduc o veste bună, care va fi o mare bucurie pentru tot norodul:

¹⁰The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.

¹¹astăzi în cetatea lui David, vi s'a născut un Mîntuitor, care este Hristos, Domnul.

¹¹For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

¹²Iată semnul, după care -L veţi cunoaşte: veţi găsi un prunc înfăşat în scutece şi culcat într'o iesle.``

¹²This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough.”

¹³Şi deodată, împreună cu îngerul s'a unit o mulţime de oaste cerească, lăudînd pe Dumnezeu, şi zicînd:

¹³Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying,

¹⁴,,Slavă lui Dumnezeu în locurile prea înalte, şi pace pe pămînt între oamenii plăcuţi Lui.``

¹⁴“Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.”

¹⁵După ce au plecat îngerii de la ei, ca să se întoarcă în cer, păstorii au zis unii către alţii: ,,Haidem să mergem pînă la Betleem, şi să vedem ce ni s'a spus şi ce ne -a făcut cunoscut Domnul.``

¹⁵It happened, when the angels went away from them into the sky, that the shepherds said one to another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

¹⁶S'au dus în grabă, şi au găsit pe Maria, pe Iosif, şi pruncul culcat în iesle.

¹⁶They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.

¹⁷După ce L-au văzut, au istorisit ce li se spusese despre Prunc.

¹⁷When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.

¹⁸Toţi ceice i-au auzit, s'au mirat de cele ce le spuneau păstorii.

¹⁸All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.

¹⁹Maria păstra toate cuvintele acelea, şi se gîndea la ele în inima ei.

¹⁹But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.

²⁰Şi păstorii s'au întors, slăvind şi lăudînd pe Dumnezeu, pentru toate cele ce auziseră şi văzuseră, şi cari erau întocmai cum li se spusese.

²⁰The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.

²¹Cînd a venit ziua a opta, în care trebuia tăiat împrejur pruncul, I-au pus numele ISUS, nume, care fusese spus de înger înainte ca să fi fost El zămislit în pîntece.

²¹When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

²²Şi, cînd s'au împlinit zilele pentru curăţirea lor, după Legea lui Moise, Iosif şi Maria au adus Pruncul la Ierusalim, ca să -L înfăţişeze înaintea Domnului, -

²²When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord

²³după cum este scris în Legea Domnului: ,,Orice întîi născut de partea bărbătească va fi închinat Domnului``,

²³(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), Exodus 13:2,12

²⁴şi ca să aducă jertfă: o păreche de turturele sau doi pui de porumbei, după cum este poruncit în Legea Domnului.

²⁴and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” Leviticus 12:8

²⁵Şi iată că în Ierusalim era un om numit Simeon. Omul acesta ducea o viaţă sfîntă, şi era cu frica lui Dumnezeu. El aştepta mîngîierea lui Israel, şi Duhul Sfînt era peste el.

²⁵Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

²⁶Duhul Sfînt îl înştiinţase că nu va muri înainte ca să vadă pe Hristosul Domnului.

²⁶It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. “Christ” (Greek) and “Messiah” (Hebrew) both mean “Anointed One”

²⁷El a venit în Templu, mînat de Duhul. Şi, cînd au adus părinţii înlăuntru pe Pruncul Isus, ca să împlinească cu privire la El ce poruncea Legea,

²⁷He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,

²⁸Simeon L -a luat în braţe, a binecuvîntat pe Dumnezeu, şi a zis:

²⁸then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,

²⁹,,Acum, slobozeşte în pace pe robul Tău, Stăpîne, după cuvîntul Tău.

²⁹“Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace;

³⁰Căci au văzutochii mei mîntuirea Ta,

³¹pe care ai pregătit -o să fie, înaintea tuturor popoarelor,

³²lumina care să lumineze neamurile, şi slava poporului Tău Israel.``

³²a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.”

³³Tatăl şi mama Lui se mirau de lucrurile cari se spuneau despre El.

³³Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him,

³⁴Simeon i -a binecuvîntat, şi a zis Mariei, mama Lui: ,,Iată, Copilul acesta este rînduit spre prăbuşirea şi ridicarea multora în Israel, şi să fie un semn, care va stîrni împotrivire.

³⁴and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.

³⁵Chiar sufletul tău va fi străpuns de o sabie, ca să se descopere gîndurile multor inimi.``

³⁵Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

³⁶Mai era acolo şi o proorociţă, Ana, fata lui Fanuel, din seminţia lui Aşer. Ea era foarte înaintată în vîrstă, şi trăise cu bărbatul ei şapte ani după fecioria ei.

³⁶There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,

³⁷Rămasă văduvă, şi fiind în vîrstă de optzeci şi patru ani, Ana nu se depărta de Templu, şi zi şi noapte slujea lui Dumnezeu cu post şi cu rugăciuni.

³⁷and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and day.

³⁸A venit şi ea în acelaş ceas, şi a început să laude pe Dumnezeu, şi să vorbească despre Isus tuturor celor ce aşteptau mîntuirea Ierusalimului.

³⁸Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.

³⁹După ce au împlinit tot ce poruncea Legea Domnului, Iosif şi Maria s'au întors în Galilea, în cetatea lor Nazaret.

³⁹When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.

⁴⁰Iar Pruncul creştea şi se întărea; era plin de înţelepciune, şi harul lui Dumnezeu era peste El.

⁴⁰The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

⁴¹Părinţii lui Isus se duceau la Ierusalim în fiecare an, la praznicul Paştelor.

⁴¹His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.

⁴²Cînd a fost El de doisprezece ani, s'au suit la Ierusalim, după obiceiul praznicului.

⁴²When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast,

⁴³Apoi, dupăce au trecut zilele praznicului, pe cînd se întorceau acasă, băiatul Isus a rămas în Ierusalim. Părinţii Lui n'au băgat de seamă lucrul acesta.

⁴³and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn’t know it,

⁴⁴Au crezut că este cu tovarăşii lor de călătorie, şi au mers cale de o zi, şi L-au căutat printre rudele şi cunoscuţii lor.

⁴⁴but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey, and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances.

⁴⁵Dar nu L-au găsit, şi s'au întors la Ierusalim să -L caute.

⁴⁵When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.

⁴⁶După trei zile, L-au găsit în Templu, şezînd în mijlocul învăţătorilor, ascultîndu -i şi punîndu-le întrebări.

⁴⁶It happened after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions.

⁴⁷Toţi cari -L auzeau, rămîneau uimiţi de priceperea şi răspunsurile Lui.

⁴⁷All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

⁴⁸Cînd L-au văzut părinţii Lui, au rămas înmărmuriţi; şi mama Lui I -a zis: ,,Fiule, pentru ce Te-ai purtat aşa cu noi? Iată că tatăl Tău şi eu Te-am căutat cu îngrijorare.``

⁴⁸When they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you.”

⁴⁹El le -a zis: ,,Dece M'aţi căutat? Oare nu ştiaţi că trebuie să fiu în casa Tatălui Meu?``

⁴⁹He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

⁵⁰Dar ei n'au înţeles spusele Lui.

⁵⁰They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them.

⁵¹Apoi S'a pogorît împreună cu ei, a venit la Nazaret, şi le era supus. Mamă-Sa păstra toate cuvintele acestea în inima ei.

⁵¹And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

⁵²Şi Isus creştea în înţelepciune, în statură, şi era tot mai plăcut înaintea lui Dumnezeu şi înaintea oamenilor.

⁵²And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
