¹Vai de mine! Căci parcă sînt la strîngerea poamelor, şi la strîngerea bobiţelor după culesul strugurilor: nu mai este niciun strugure de mîncare, nici cea dintîi smochină, dorită de sufletul meu!

¹Misery is mine! Indeed, I am like one who gathers the summer fruits, as gleanings of the vineyard: There is no cluster of grapes to eat. My soul desires to eat the early fig.

²S'a dus omul de bine din ţară, şi nu mai este niciun om cinstit printre oameni; toţi stau la pîndă ca să verse sînge, fiecare întinde o cursă fratelui său.

²The godly man has perished out of the earth, and there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; every man hunts his brother with a net.

³Mînile lor sînt îndreptate să facă rău: cîrmuitorul cere daruri, judecătorul cere plată, cel mare îşi arată pe faţă ce doreşte cu lăcomie, şi astfel merg mînă'n mînă.

³Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe; and the powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together.

⁴Cel mai bun dintre ei este ca un mărăcine, cel mai cinstit este mai rău decît un tufiş de spini. Ziua vestită de toţi proorocii Tăi, pedeapsa Ta se apropie! Atunci va fi uluiala lor.

⁴The best of them is like a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come; now is the time of their confusion.

⁵Nu crede pe un prieten, nu te încrede în ruda cea mai de aproape; păzeşte-ţi uşa gurii de cea care îţi stă în braţe!

⁵Don’t trust in a neighbor. Don’t put confidence in a friend. With the woman lying in your embrace, be careful of the words of your mouth!

⁶Căci fiul batjocoreşte pe tatăl, fata se scoală împotriva mamei ei, nora împotriva soacrei sale; vrăjmaşii omului sînt cei din casa lui! -

⁶For the son dishonors the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.

⁷Eu însă voi privi spre Domnul, îmi voi pune nădejdea în Dumnezeul mîntuirii mele, Dumnezeul meu mă va asculta.

⁷But as for me, I will look to Yahweh. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.

⁸Nu te bucura de mine, vrăjmaşă, căci chiar dacă am căzut, mă voi scula iarăş, chiar dacă stau în întunerec, totuş Domnul este Lumina mea!

⁸Don’t rejoice against me, my enemy. When I fall, I will arise. When I sit in darkness, Yahweh will be a light to me.

⁹Voi suferi mînia Domnului, căci am păcătuit împotriva Lui, -pînă ce El îmi va apăra pricina şi-mi va face dreptate; El mă va scoate la lumină, şi voi privi dreptatea Lui.

⁹I will bear the indignation of Yahweh, because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my case, and executes judgment for me. He will bring me forth to the light. I will see his righteousness.

¹⁰Cînd va vedea vrăjmaşa mea lucrul acesta, va fi acoperită de ruşine, ea, care-mi zicea: ,,Unde este Domnul, Dumnezeul tău?`` Ochii mei îşi vor vedea dorinţa împlinită faţă de ea. Atunci ea va fi călcată în picioare ca noroiul de pe uliţă.

¹⁰Then my enemy will see it, and shame will cover her who said to me, where is Yahweh your God? Then my enemy will see me and will cover her shame. Now she will be trodden down like the mire of the streets.

¹¹În ziua, cînd îţi vor zidi iarăş zidurile, în ziua aceea ţi se vor lărgi hotarele.

¹¹A day to build your walls— In that day, he will extend your boundary.

¹²În ziua aceea, vor veni la tine, din Asiria pînă în Egipt, din Egipt pînă la rîul, dela o mare la alta, şi dela un munte la altul.

¹²In that day they will come to you from Assyria and the cities of Egypt, and from Egypt even to the River, and from sea to sea, and mountain to mountain.

¹³Dar mai întîi ţara va fi pustiită din pricina locuitorilor ei, în urma faptelor lor rele.

¹³Yet the land will be desolate because of those who dwell therein, for the fruit of their doings.

¹⁴Paşte-Ţi poporul cu toiagul Tău, paşte turma moştenirii Tale, care locuieşte singură în pădurea din mijlocul Carmelului; ca să pască pe Basan şi în Galaad, ca în zilele de altă dată.`` -

¹⁴Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your heritage, who dwell by themselves in a forest, in the midst of fertile pasture land, let them feed; in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.

¹⁵,,Îţi voi arăta lucruri minunate, -zice Domnul, ca în ziua cînd ai ieşit din ţara Egiptului.`` -

¹⁵“As in the days of your coming forth out of the land of Egypt, I will show them marvelous things.”

¹⁶Neamurile vor vedea lucrul acesta, şi se vor ruşina, cu toată puterea lor; vor pune mîna la gură, şi îşi vor astupa urechile.

¹⁶The nations will see and be ashamed of all their might. They will lay their hand on their mouth. Their ears will be deaf.

¹⁷Voi linge pulberea, ca şarpele; vor ieşi tremurînd ca tîrîtoarele pămîntului, afară din cetăţuile lor, vor veni pline de frică înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru, şi se vor teme de Tine.

¹⁷They will lick the dust like a serpent. Like crawling things of the earth they shall come trembling out of their dens. They will come with fear to Yahweh our God, and will be afraid because of you.

¹⁸Care Dumnezeu este ca Tine, care ierţi nelegiuirea, şi treci cu vedera păcatele rămăşiţei moştenirii Tale? El nu-Şi ţine mînia pe vecie, ci Îi place îndurarea!

¹⁸Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage? He doesn’t retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness.

¹⁹El va avea iarăş milă de noi, va călca în picioare nelegiuirile noastre, şi vei arunca în fundul mării toate păcatele lor.

¹⁹He will again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities under foot; and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

²⁰Vei da cu credincioşie lui Iacov, şi vei ţinea cu îndurare faţă de Avraam, ce ai jurat părinţilor noştri în zilele de odinioară.`

²⁰You will give truth to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.
