¹Un nume bun este mai de dorit decît o bogăţie mare, şi a fi iubit preţuieşte mai mult decît argintul şi aurul. -

¹A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.

²Bogatul şi săracul se întîlnesc: Domnul i -a făcut şi pe unul şi pe altul. -

²The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.

³Omul chibzuit vede nenorocirea şi se ascunde, dar cei proşti merg înainte şi sînt pedepsiţi. -

³A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.

⁴Răsplata smereniei, a fricii de Domnul, este bogăţia, slava şi viaţa. -

⁴The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life.

⁵Spini şi curse sînt pe calea omului stricat: cel ce-şi păzeşte sufletul se depărtează de ele. -

⁵Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.

⁶Învaţă pe copil calea pe care trebuie s'o urmeze, şi cînd va îmbătrîni, nu se va abate dela ea. -

⁶Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

⁷Bogatul stăpîneşte peste cei săraci, şi cel ce ia cu împrumut, este robul celui ce -i dă cu împrumut. -

⁷The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.

⁸Cine samănă nelegiuire, nelegiuire va secera, şi nuiaua nelegiuirii lui este gata. -

⁸He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

⁹Omul milostiv va fi binecuvîntat, pentrucă dă săracului din pînea lui.

⁹He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.

¹⁰Izgoneşte pe batjocoritor, şi cearta se va sfîrşi, neînţelegerile şi ocările vor înceta. -

¹⁰Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.

¹¹Cine iubeşte curăţia inimii, şi are bunăvoinţa pe buze, este prieten cu împăratul. -

¹¹He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king’s friend.

¹²Ochii Domnului păzesc pe cel ce are ştiinţă, dar înfruntă cuvintele celui stricat.

¹²The eyes of Yahweh watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.

¹³Leneşul zice: ,,Afară este un leu, care m'ar putea ucide pe uliţă!`` -

¹³The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”

¹⁴Gura curvelor este o groapă adîncă; pe cine vrea să -l pedepsească Domnul, acela cade în ea. -

¹⁴The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Yahweh’s wrath will fall into it.

¹⁵Nebunia este lipită de inima copilului, dar nuiaua certării o va deslipi de el. -

¹⁵Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

¹⁶Cine asupreşte pe sărac ca să-şi mărească avuţia, va trebui să dea şi el altuia mai bogat şi va duce lipsă. -

¹⁶Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.

¹⁷Pleacă-ţi urechea, şi ascultă cuvintele înţelepţilor, şi ia învăţătura mea în inimă.

¹⁷Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.

¹⁸Căci este bine să le păstrezi înlăuntrul tău, şi să-ţi fie toate de odată pe buze. -

¹⁸For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.

¹⁹Pentru ca să-ţi pui încrederea în Domnul, vreau să te învăţ eu astăzi, da, pe tine.

¹⁹That your trust may be in Yahweh, I teach you today, even you.

²⁰N'am aşternut eu oare în scris pentru tine sfaturi şi cugetări,

²⁰Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,

²¹ca să te învăţ lucruri temeinice, cuvinte adevărate, ca să răspunzi cu vorbe adevărate celui ce te trimete? -

²¹To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?

²²Nu despuia pe sărac, pentrucă este sărac, şi nu asupri pe nenorocitul care stă la poartă!

²²Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;

²³Căci Domnul le va apăra pricina lor, şi va despuia viaţa celor ce -i despoaie. -

²³for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.

²⁴Nu te împrieteni cu omul mînios, şi nu te însoţi cu omul iute la mînie,

²⁴Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger:

²⁵ca nu cumva să te deprinzi cu cărările lui, şi să-ţi ajungă o cursă pentru suflet. -

²⁵lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.

²⁶Nu fi printre cei ce pun chezăşii, printre cei ce dau zălog pentru datorii.

²⁶Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.

²⁷Căci dacă n'ai cu ce să plăteşti, pentruce ai voi să ţi se ia patul de supt tine?

²⁷If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?

²⁸Nu muta hotarul cel vechi, pe care l-au aşezat părinţii tăi. -

²⁸Don’t move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.

²⁹Dacă vezi un om iscusit în lucrul lui, acela poate sta lîngă împăraţi, nu lîngă oamenii de rînd.

²⁹Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
