¹Inima împăratului este ca un rîu de apă în mîna Domnului, pe care îl îndreaptă încotro vrea. -

¹The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.

²Omul socoteşte că toate căile lui sînt fără prihană, dar Cel ce cercetează inimile este Domnul. -

²Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts.

³A face dreptate şi judecată, este mai plăcut Domnului decît jertfele. -

³To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice.

⁴Privirile trufaşe şi inima îngîmfată, această candelă a celor răi, nu este decît păcat. -

⁴A high look, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

⁵Planurile omului harnic nu duc de cît la belşug, dar celce lucrează cu grabă n'ajunge de cît la lipsă. -

⁵The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.

⁶Comorile cîştigate cu o limbă mincinoasă sînt o deşertăciune care fuge, şi ele duc la moarte. -

⁶Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.

⁷Silnicia celor răi îi mătură, pentrucă nu vor să facă ce este drept. -

⁷The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is right.

⁸Cel vinovat merge pe căi sucite, dar cel nevinovat face ce este bine.

⁸The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.

⁹Mai bine să locuieşti într'un colţ pe acoperiş, decît cu o nevastă gîlcevitoare într'o casă mare. -

⁹It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman.

¹⁰Sufletul celui rău doreşte răul, semenul lui n'are nici o trecere înaintea lui. -

¹⁰The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.

¹¹Cînd este pedepsit batjocoritorul, prostul se face înţelept: şi cînd se dă învăţătură celui înţelept, el capătă ştiinţa. -

¹¹When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.

¹²Cel neprihănit se uită la casa celui rău, şi vede ce repede sînt aruncaţi cei răi în nenorocire. -

¹²The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin.

¹³Cine îşi astupă urechea la strigătul săracului, nici el nu va căpăta răspuns, cînd va striga. -

¹³Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.

¹⁴Un dar făcut în taină potoleşte mînia, şi o mită dată pe ascuns potoleşte cea mai puternică mînie. -

¹⁴A gift in secret pacifies anger; and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.

¹⁵Este o bucurie pentru cel neprihănit să facă ce este bine, dar pentru ceice fac răul este o groază. -

¹⁵It is joy to the righteous to do justice; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

¹⁶Omul care se abate dela calea înţelepciunii, se va odihni în adunarea celor morţi. -

¹⁶The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the dead.

¹⁷Cine iubeşte petrecerile va duce lipsă, şi cine iubeşte vinul şi untdelemnul dresurilor nu se îmbogăţeşte. -

¹⁷He who loves pleasure shall be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil shall not be rich.

¹⁸Cel rău slujeşte ca preţ de răscumpărare pentru cel neprihănit, şi cel stricat, pentru oamenii fără prihană. -

²⁰Comori de preţ şi untdedelemn sînt în locuinţa celui înţelept, dar omul fără minte le risipeşte. -

²¹Cine urmăreşte neprihănirea şi bunătatea, găseşte viaţă, neprihănire şi slavă. -

²²Înţeleptul cucereşte cetatea vitejilor, şi doboară puterea în care se încredeau. -

²²A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and brings down the strength of its confidence.

²³Cine îşi păzeşte gura şi limba, îşi scuteşte sufletul de multe necazuri. -

²³Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

²⁴Cel mîndru şi trufaş se cheamă batjocoritor: el lucrează cu aprinderea îngîmfării.

²⁴The proud and haughty man, “scoffer” is his name; he works in the arrogance of pride.

²⁵Poftele leneşului îl omoară, pentrucă nu vrea să lucreze cu mînile. -

²⁵The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.

²⁶Toată ziua o duce numai în pofte: dar cel neprihănit dă fără zgîrcenie. -

²⁶There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and don’t withhold.

²⁷Jertfa celor răi este o scîrbă înaintea Domnului, cu cît mai mult cînd o aduc cu gînduri nelegiuite. -

²⁷The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!

²⁸Martorul mincinos va pieri, dar omul care ascultă bine va vorbi totdeauna cu izbîndă. -

²⁸A false witness will perish, and a man who listens speaks to eternity.

²⁹Cel rău ia o înfăţişare neruşinată, dar omul fără prihană îşi îmbunătăţeşte calea. -

²⁹A wicked man hardens his face; but as for the upright, he establishes his ways.

³⁰Nici înţelepciunea, nici priceperea, nici sfatul n'ajută împotriva Domnului. -

³⁰There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Yahweh.

³¹Calul este pregătit pentru ziua bătăliei, dar biruinţa este a Domnului. -

³¹The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with Yahweh.
