¹Nu pismui pe oamenii cei răi, şi nu dori să fii cu ei;

¹Don’t be envious of evil men; neither desire to be with them:

²căci inima lor se gîndeşte la prăpăd, şi buzele lor vorbesc nelegiuiri. -

²for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about mischief.

³Prin înţelepciune se înalţă o casă, şi prin pricepere se întăreşte;

³Through wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established;

⁴prin ştiinţă se umplu cămările ei de toate bunătăţile de preţ şi plăcute.

⁴by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.

⁵Un om înţelept este plin de putere, şi cel priceput îşi oţeleşte vlaga.

⁵A wise man has great power; and a knowledgeable man increases strength;

⁶Căci prin măsuri chibzuite cîştigi bătălia, şi prin marele număr al sfetnicilor ai biruinţa. -

⁶for by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors.

⁷Înţelepciunea este prea înaltă pentru cel nebun: el nu va deschide gura la judecată. -

⁷Wisdom is too high for a fool: he doesn’t open his mouth in the gate.

⁸Cine se gîndeşte să facă rău, se cheamă un om plin de răutate. -

⁸One who plots to do evil will be called a schemer.

⁹Gîndul celui nebun nu este decît păcat, şi batjocoritorul este o scîrbă pentru oameni. -

⁹The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.

¹⁰Dacă slăbeşti în ziua necazului, mică îţi este puterea. -

¹⁰If you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small.

¹¹Izbăveşte pe cei tîrîţi la moarte, şi scapă pe ceice sînt aproape să fie junghiaţi. -

¹¹Rescue those who are being led away to death! Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter!

¹²Dacă zici: ,,Ah! n'am ştiut!``... Crezi că nu vede Celce cîntăreşte inimile şi Celce veghează asupra sufletului tău? Şi nu va răsplăti El fiecăruia după faptele lui? -

¹²If you say, “Behold, we didn’t know this”; doesn’t he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn’t he know it? Shall he not render to every man according to his work?

¹³Fiule, mănîncă miere, căci este bună, şi fagurul de miere este dulce pentru cerul gurii tale.

¹³My son, eat honey, for it is good; the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste:

¹⁴Tot aşa, şi înţelepciunea este bună pentru sufletul tău: dacă o vei găsi, ai un viitor, şi nu ţi se va tăia nădejdea. -

¹⁴so you shall know wisdom to be to your soul; if you have found it, then there will be a reward, your hope will not be cut off.

¹⁵Nu întinde curse, nelegiuitule, la locuinţa celui neprihănit, şi nu -i turbura odihna.

¹⁵Don’t lay in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Don’t destroy his resting place:

¹⁶Căci cel neprihănit de şapte ori cade, şi se ridică, dar cei răi se prăbuşesc în nenorocire.

¹⁶for a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

¹⁷Nu te bucura de căderea vrăjmaşului tău, şi să nu ţi se veselească inima cînd se poticneşte el,

¹⁷Don’t rejoice when your enemy falls. Don’t let your heart be glad when he is overthrown;

¹⁸ca nu cumva Domnul să vadă, să nu -I placă, şi să-Şi întoarcă mînia dela el. -

¹⁸lest Yahweh see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

¹⁹Nu te mînia din pricina celor ce fac rău, şi nu pizmui pe cei răi!

¹⁹Don’t fret yourself because of evildoers; neither be envious of the wicked:

²⁰Căci cel ce face răul n'are niciun viitor, şi lumina celor răi se stinge. -

²⁰for there will be no reward to the evil man; and the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out.

²¹Fiule, teme-te de Domnul şi de împăratul; şi să nu te amesteci cu cei neastîmpăraţi!

²¹My son, fear Yahweh and the king. Don’t join those who are rebellious:

²²Căci deodată le va veni pieirea, şi cine poate şti sfîrşitul amîndorora! -

²²for their calamity will rise suddenly; the destruction from them both—who knows?

²³Iată ce mai spun înţelepţii: ,,Nu este bine să ai în vedere faţa oamenilor în judecăţi.`` -

²³These also are sayings of the wise. To show partiality in judgment is not good.

²⁴Pe cine zice celui rău: ,,Tu eşti bun!`` îl blastămă popoarele, şi -l urăsc neamurile.

²⁴He who says to the wicked, “You are righteous”; peoples shall curse him, and nations shall abhor him—

²⁵Dar celor ce judecă drept le merge bine, şi o mare binecuvîntare vine peste ei. -

²⁵but it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and a rich blessing will come on them.

²⁶Un răspuns bun este ca un sărut pe buze.

²⁶An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

²⁷Vezi-ţi întîi de treburi afară, îngrijeşte de lucrul cîmpului, şi apoi apucă-te să-ţi zideşti casa. -

²⁷Prepare your work outside, and get your fields ready. Afterwards, build your house.

²⁸Nu vorbi în chip uşuratic împotriva aproapelui tău; ori ai vrea să înşeli cu buzele tale? -

²⁸Don’t be a witness against your neighbor without cause. Don’t deceive with your lips.

²⁹Nu zice: ,,Cum mi -a făcut el aşa am să -i fac şi eu, îi vor răsplăti după faptele lui!`` -

²⁹Don’t say, “I will do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.”

³⁰Am trecut pe lîngă ogorul unui leneş, şi pe lîngă via unui om fără minte.

³⁰I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

³¹Şi era numai spini, acoperit de mărăcini, şi zidul de piatră era prăbuşit.

³¹Behold, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

³²M'am uitat bine şi cu luare aminte, şi am tras învăţătură din ce am văzut.

³²Then I saw, and considered well. I saw, and received instruction:

³³,,Să mai dorm puţin, să mai aţipesc puţin, să mai încrucişez mînile puţin ca să mă odihnesc!``...

³³a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep;

³⁴Şi sărăcia vine peste tine pe neaşteptate, ca un hoţ, şi lipsa, ca un om înarmat.

³⁴so your poverty will come as a robber, and your want as an armed man.
