²Slava lui Dumnezeu stă în ascunderea lucrurilor, dar slava împăraţilor stă în cercetarea lucrurilor. -

³Înălţimea cerurilor, adîncimea pămîntului, şi inima împăraţilor sînt nepătrunse. -

³As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.

⁴Scoate zgura din argint, şi argintarul va face din el un vas ales.

⁴Take away the dross from the silver, and material comes out for the refiner;

⁵Scoate şi pe cel rău dinaintea împăratului, şi scaunul lui de domnie se va întări prin neprihănire. -

⁵Take away the wicked from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.

⁶Nu te făli înaintea împăratului, şi nu lua locul celor mari;

⁶Don’t exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men;

⁷căci este mai bine să ţi se zică: ,,Suie-te mai sus!`` decît să fii pogorît înaintea voivodului pe care ţi -l văd ochii. -

⁷for it is better that it be said to you, “Come up here,” than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen.

⁸Nu te grăbi să te iei la ceartă, ca nu cumva la urmă să nu ştii ce să faci, cînd te va lua la ocări aproapele tău. -

⁸Don’t be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?

⁹Apără-ţi pricina împotriva aproapelui tău, dar nu da pe faţă taina altuia,

⁹Debate your case with your neighbor, and don’t betray the confidence of another;

¹⁰ca nu cumva, aflînd -o cineva, să te umple de ruşine, şi să-ţi iasă nume rău care să nu se mai şteargă. -

¹⁰lest one who hears it put you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart.

¹¹Un cuvînt spus la vremea potrivită, este ca nişte mere de aur într'un coşuleţ de argint. -

¹¹A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

¹²Ca o verigă de aur şi o podoabă de aur curat, aşa este înţeleptul care mustră, pentru o ureche ascultătoare. -

¹²As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.

¹³Ca răcoreala zăpezii pe vremea secerişului, aşa este un sol credincios pentru cel ce -l trimete: el înviorează sufletul stăpînului său.

¹³As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him; for he refreshes the soul of his masters.

¹⁴Ca norii şi vîntul fără ploaie, aşa este un om care se laudă pe nedrept cu dărniciile lui. -

¹⁴As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.

¹⁵Prin răbdare se înduplecă un voivod, şi o limbă dulce poate zdrobi oase.

¹⁵By patience a ruler is persuaded. A soft tongue breaks the bone.

¹⁶Dacă dai peste miere, nu mînca decît atît cît îţi ajunge, ca să nu ţi se scîrbească şi s'o verşi din gură. -

¹⁶Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you eat too much, and vomit it.

¹⁷Calcă rar în casa aproapelui tău, ca să nu se sature de tine şi să te urască. -

¹⁷Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor’s house, lest he be weary of you, and hate you.

¹⁸Ca un buzdugan, ca o sabie şi ca o săgeată ascuţită, aşa este un om care face o mărturisire mincinoasă împotriva aproapelui său. -

¹⁸A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.

¹⁹Ca un dinte stricat şi ca un picior care şchioapătează, aşa este încrederea într'un stricat la ziua necazului. -

¹⁹Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth, or a lame foot.

²⁰Ca unul care îşi scoate haina pe o zi rece, sau varsă oţet pe silitră, aşa este cine cîntă cîntece unei inimi în nenorocire. -

²⁰As one who takes away a garment in cold weather, or vinegar on soda, so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.

²¹If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink:

²²Căci făcînd aşa, aduni cărbuni aprinşi pe capul lui, şi Domnul îţi va răsplăti. -

²²for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and Yahweh will reward you.

²³Vîntul de miazănoapte aduce ploaia, şi limba clevetitoare aduce o faţă mîhnită. -

²³The north wind brings forth rain: so a backbiting tongue brings an angry face.

²⁴Mai bine să locuieşti într'un colţ pe acoperiş, decît să locuieşti într'o casă mare cu o nevastă gîlcevitoare. -

²⁴It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman.

²⁵Ca apa proaspătă pentru un om obosit, aşa este o veste bună venită dintr'o ţară depărtată. -

²⁵Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

²⁶Ca o fîntînă turbure şi ca un izvor stricat, aşa este cel neprihănit care se clatină înaintea celui rău. -

²⁶Like a muddied spring, and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
