1Fiule, nu uita învăţăturile mele, şi păstrează în inima ta sfaturile mele!
1My son, don’t forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments:
2Căci ele îţi vor lungi zilele şi anii vieţii tale, şi-ţi vor aduce multă pace.
2for length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they add to you.
3Să nu te părăsească bunătatea şi credincioşia: leagă-ţi-le la gît, scrie-le pe tăbliţa inimii tale.
3Don’t let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4Şi astfel vei căpăta trecere şi minte sănătoasă, înaintea lui Dumnezeu şi înaintea oamenilor.
4So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5Încrede-te în Domnul din toată inima ta, şi nu te bizui pe înţelepciunea ta!
5Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.
6Recunoaşte -L în toate căile tale, şi El îţi va netezi cărările.
6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
7Nu te socoti singur înţelept; teme-te de Domnul, şi abate-te de la rău!
7Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil.
8Aceasta va aduce sănătate trupului tău, şi răcorire oaselor tale.
8It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones.
9Cinsteşte pe Domnul cu averile tale, şi cu cele dintîi roade din tot venitul tău:
9Honor Yahweh with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase:
10căci atunci grînarele îţi vor fi pline de belşug, şi teascurile tale vor geme de must.
10so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.
11Fiule, nu dispreţui mustrarea Domnului, şi nu te mîhni de pedepsele Lui.
11My son, don’t despise Yahweh’s discipline, neither be weary of his reproof:
12Căci Domnul mustră pe cine iubeşte, ca un părinte pe copilul pe care -l iubeşte!
12for whom Yahweh loves, he reproves; even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.
13Ferice de omul care găseşte înţelepciunea, şi de omul care capătă pricepere!
13Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding.
14Căci cîştigul pe care -l aduce ea este mai bun decît al argintului, şi venitul adus de ea este mai de preţ decît aurul;
14For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold.
15ea este mai de preţ decît mărgăritarele, şi toate comorile tale nu se pot asemui cu ea.
15She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.
16În dreapta ei este o viaţă lungă; în stînga ei, bogăţie şi slavă.
16Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.
17Căile ei sînt nişte căi plăcute, şi toate cărările ei sînt nişte cărări pacinice.
17Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace.
18Ea este un pom de viaţă pentru cei ce o apucă, şi cei ce o au sînt fericiţi.
18She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her. Happy is everyone who retains her.
19Prin înţelepciune a întemeiat Domnul pămîntul, şi prin pricepere a întărit El cerurile;
19By wisdom Yahweh founded the earth. By understanding, he established the heavens.
20prin ştiinţa Lui s'au deschis Adîncurile, şi strecoară norii roua.
20By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.
21Fiule, să nu se depărteze învăţăturile acestea de ochii tăi: păstrează înţelepciunea şi chibzuinţa!
21My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion:
22Căci ele vor fi viaţa sufletului tău, şi podoaba gîtului tău.
22so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck.
23Atunci vei merge cu încredere pe drumul tău, şi piciorul nu ţi se va poticni.
23Then you shall walk in your way securely. Your foot won’t stumble.
24Cînd te vei culca, vei fi fără teamă, şi cînd vei dormi, somnul îţi va fi dulce.
24When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet.
25Nu te teme nici de spaimă năpraznică, nici de o năvălire din partea celor răi;
25Don’t be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes:
26căci Domnul va fi nădejdea ta, şi El îţi va păzi piciorul de cădere.
26for Yahweh will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken.
27Nu opri o binefacere celui ce are nevoie de ea, cînd poţi s'o faci.
27Don’t withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
28Nu zice aproapelui tău: ,,Du-te şi vino iarăş; îţi voi da mîne!`` cînd ai de unde să dai.
28Don’t say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you,” when you have it by you.
29Nu gîndi rău împotriva aproapelui tău, cînd locuieşte liniştit lîngă tine.
29Don’t devise evil against your neighbor, since he dwells securely by you.
30Nu te certa fără pricină cu cineva, cînd nu ţi -a făcut nici un rău.
30Don’t strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm.
31Nu pizmui pe omul asupritor, şi nu alege niciuna din căile lui!
31Don’t envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways.
32Căci Domnul urăşte pe oamenii stricaţi, dar este prieten cu cei fără prihană.
32For the perverse is an abomination to Yahweh, but his friendship is with the upright.
33Blestemul Domnului este în casa celui rău, dar locuinţa celor neprihăniţi o binecuvintează.
33Yahweh’s curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the habitation of the righteous.
34Cînd are a face cu cei batjocoritori, Îşi bate joc de ei, dar celor smeriţi le dă har.
34Surely he mocks the mockers, but he gives grace to the humble.
35Înţelepţii vor moşteni slava, dar partea celor nebuni este ruşinea.
35The wise will inherit glory, but shame will be the promotion of fools.
