¹Fiule, dacă vei primi cuvintele mele, dacă vei păstra cu tine învăţăturile mele,

¹My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you;

²dacă vei lua aminte la înţelepciune, şi dacă-ţi vei pleca inima la pricepere;

²So as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;

³dacă vei cere înţelepciune, şi dacă te vei ruga pentru pricepere,

³Yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding;

⁴dacă o vei căuta ca argintul, şi vei umbla după ea ca după o comoară,

⁴If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures:

⁵atunci vei înţelege frica de Domnul, şi vei găsi cunoştinţa lui Dumnezeu.

⁵then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and find the knowledge of God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” .

⁶Căci Domnul dă înţelepciune; din gura Lui iese cunoştinţă şi pricepere.

⁶For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

⁷El dă izbîndă celor fără prihană, dă un scut celor ce umblă în nevinovăţie.

⁷He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity;

⁸Ocroteşte cărările neprihănirii, şi păzeşte calea credincioşilor Lui.

⁸that he may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of his saints.

⁹Atunci vei înţelege dreptatea, judecata, nepărtinirea, toate căile cari duc la bine.

⁹Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.

¹⁰Căci înţelepciunea va veni în inima ta, şi cunoştinţa va fi desfătarea sufletului tău;

¹⁰For wisdom will enter into your heart. Knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.

¹¹chibzuinţa va veghea asupra ta, priceperea te va păzi,

¹¹Discretion will watch over you. Understanding will keep you,

¹²ca să te scape de calea cea rea, de omul care ţine cuvîntări stricate;

¹²to deliver you from the way of evil, from the men who speak perverse things;

¹³de ceice părăsesc cărările adevărate, ca să umble pe drumuri întunecoase;

¹³who forsake the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

¹⁴cari se bucură să facă răul, şi îşi pun plăcerea în răutate,

¹⁴who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the perverseness of evil;

¹⁵cari umblă pe cărări strîmbe, şi apucă pe drumuri sucite;

¹⁵who are crooked in their ways, and wayward in their paths:

¹⁶ca să te scape şi de nevasta altuia, de străina, care întrebuinţează vorbe ademenitoare,

¹⁶To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words;

¹⁷care părăseşte pe bărbatul tinereţei ei, şi uită legămîntul Dumnezeului ei.

¹⁷who forsakes the friend of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God:

¹⁸Căci casa ei pogoară la moarte, şi drumul ei duce la cei morţi:

¹⁸for her house leads down to death, her paths to the dead.

¹⁹niciunul care se duce la ea nu se mai întoarce, şi nu mai găseşte cărările vieţii.

¹⁹None who go to her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life:

²⁰De aceea, tu să umbli pe calea oamenilor de bine, şi să ţii cărările celor neprihăniţi!

²⁰that you may walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

²¹Căci oamenii fără prihană vor locui ţara, şi oamenii neîntinaţi vor rămînea în ea;

²¹For the upright will dwell in the land. The perfect will remain in it.

²²dar cei răi vor fi nimiciţi din ţară, şi cei necredincioşi vor fi smulşi din ea.

²²But the wicked will be cut off from the land. The treacherous will be rooted out of it.
