1Ale o časoch a o dobách nepotrebujete, bratia, aby sa vám písalo.
1And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you,
2Lebo sami dôkladne viete, že deň Pánov prijde tak ako zlodej vnoci.
2for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come,
3Lebo keď budú hovoriť: Pokoj a bezpečnosť, vtedy náhle prijde na nich zahynutie ako bolesť na tehotnú ženu, a neujdú.
3for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail [doth] her who is with child, and they shall not escape;
4Ale vy, bratia, nie ste vo tme, aby vás ten deň zachvátil ako zlodej.
4and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief;
5Lebo vy všetci ste synmi svetla a synmi dňa. Nie sme synmi noci ani tmy.
5all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness,
6A tak tedy nespime jako ostatní, ale bdejme a buďme triezvi.
6so, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober,
7Lebo tí, ktorí spia, vnoci spia, a ktorí sa opíjajú, sú vnoci opilí.
7for those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken,
8Ale my súc synmi dňa buďme triezvi oblečúc si pancier viery a lásky a vezmúc za prilbu nádej spasenia,
8and we, being of the day — let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and an helmet — a hope of salvation,
9lebo vás nepostavil Bôh cieľom hnevu, ale aby sme nadobudli spasenia skrze nášho Pána Ježiša Krista,
9because God did not appoint us to anger, but to the acquiring of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10ktorý zomrel za nás, aby sme, či už bdejeme či spíme, spolu s ním žili.
10who did die for us, that whether we wake — whether we sleep — together with him we may live;
11Preto sa napomínajte navzájom a vzdelávajte jeden druhého, jako aj robíte.
11wherefore, comfort ye one another, and build ye up, one the one, as also ye do.
12Ale vás žiadame, bratia, aby ste znali tých, ktorí pracujú medzi vami a sú vašimi predstavenými v Pánovi a napomínajú vás,
12And we ask you, brethren, to know those labouring among you, and leading you in the Lord, and admonishing you,
13a aby ste ich preveľmi milovali pre ich dielo. Majte pokoj medzi sebou!
13and to esteem them very abundantly in love, because of their work; be at peace among yourselves;
14A prosíme vás, bratia, napomínajte neriadnych, posmeľujte malomyseľných, ujímajte sa slabých a buďte zhovievaví ku všetkým.
14and we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all;
15Hľaďte, aby niekto neoplatil niekomu zlým za zlé, ale sa vždycky žeňte za tým, čo je dobré i pre vás navzájom i pre všetkých.
15see no one evil for evil may render to any one, but always that which is good pursue ye, both to one another and to all;
16Vždycky sa radujte.
16always rejoice ye;
17Neprestajne sa modlite.
17continually pray ye;
18Vo všetkom ďakujte, lebo to je vôľa Božia v Kristu Ježišovi čo do vás.
18in every thing give thanks, for this [is] the will of God in Christ Jesus in regard to you.
19Ducha neuhášajte.
19The Spirit quench not;
20Proroctvami nepohŕdajte.
20prophesyings despise not;
21Všetko zkúšajte; dobré podržte.
21all things prove; that which is good hold fast;
22Každého druhu zlého sa chráňte.
22from all appearance of evil abstain ye;
23A on sám, Bôh pokoja, nech vás ráči celých posvätiť a váš duch nech je zachovaný celý a neporušený i duša i telo bezúhonne, keď prijde náš Pán Ježiš Kristus.
23and the God of the peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved unblameably in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ;
24Verný je ten, ktorý vás volá, ktorý aj učiní.
24stedfast is He who is calling you, who also will do [it].
25Bratia, modlite sa za nás!
25Brethren, pray for us;
26Pozdravujte všetkých bratov svätým bozkom.
26salute all the brethren in an holy kiss;
27Prísahou vás zaväzujem na Pána, aby bol list prečítaný všetkým svätým bratom.
27I charge you [by] the Lord, that the letter be read to all the holy brethren;
28Milosť našeho Pána Ježiša Krista nech je s vami! Ameň.
28the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [is] with you! Amen.
