1Tu odpovedal Cófar Naamatský a riekol:
1And Zophar the Naamathite answereth and saith: —
2Či azda množstvo slov má zostať bez odpovedi? Ale je isté, že muž hojných rtov nebude spravedlivý.
2Is a multitude of words not answered? And is a man of lips justified?
3Tvoje márne reči umlčujú ľudí; posmievaš sa, a niet toho, kto by ťa zahanbil,
3Thy devices make men keep silent, Thou scornest, and none is causing blushing!
4a hovoríš: Moja náuka, je čistá, a vraj som čistý, Bože, v tvojich očiach.
4And thou sayest, `Pure [is] my discourse, And clean I have been in Thine eyes.`
5Ale oj, aby prehovoril Bôh a aby otvoril proti tebe svoje rty!
5And yet, O that God had spoken! And doth open His lips with thee.
6Vtedy by ti oznámil tajomstvá múdrosti, lebo dvakrát toľko si zaslúžil vskutku a vedz, že ti Bôh dáva zabudnúť mnoho z tvojej neprávosti.
6And declare to thee secrets of wisdom, For counsel hath foldings. And know thou that God forgetteth for thee, [Some] of thine iniquity.
7Či azda vystihneš hlbiny bytosti Boha? Či dosiahneš až po dokonalosť Všemohúceho?
7By searching dost thou find out God? Unto perfection find out the Mighty One?
8Tam výšiny nebies - čo učiníš? Hlboké pod peklo - čo poznáš?
8Heights of the heavens! — what dost thou? Deeper than Sheol! — what knowest thou?
9Miera toho dlhšia ako zem a širšia ako more. -
9Longer than earth [is] its measure, And broader than the sea.
10Jestli ta prejde Bôh a zavrie alebo keď svolá shromaždenie na súd, kto mu zabráni?
10If He pass on, and shut up, and assemble, Who then dost reverse it?
11Lebo on zná ničomných ľudí márnych a vidí neprávosť a nepozoroval by?
11For he hath known men of vanity, And He seeth iniquity, And one doth not consider [it]!
12A preto prázdny človek nech nadobudne rozumu, a divoké osľa nech sa preporodí v človeka! .
12And empty man is bold, And the colt of a wild ass man is born.
13Ak ty nastrojíš svoje srdce a rozprestrieš svoje ruky k nemu,
13If thou — thou hast prepared thy heart, And hast spread out unto Him thy hands,
14- jestli je neprávosť v tvojej ruke, vzdiaľ ju od seba a nedopusti, aby v tvojich stánoch prebývala nešľachetnosť -
14If iniquity [is] in thy hand, put it far off, And let not perverseness dwell in thy tents.
15áno, vtedy pozdvihneš svoju tvár bez poškvrny; budeš stáť neochvejne a nebudeš sa báť;
15For then thou liftest up thy face from blemish, And thou hast been firm, and fearest not.
16lebo ty zabudneš na trápenie; budeš naň spomínať ako na vody, ktoré sa pominuly,
16For thou dost forget misery, As waters passed away thou rememberest.
17a tvoj pozemský život nastane jasnejší nad poludnie, a nech by bolo tma, bude jako ráno.
17And above the noon doth age rise, Thou fliest — as the morning thou art.
18A budeš dúfať, lebo bude nádej, a keď poprezeráš príbytok, ľahneš si bezpečne
18And thou hast trusted because their is hope, And searched — in confidence thou liest down,
19a položiac sa budeš ležať v pokoji, a nebude nikoho, kto by poplašil, a mnohí budú hladkať tvoju tvár.
19And thou hast rested, And none is causing trembling, And many have entreated thy face;
20Ale oči bezbožných sa zatmejú, a útočište im zahynie, a ich nádej vydýchnutie duše.
20And the eyes of the wicked are consumed, And refuge hath perished from them, And their hope [is] a breathing out of soul!
